✨✧ Central LineCentral Line ... LP
Mercury, 1981. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The sweetly grooving first album from Central Line – one of the few British soul groups to really kick it in the early 80s scene – with a catchy dancefloor sound that both encapsulates the era and lays down a killer groove for the ages! The album is a blend of bass riffing, keyboards, group vocals and nice electro touches – always done with a truly soulful approach as a perfect counter balance to the breezy electronics! Upbeat and fresh early 80s modern soul that holds up better than most huge hits of the time! Titles include the killer opener "Walking Into Sunshine", plus "Don't Tell Me", "Shake It Up", "Breaking Point", and "I Need Your Love". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Central LineWalking Into Sunshine (special Larry Levan mix, original) ... 12-inch
Mercury, 1981. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
THE standout cut from Central Line – a track so big that it got the group noticed over here on our side of the Atlantic, and forever gave them a place in the hallowed halls of 80s groove! The tune chugs along at a great roller skating rhythm – with some spare use of keyboards that pepper the track alongside the catchy vocals – all made even better here on a super-sweet Larry Levan mix! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Steve Grossman & Cedar Walton TrioLove Is The Thing (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Red (Italy), 1985. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... $44.99 49.99
Steve Grossman joins the Cedar Walton Trio – on a sweet little set that makes for one of Grossman's deepest records of the 80s! Although Steve can really blow with a lot of power when he wants to, he hits a much more lyrical mode here – one that's clearly in line with the warm tones of Walton's piano, opened up nicely in the album's collection of familiar tunes that provide plenty of gentle ballad space for Grossman to blossom. Walton plays piano with David Williams on bass and Billy Higgins on drums – and titles include "Naima", "Easy To Love", "My Old Flame", "Easy Living", "415 Central Park West", and "What's New". Prestige, Early 50s/1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Nice set that takes the 2 Wardell Gray Memorial LPs, and adds a few bonus tracks and a good set of liner notes. The material is classic LA bebop, and hardly needs an introduction. Gray plays with a number of different groups, and players like Sonny Clark, Frank Morgan, Hampton Hawes, Sonny Criss, and Al Haig. Titles include "Blue Gray", "Grayhound", "Twisted", "Move", and "Paul's Cause". LP, Vinyl record album

Gene Ammons & Dexter GordonChase ... LP
Prestige, 1971. Very Good ... $6.99
Gritty live work from twin tenor giants Gene Ammons and Dexter Gordon – recorded in an open-ended style that's a bit like some of Gordon's famous early work on the Central Avenue scene in LA, or Ammons' famous live "battles" with Sonny Stitt! The date was recorded in Chicago at the North Park Hotel – with sound that's a bit more "live" than some of the other Prestige sessions at the time – and an unusual lineup that features local players Jodie Christian and John Young on piano, Cleveland Eaton on bass, and Steve McCall on drums. The lovely Vi Redd makes a vocal appearance on the track "Lonesome Lover Blues" – and other titles include "The Chase", "Polka Dots & Moonbeams", and "The Happy Blues" – all nice and long! LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo purple label pressing with Van Gelder stamp. Cover has edge wear, light surface wear & aging, name in pen on the back.)

✨✧ Undisputed TruthSmokin' ... LP
Warner/Whitfield, 1979. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The Undisputed Truth are still going very strong at the end of the 70s – working with original producer Norman Whitfield, in a groove that's every bit as wonderful as their early years! There's a killer mix of funk and deeper soul here that few other acts could handle this well – a way of hitting the flashy funk of Sly & The Family Stone or Graham Central Station – but also not falling into any showbiz traps, either – in a mode that really his the group not only respecting the role of each member, but also working together in a very cohesive way on the album. The result is a great little set that balances funky grooves with some excellent cosmic soul cuts – supported by great session work from giants like Wah Wah Watson, Walt Downing, and Jack Ashford. A few cool keyboard lines further cement the sound of the record – and titles include "Show Time", "Space Machine", "I Can't Get Enough Of Your Love", "Misunderstood", "Sandman", "Atomic Funk", and "Talkin To The Wind". ✨✧ Bill Evans & Jim HallUndercurrent (Douglas) ... LP
United Artists, Early 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A legendary set from the team of guitarist Jim Hall and pianist Bill Evans – both already wonderful players on their own, but really hitting a magical sort of space here together! The record is a classic in understatement – the inevitable meeting of two players who'd both made a career out of saying more with less – and both Evans and Hall manage to make this special sort of sound when working together in such a space – spare, but never short on ideas – filled with color and tone, but never overdone. The tracks are long and dreamy, and the piano/guitar lines seem to float in the air, suspended on naught but idea and imagination. Titles include a very nice version of "Skating In Central Park", plus "Dream Gypsy", "Romain", and "Darn That Dream". LP, Vinyl record album
(Early 70s pressing.)
