✨✧ Cinematic OrchestraEvery Day (3LP red vinyl pressing) ... LP
Ninja Tune (UK), 2002. New Copy 3LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
The second album by Cinematic Orchestra – and a Ninja Tune classic! The group lives up to its name here, witth sweeping soundscapes that build slowly and set the mood just so. They seem to be exploring a slightly more jazzy/soulful route this go 'round, and are joined on 2 tracks by soul diva Fontella Bass. Roots Manuva contributes vocals on another number, but his contribution comes off as more of a recitation than a rap, and it works beautifully! The tracks are all fairly lengthy, none clocking in under 6 minutes, evolving and building as they do, our favorites include"All That You Give", "Burnout" and "Everyday" – and other tracks include "Flite", "Evolution" and "Man With The Movie Camera". ✨✧ Cinematic OrchestraMotion ... LP
Ninja Tune (UK), 1999. Near Mint- 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic stuff by one of the few groups whose music is actually as compelling as their name! Apart from the soundtracky vibe you might expect, there's actually a fair bit of real jazz in the mix here – a refreshing change from looped and sampled instrumentation, and an aspect that gives the record incredible depth and soul. The best tracks features solos on soprano sax, electric and acoustic piano, vibes, or trumpet – and the album works great together as a shifting palette of post-Miles, post-Coltrane soundscapes. Titles include "Channel 1 Suite", "Durian", "Night Of the Iguana", "Diabolus", "Kalima", and "Bluebirds". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Levitation OrchestraIllusions & Realities (Japanese edition) ... LP
Gearbox (UK), 2021. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $27.99 34.99
Richly spiritual work from a group of London musicians who combine jazz modes with larger orchestrations – all at a level that's maybe somewhere between earlier projects from Cinematic Orchestra, and some of the LA jazz work of Miguel Atwood Ferguson! But as with so much London music of late, there's a real genre-bending approach going on here – so that the combination of elements and the way they come across is very much the group's own – rising up together in a blend of flute, tenor, guitar, violin, cello, and harp – all led by trumpeter Axel Kaner Lidstrom, who you might know from his work in Cykada. Vocals are by Dilara Aydin Corbett and Plumm – and titles include "Spiral", "Between Shadows", "Life Is Suffering/Send & Receive Love Only", "Child", "Listen To Her", and "Many In Body One In Mind". ✨✧ Ghost Funk OrchestraTrip To The Moon (seaglass vinyl pressing) ... LP
Karma Chief/Colemine, 2024. New Copy Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A really majestic album from this mighty nice group – a set that references older space-themed albums from the postwar years, but which serves up the sound in the best style of the Ghost Funk Orchestra! There's cool use of NASA dialogue between some tracks – and rather than burst out in a countdown of rocket fuel, the music moves slowly, almost dreamily at times – really reveling in laidback funk and fuzz, while also coming across with a slightly cinematic vibe that the group's never had before! A few tracks really rise above the usual, sometimes with really great vocals or jazz solos – and titles include "Casadastra", "Space Walk", "A Solar Wind", "Helios", "Nova", "To The Moon", "Eyes Of Love", and "Infinite Dark". ✨✧ Toshiko Yonekawa, Kiyoshi Yamaya, & Contemporary Sound OrchestraTapestry – Koto & The Occident Hillside ... LP
Columbia/Cinedelic (Italy), 1976. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A deceptively groovy record – one that, like the other two in this hip series, hides some very cool sounds behind a relatively unassuming cover! Toshiko Yonekawa plays the Japanese koto, but the setting here is very different than the spare, folksy mode of earlier koto records – as arranger Kiyoshi Yamaya brings in a hip blend of jazz instrumentation and strings – using keyboards, vibes, guitar, and other instruments to update the sound, and give the whole thing a slinky 70s groove – bridging generations in Japanese music, with some great cinematic funk elements at times – on titles that include "Kariboshikiri Uta", "Tabaruzaka", "Iya No Kohiki Uta", "Takeda No Komori Uta", "Hietsuki Bushi", "Mogami Gawa Funa Uta", and "Aizu Bandai San". ✨✧ Austin PeraltaEndless Planets (with bonus tracks & download) ... LP
Brainfeeder, 2009. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A heady blend of jazz and larger elements – served up by Austin Peralta in a style that's a bit ahead of its time! The music here recalls recent sounds from the London scene, or some of the post-jazz experiments of International Anthem – but Peralta also takes things back to earlier spiritual expressions too – recalling Max Roach with strings, the work of Chris Bowden, and some other favorite spots along the way. The set features some especially great reed work – by Zane Musa on alto and Ben Wendel on tenor and soprano – and there's some nice reworking of core sounds by Strangeloop, and even a guest appearance by the Cinematic Orchestra too! Titles include "The Underwater Mountain Odyssey", "Capricornus", "Lotus Flower", "Ode To Loev", and "Algiers". 2LP version includes four bonus tracks from a BBC session! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousEasy Tempo Volume 11 – The Round Trip ... LP
