✨✧ John CageJohn Cage (Tomato) ... LP
Tomato, 1978. Very Good- ... Out Of Stock
A great collection of earlier compositions by Cage – most of which we prefer to later work, because of their striking and bracing approach to the music. Titles include "She Is Asleep", a duet for voice & prepared piano, "A Room", for prepared piano, "Two Pastorales", for prepared piano, "Seven Haiku", for prepared piano, "And The Earth Shall Bear Again", for prepared piano. Joshua Pierce plays piano – and the prepared piano sides sound great! LP, Vinyl record album
(Side 2 plays with surface noise. Cover has some edge wear, ghost sticker spot.)

✨✧ Herbie MannBird In A Silver Cage ... LP
Atlantic, 1976. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Sweet funky 70s work from Herbie Mann – one of his best records of the time, and a set that's got a stretched-out and slightly cosmic feel! The album's clearly the brainchild of writer/arranger/producer Sylvester Levay – who also plays keyboards on the session, and creates a groove that's not that dissimilar from some of the Dave Matthews work on Kudu or CTI – despite the fact that Levay was best known for his work with Silver Convention! The overall sound is slick, but still has plenty of room for solo work – and there's some uptempo numbers that groove out, but without as much of the cheesy disco touches as some of Mann's other records. Titles include "Aria", "Bird In A Silver Cage", "The Piper", and "Birdwalk". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light ring wear. Labels have marker.)

✨✧ Ennio MorriconeLa Cage Aux Folles (Birds Of A Feather) ... LP
Cerberus, 1978. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A huge international hit for Morricone – quite a surprise, given the warmth and whimsy in the music – which is a real change from some of the maestro's darker moments of the 70s! The tunes often use light electric instrumentation in these really nice ways – playful, and certainly comedic – but with these occasional deeper touches that are definitely Morricone, too – especially in some of the slower moments that have this great interplay between woodwinds and keyboards. One of these is the track "L'Onorevole Famiglia", worth the price of the album alone! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Elton JohnElton John ... LP
Uni, 1970. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The first real moment of genius from Elton John – a record issued with an understated cover and title, but which set the scene for all the greatness to come from the singer in the 70s! The strength of the Bernie Taupin partnership is on full display here – through a set of amazing tunes that are still some of Elton's greatest – delivered with vocal performances that are open, honest, and free of any sense of self-consciousness – matched by arrangements that use strings in ways that are subtle and sublime. The whole thing is a masterpiece – with titles that include "Your Song", "Sixty Years On", "First Episode At Hienton", "I Need You To Turn To", "Take Me To The Pilot", "Border Song", "The Greatest Discovery", and "The Cage". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original Uni pressing. Cover has a small split on the top seam and some edge wear.)

✨✧ Art Ensemble Of ChicagoPhase One (original America pressing) ... LP
America (France), 1971. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of the headiest albums ever recorded by the Art Ensemble of Chicago – a brilliant mix of noise and silence that rivals some of the greatest genius of the 20th century avant composition! The album's lead track "Ohnedaruth" builds slowly with a variety of percussion – traveling in People In Sorrow territory that shows a remarkable sense of sound and space. All members of the group pick up some percussion to build the track as it goes along – then follow suit with a more reed-based approach on the other extended tune on the album, "Lebert Aaly" – the group's brilliant tribute to the late Albert Ayler! The sound is incredibly deep and textured – and draws a clear line between creative improvisation and technical composition that puts the group alongside Cage and Hindemuth! LP, Vinyl record album
(Original French pressing. Cover has some light wear – vinyl is great!)

✨✧ DellsThere Is ... LP
Cadet, 1968. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of the coolest collaborations between the mighty Dells and the great arranger Charles Stepney – a studio talent who really brings some magic to their fantastic harmonies! Stepney adds in all these amazing touches to the record – including John Cage-styled prepared piano on two tracks, and plenty of soaring orchestrations that really up the power of the group's sound! Titles include the wonderful progressive tune "There Is", a great long remake of "Stay In My Corner", and the cuts "Wear It On Our Face", "The Change We Go Through", "Higher & Higher", "Close Your Eyes", "Run For Cover", "Love Is So Simple", "Oo I Love You", and "When I'm In Your Arms". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original 60s blue label pressing, with deep groove – a great copy! Cover has very light wear, but is nice too.)

✨✧ Eddie HarrisPlug Me In ... LP
Atlantic, 1968. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Killer stuff – and an amazing album that not only showcases the varitone sax talents of Eddie Harris, but also features some fantastic arrangements by Chicago soul genius Charles Stepney! Harris plugs in right from the start – blowing an electric sax that comes up with some groovy groovy sounds – perfect for Stepney to work with on the backdrops – mixing together funky orchestrations, off-kilter strings, and even some prepared piano, ala John Cage – similar to the mode he used with Ramsey Lewis at Cadet! Tunes are wonderful – offbeat, funky, and plenty darn soulful – and titles include "Live Right Now", "It's Crazy", "Winter Meeting", and "Theme In Search Of A TV Commercial". LP, Vinyl record album
(Red and green label Broadway pressing – a nice copy!)

