VariousWith Love Vol 2 – Compiled By Miche ... LP
Mr Bongo (UK), 1970s/2023. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $27.99 33.98
Miche's at it again – and he's somehow managed to top the great sound of the first volume in the series – digging deeper into the past, coming up with more soulful numbers overall, then throwing in just the right touch of Brazilian grooves to even things out! As before, there's no unifying label or scene to these tracks – they're just brought together in celebration of a really joyous, positive, uplifting vibe – one possessed by each track alone, but which really steps out strongly as they all resonate together! Titles include "Save The Best For Last" by Alice Cohen & Fun City, "You & Me" by Mark Meadows, "Take To The Sky" by Mixed Generation Enterprize, "I Like What She's Doing" by Billy Boomer, "Straight Forward" by PJ City, "Realize" by Maxwell, "High On You" by Freedom, "Blow My Mind" by The Lost Family, "As" by The Family Tree, "A Luz Que Brilha Meu Viver" by Banda 22, "Misterio Brilhante" by Ze Da Lata, "Then I Reach Satisfaction" by Eleventh Commandment, and "Dame Solamente Amor" by Rogers Mitchell. Elizeth CardosoElizeth Cardoso/Zimbo Trio/Jacob Do Bandolim – Vol 1 ... LP
Museu Da Imagem (Brazil), 1968. Very Good ... $9.99
Brazilian diva Elizeth Cardoso lays down a number of tracks recorded either with the Zimbo Trio, or with Jacob Do Bandolim. The Zimbo tracks have a nice bossa feel, and the titles include "Cidade Vazia", "Abertura", "E Louxo So", "Tem Do", and "Derradeira Primavera". The cuts with Jacob Do Bandolim are a little more samba oriented, but have a nice groove. Those cuts include "Barracao", "Jamais", and "Mulata Assanhada". LP, Vinyl record album
(Later Brazilian pressing – MIS-11906. Cover has some surface wear and aging, unglued bottom seam, lightly bent panels, tiny fray at the opening, and a bit of pen and a small sticker in back.)

Willie RodriguezWillie Rodriguez Swings ... LP
Andale, Mid 60s. New Copy (reissue)... Just Sold Out!
Stunning sounds from Willie Rodriguez – easily one of the hardest, heaviest leaders on the 60s scene in New York! The record is a live one, but has the focus and intensity of Willie's best studio work for Fonseca – red hot grooves that are a fusion of Willie's Puerto Rican roots with some of the best pre-salsa modes of the time – a vibe that's a lot like the Joe Cuba Sextet at their best, with blistering piano and percussion in the rhythms, and some tight trumpet soaring out over the top! There's a few mellower tracks, but most numbers are groovers – and titles include "Gua Guanco #1", "Dolor Y Pena", "La Mulata Mariana", "Dame Un Chance", "El Velorio", "Ruby", and the great "Descarga". Mason WilliamsMason Williams Ear Show ... LP
Warner, 1968. Very Good+ ... $2.99
A wonderfully weird record from the mighty Mason Williams – a set that's filled with lots of cool little surprises at each new twist and turn – yet which also comes across with a really solid, tuneful feel overall! The album's got a bit of folk, a bit of moog, and a bit of kitsch – but has a way of serving it all up with the kind of warmth and wit we love so much in that unique late 60s Warner Brothers moment – the same sort of vibe you might get from Van Dyke Parks or Harpers Bizarre at their best. Some tunes have Mason Williams singing these beautifully poetic lyrics straight, while others evoke the playful feel of his appearances on the Smothers Brothers Show – but things are really balanced throughout, and give the record that sense of discovery we hardly ever find in albums these days. Titles include a new version of "Baroque A Nova" from Mason's first album, the cool electronic "Generatah Oscillatah" instrumental, the groovy "Last Great Waltz", a "One Minute Commercial", and a wild remake of "Cinderella Rockefella" – plus "Saturday Night At The World", "$13 Stella", and "Whistle Hear". LP, Vinyl record album

VariousBollywood Nuggets – A Collection Of Mindblowing Songs From Hindi Films 1958 to 1984 ... LP
Akenaton (Egypt), Late 1950s/1960s/1970s/Early 1980s. New Copy ... $26.99 29.99
A mad mix of sounds from the glory days of Indian cinema – served up in a package that offers up a much broader blend of styles than other Bollywood collections – as it features numbers from the late 50s all the way through the early 80s! Some of the tracks here have a rockish vibe that's great – romping rhythms, organ and guitars, and a sharp vibe that's contrasted by some of the fuller numbers from later years – including a few nuggets from the heyday of Bollywood funk! The whole thing is upbeat and grooving all the way through – with work by Mohammad Rafi, Asha Bhosle, Kishor Kumar, Kamal Hasaan, Geeta Dutt, Lata Mangeshkar, and others – from films that include Ek Phool Char Kante, Sholay, Aazhi, Bhoot Bungla, Intinti Raamayanam, Blackmail, Junglee, and Howrah Bridge. ✨✧ Chet BakerChet Is Back! (French pressing) ... LP
RCA (France), 1962. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of Chet Baker's rarest albums – and a great one! The session was recorded in Rome in 1962, at a time when Chet's star had fallen quite a bit on the American scene, and it features him working with some of the hippest European players at the time – like Rene Thomas on guitar, Bobby Jaspar on tenor and flute, Amadeo Tomassi on piano, and Daniel Humair on drums. The tracks are longer than those on some of Chet's earlier albums – with an angularity that brings out new modes of blowing on some of his solos. Titles include "Blues In The Closet", "Barbados", "Star Eyes", "Pent Up House", and "Ballata In Forma Di Blues". LP, Vinyl record album
(French reissue in a non-gatefold cover, with light wear.)