Easy Tempo (Italy), Late 60s/1970s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A long-overdue entry in this legendary series of compilations – one that taught us an awful lot about funky soundtrack music back in the day, finally back in action after a long hiatus! This time around, the groove has gotten even deeper – as the series has stretched to include some killer sound library material as well – really mixing together all the jazz, funk, and cinematic elements that were in the previous volumes – yet all with the hip Euro-styled groove that we loved in all of those releases too! There's a huge amount of funky nuggets here, but all with a vibe that's very different than 70s work from the US scene – and although we've missed the Easy Tempo series for many years, we're so glad to have them back – as they're still one of the best. Titles include "Take Me To New York" by Brooklyn Bridge Group, "Undertown" by Orchestra Mustang, "First Time Three" by Roberto Pregadio, "Angelus" by Soul's Soul, "African Flute" by Ninety, "Super Cat" by Les Chakachas, "Sunshine Train" by Hugh Bullen, "Un Uomo Che Lavora" by Carlo Cordara E I Waterloo, "Meeting" by Gino Marinaaci, and "Guida Sicura" by Enzo Scoppa. ✨✧ VariousEasy Tempo Experience 3 – The Third Dimension ... LP
Temposphere/Easy Tempo (Italy), 2000. New Copy 3LP ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic soundtrack remix madness! The work of some of the greatest Italian composers of the late 60s and early 70s is updated for the modern dancefloor – and this set may well be the best of Easy Tempo's "Experience" series! Tracks include Piero Umiliani's "L'Uomo E La Citta" remixed by Raphael Sebbag, Umiliani's "Lady Magnolia" remixed by Kid Loco, Stefano Torrossi's "Walking In The Dark" remixed by DJ Vadim, Umiliani's "Panoramica" remixed by Cinematic Orchestra, Lesiman's "Messaggio" remixed by Gak Sato, Piero Piccioni's "Colpo Rovente" remixed by Benja & Fatalis, and lots lots more! Guido & Maurizio De AngelisPiedone D'Egitto (180 gram colored vinyl pressing) ... LP
Beat (Italy), 1980. New Copy ... $36.99 39.99
A great entry in the Piedone series of films from Italian comedic legend Bud Spencer – scored by the DeAngelis brothers with a col sort of 80s take on their earlier cinematic modes! As with most of the Italian scores of the time, spare instrumentation and keyboards are used in place of fuller orchestrations – and the result is a batch of playful themes that really fit the goofy action that Spencer spins out on the screen – cheesier sounds that work very nicely with the offbeat performance that always made Bud's films such guilty pleasures! Features a total of 22 tracks – including two versions of the vocal theme "Sphinx" – fitting as the film is set in Egypt! LP, Vinyl record album

Claudio GizziAndy Warhol's Dracula (aka Blood For Dracula) ... LP
Varese, 1974. Sealed ... $69.99
A surprisingly rich soundtrack for this famous Andy Warhol horror film – one of his key cinematic collaborations with Paul Morrissey! Claudio Gizzi's music is way more than schlock, or even the usual horror bag – as he mixes light orchestrations with these spare instrumental passages in a way that links together older thriller traditions, particularly British ones, with some of the new spareness of the 70s. Dave GrusinHeart Is A Lonely Hunter ... LP
Warner, 1968. Near Mint- ... $2.99
A beautiful early soundtrack from Dave Grusin – surprisingly sensitive, and quite different than his later funky work in the 70s! The score is a cool mix of strings and keyboard parts – sometimes played on harpsichord by Grusin, an instrument that we don't always hear him use, and which rings out here with a hip 60s cinematic style – often a bit spacey at points, with a slow-stepping pace that really fits the feel of the orchestrations. The strings are never too full, and they're often cut by some woodwind parts too – and a few tracks feature some more familiar 60s modes, including a few standout vocal tracks – like "The Color Of The Wind", "Elizabeth", "I Can't Afford To Let You Go", and "Beyond The Reach Of Love". Includes the main title theme, plus "Drop Out", "The Last Walk", "Aftermath", "Growing Pains", and "Symphodelic", which is a nice twist on a bit of Mozart! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Guido & Maurizio De AngelisBanana Joe (180 gram colored vinyl) ... LP
Beat (Italy), 1982. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
That's the great Bud Spencer on the cover here, starring in one of his wonderfully playful comedies from the early 80s – maybe not the highest level of cinematic brilliance, but always a very good time on the screen! Music is always a key part of these films – and as in others, this one's got a theme that's repeated often as Bud hits the screen in scene to scene – a playful, romping groove that has a keyboard part that sounds like a pan flute, leaping along with the rhythms in a really nice way! Some numbers also echo a "Banana Joe" vocal theme too – and the music has electric bass and keyboards next to the larger orchestrations. Most tracks are variations on the theme, but some get a bit groovier too – and titles also include the "Wanna Believe" soul track, with vocals from Yvonne Wilkins. LP, Vinyl record album