✨✧ Lalo SchifrinEnter The Dragon ... LP
Warner, 1973. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A classic to end all classics – and the record that showed the world that the kung fu genre could be every bit as funky as American crime and action films! Lalo Schifrin's at the height of his powers on this set – working in a blend of raw guitars, rolling bass, and choppy rhythms that groove about as fast as Bruce Lee's hands move on the screen in the film – and the album's a real standout in the 70s soundtrack scene, well worth all the hype and attention that's been given to it over the years! The record's one you'll dig if you're a fan of funk, or a student of Schifrin – and even after the passage of decades, it's still a tough soundtrack to beat. Titles include the classic "Theme From Enter The Dragon", plus "Bamboo Bird Cage", "The Monk", "Han's Island", "The Big Battle", and "The Human Fly". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original US pressing. Cover has a split spine, half split top seam, some ring & edge wear.)

✨✧ Art FarmerPortrait Of Art Farmer ... LP
Contemporary, 1958. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A really pivotal album from the great Art Farmer – a late 50s session that has him finding that sense of tone and timing that would dominate his work in years to come! Art was already great by the time of this set, but he's also got maybe a more personal, almost poetic vibe at times – starting to realize that the space between the notes is as important as the notes themselves, while still maybe holding onto a slight bit of the bite of his earliest recordings too. The group is a very well-matched trio of easygoing modernists – Hank Jones on piano, Addison Farmer on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums – on titles that include "Too Late Now", "Back In The Cage", "And Now", "Stablemates", "Earth", and "Nita". LP, Vinyl record album
Also available Portrait Of Art Farmer (180 gram pressing) ... LP 26.99

✨✧ Ferrante & TeicherBlast Off! ... LP
ABC, Early 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of the few totally brilliant early Ferrante & Teicher albums – especially for their non-Westminster label releases! The album's a lot like the great Westminster titles – in that it features the pair working in very strange arrangements – often tuning the pianos strangely, and putting things inside the strings, in the manner of John Cage's prepared piano experiments from earlier years. The sound is incredible – highly pyrotechnic, with loads of weird bits, noises, and more odd stuff! Titles include "In The Rain", "Chopstick Cha Cha", "Merry Widow", "Love", "Hurdy Gurdy", and "Busman's Holiday". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Francis LaiLove Is A Funny Thing (aka Un Homme Qui Me Plait) ... LP
United Artists, 1970. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of Francis Lai's more successful soundtracks, written shortly after his legendary work on Un Homme et Une Femme and Vivre Pour Vivre. The theme of the film is one of Lai's most instantly recognized ones, and it's served up here in a number of different versions with spare haunting keyboards. The rest of the score's a mix of spare moody electric tracks and sweeping orchestral ones with a great rush of emotion. Titles include "Un Homme Qui Me Plait", "Concerto Pour La Fin D'Un Amour", "Las Vegas Circus Ballet", and "Les Filles En Cage". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Jeanne LeeConspiracy ... LP
Earthforms, 1975. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of the most obscure albums ever from the amazing singer Jeanne Lee – and that's saying a lot, given how obscure most of her albums are in general! The record has a beautifully poetic feel – a mixture of songs, improvisations, and some spoken passages too – set to fantastic improvisation from a group of players that includes Sam Rivers on soprano, tenor, and flute; Gunter Hampel on piano, vibes, alto, and flute, Jack Gregg on bass, and Steve McCall on drums – plus guest work from Mark Whitecage on alto, and both Perry Robinson and Allan Praskin on clarinet. There's some of the spirituality of a Strata East recording here, mixed with some of the more open modes of the New York loft jazz scene too – and titles include "Sundance", "Yeh Come T Be", "Jamaica", "Subway Couple", "The Miracle Is", "Your Ballad", "Angel Chile", and "Conspiracy". ✨✧ AtmosphereSeven's Travels (10th Anniversary Edition) ... LP
Rhymesayers/Epitaph, 2003. Near Mint- 3LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Atmosphere returns wielding their signature sound full force! What they've come out with this round is by far their most experimental – definitely fresher and more distinct than the "safety" of God Loves Ugly. Slug bounces along melodically, tortured and true to his nature, yet he comes off a little (just a little) more optimistic this time and he recites more than just tales of love lost. He STILL is at his tightest when weaving wonderful heart-wrenching stories instead of bragging, yet I don't think you hear the name Lucy once on this album. Sean Daley, the philosopher? – maybe we'll see more and more of that in the future. ANT's production is sounding much much better since God Loves Ugly – these beats pound just a little harder, seemingly influenced by punk rock, seventies rock, and folk rock (any rock). There still is a whole lotta soul in there, which is very nice, yet he still ain't afraid to pitch the formula, say sample some off kilter scatting or a ripping metal guitar. Tracks include "Bird Sings Why The Caged I Know", "Cats Van Bags", "National Disgrace", "Liquor Lyles Cool July". "Good Times", "Keys To Life Vs 15 Minutes Of Fame", "Reflections" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