✨✧ BlotoKwasy I Zasady ... LP
Astigmatic (Poland), 2021. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A record that's nicely lean and focused compared to some of the darker, moodier records from this Polish group – almost as if they've shaken out a few layers in the mix, and focused a bit more on some of the acoustic elements in their lineup! There's still plenty of the deep bass guitar lines that made previous records so bold – handled here by Wuja HZG – and Latarnik plays a range of keyboards that are both acoustic and electric – yet these are often offset by saxophone contributions from OlafSaxx, who himself brings in some keyboards too – almost using them with an understanding of how they balance his instrument. The group's completed by percussion from Cancer G, who brings in some beats as well – on titles that include "Ignorancja", "Umiar", "Chryja", "Hipokryzja", "Farmazon", and "Mitomania". ✨✧ Fabio LibertoriAcqua E Sapone (180 gram pink & white vinyl pressing – with bonus tracks) ... LP
Beat (Italy), 1984. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
An unusual score for an unusual Italian film of the 80s – one that presents outwardly as a bit of a comedy, but which has some darker moments too – all of which come through very nicely in the music by Fabio Libertori! Fabio's definitely in the spirit of the decade with his instrumentation – there's a lot of keyboards and drum machine parts on the record – borrowed from American electro soul, and stripped down a lot more – then balanced with warmer passages that still use electric instrumentation, but with some deeper soundtrack elements. The core theme's almost got some breakdance appeal – the kind of lean cut that was always popular as beats on the street – but the other passages make for a surprisingly complicated soundtrack overall – on titles that include "Tema Di Sandy", "Fuga Di Sandy", "Acqua E Sapone", "Tema Di Enzo", "Primo Servizio Fotografico", and "La Tintoria/Il Vestito". Includes the bonus tracks "La Festa", "Tema Di Sandy (alt)", "C'E", and "La Sfilata Di Sandy (alt)". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Walter WanderleyO Sucesso E Samba ... LP
Odeon (Brazil), 1968. Fair ... Out Of Stock
Great stuff from Walter Wanderley – and a refreshing change from his work on Verve! The record's dated 1968, but we're kind of guessing that the tracks date from earlier years – although we're not sure. Most of the material's as sophisticated as anything Walter was cutting in the US at the time – and there's some great electric guitar playing on the record, which is something you don't normally hear on some of Wanderley's other organ trio albums. Titles include "Chora Tua Tristeza", "Ninho Do Nono", "Teleco-Teco No 2", "O Pato", and "Mulata Assanhada". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Antonio AdolfoViralata ... LP
Artezanal/Far Out (UK), 1979. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Fantastic stuff – and one of the greatest records ever by Brazilian keyboardist Antonio Adolfo! The album was recorded at the end of the 70s, and has a sound that's a lot like the best fusion work by Azymuth – a great mix of jazz and funk, plus more dynamic Brazilian elements – all wrapped together in a way that a rare few hybrids do this well! There's great keyboards right up front in the mix – and the backing has some tight percussion that crackles along and gives the album a heavy bottom and a great groove. The album was originally only issued on the tiny Artezanal label – but it feels like a lost gem from the classic funk years at Fantasy Records – internationally funky, far past just a Brazilian music gem. Titles include the massive break cut "Cascavel", plus other nice tracks like "Viralata", "A Marcha", "Assanhada", "Vermelhinho", and "Brincadeira Em Mi Bemol". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ CharlatansCharlatans (1969) ... LP
Philips, 1969. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A great little relic from the San Francisco scene of the late 60s – the first album released by a group who'd been making some big waves in the city for the past few years, but never hit the fame of some of their contemporaries! The group originally featured Dan Hicks – of Hot Licks fame – who had departed by the time of this recording, yet still left some of his own love of roots elements in their sound. But there's some rougher moments too – sharper guitars, and a bit bolder vocals – alongside other tunes that have a slightly warmer, more nostalgic appeal. Titles include "Time To Get Straight", "High Coin", "Easy When I'm Dead", "When I Go Sailin By", "Wabash Cannonball", and "When The Movies Are Over". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original 60s stereo pressing – a great copy! Cover has a small cutout hole.)

✨✧ VariousSoul Beats Vol 9 – Collection Of Rare Grooves & Break Beats ... LP
Lost & Found, 1970s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Another funky, funky set with a seedy, seedy cover! Once again, the collection of soulful grooves is a much more palatable affair than you'd expect from the cover – with rare tunes from the 70s scene, mostly with a tip of the hat to the breaks & beats crowd! Tracks include "The Cat" by Calvin Owens, "Hangin' Out" by Freddy Scott, "Happy Soul" by Moon People, "Chinese Chicken" by Duke Williams, "I Got Some" bu Billy Garner, "I Can't Make It Without You" by Shawne Jackson, "Anatadakeno Mono" by Yumi Aria and more!
