✨✧ FluxusFluxus Newspaper ... Book
Primary Information, 2024. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A totally cool book – one that offers up full-size reproductions of the eleven different newspapers published by the legendary Fluxus art group in the 60s and the 70s! If you know Fluxus, you know that they're not just artists, but tricksters as well – a group dedicated to causing slight disruptions in the public sphere through their creative activity – in ways that are sometimes subtle or whimsical, but which have a larger challenge to power behind them. That's definitely the case here with their newspapers – sporadic publications that sometimes take on the look of a more conventional paper, sometimes have a more artistic approach – and which take the format to offer unique takes on culture and society, but in the inventive approaches of the artists. Between them, the issues feature work by over 60 artists – including La Monte Young, Joseph Beuys, Christo, Alice Hutchins, Nam June Paik, George Maciunas, Gyorgy Ligeti, Yoko Ono, and others – all serve up here on oversized black and white pages, but in a much more durable format than the original papers. ✨✧ Ray Potes, edHamburger Eyes – Inside Burgerworld (hardcover) ... Book
Powerhouse Books, 2007. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
If you find the image on the cover as striking as we do, wait until you see what's inside – page after page of brilliant black and white photographs, all taken from the long-running Hamburger Eyes publication – still somewhat young when this book came out, but already clearly a leading voice in 21st Century photography! The images vary wildly, but they all have a unifying vibe – material by a range of different photographers who seem to capture a special moment on the street, or an oddity in reality – keen work by a lineup that includes Mark Murrmann, Ryan Furtado, Matt Weber, Ted Pushinsky, Boogie, Vic Blue, and many others – a band of disparate artist who seem to have a great unifying thread in their work. The book is lovingly done in the best tradition of Powerhouse Press – hardcover, very little text, just page after page of explosive images! Book

✨✧ Jon Savage1966 – The Year The Decade Exploded (softcover) ... Book
Faber, 2015. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of the most important books that Jon Savage has ever written – a huge volume that takes all the knowledge, experience, and energy he brought to his work on punk rock, and turns it to the crucial year of 1966! As the title indicates, Savage finds this year to be an important one – twelve months in which so many key cultural forces rose up to take hold – psychedelia, feminism, gay rights, black power, and other intellectual outlooks that went on to shape the world for years to come! As always with Savage, music is at the core – but he also delivers things in a larger cultural perspective, tying things together wonderfully – in chapters that follow the year month to month, with writing that is more social/cultural history than the music volume you might expect. Softcover volume is 653 pages, with some black and white images. Book

✨✧ Snorri BrosLaundromat (hardcover) ... Book
Powerhouse Books, 2013. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
The title's no lie, as the book is exactly what is promised – a surprisingly cool photo book that documents the laundromats of New York City – conveniently divided up into different chapters for each borough, with the real address of each location as well! Every image has the same stark representation as the photo on the front – and the presentation creates this really surprising sense of form and format – the slight variations that set each business apart, almost like the famous storefront book from years back. There's a short essay on the status of the American laundromat at the end – and the book is hardcover, full color, and 155 pages. Book
