✨✧ WhispersBingo – The Janus Recordings 1972 to 1974 ... CD
Janus/Sequel (UK), Early 70s. Used 2CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Some of the greatest recordings ever by The Whispers – tracks recorded for the Janus label in the early 70s, a time when the group was really coming into their own! The Janus tracks are some of the most sought-after and hard to find of the group's catalog – and show the LA group stepping forth confidently from the harmony ballads of earlier years, into the sweet uptempo grooves that would make them huge as the 70s wore on. The package features an insane amount of material, including all of the tracks from 3 albums – Love Story, Life & Breath, and Bingo – plus a wealth of bonus tracks, making for a total of 36 tracks in all! Titles include "Your Love Is So Doggone Cool", "Can We Love Forever", "Life & Breath", "Bingo", "Mother For My Children", "Will You Be Mine", "Once More With Feeling", "God Gave Me Everything", "All I Ever Do", "Where There Is Love", "Somebody Loves You", "Hopeless Situation", and "Can't Stop Talkin". ✨✧ Eddie Lockjaw DavisJaws In Orbit ... CD
Prestige/OJC, 1959. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Eddie Lockjaw Davis swings way out here – working in that cool cooking mode from the 50s, with organist Shirley Scott a very important partner on the date! The group's got a larger sound than usual – thanks to the addition of trombonist Steve Pullman – a player we don't know much, but who shifts the groove nicely away from some of Davis' more staid cookbook albums. Rhythm is by George Duvivier on bass and Arthur Edgehill on drums – and titles include "Bahia", "Foxy", "Bingo Domingo", and "Can't Get Out Of This Mood". CD

✨✧ Junior ManceJunior Mance Trio At The Village Vanguard ... CD
Jazzland/OJC, 1961. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A firey little trio session from Junior Mance – one that features tracks taken at a pace that's even more uptempo than usual, and which really pushes his skills on the keys! The speed of the set is by no means a detriment to Mance's soulful playing – and if anything, the record stands as one of his most compelling from the period – not just a batch of soul jazz styles that were soon becoming cliches, but a vibrant example of the full range of Mance's talents, caught in a very spontaneous setting. Trio members include Larry Gales on bass and Ben Riley on drums – and titles include "Smokey Blues", "Bingo Domingo", "Looptown", "Letter From Home", and "Girl Of My Dreams". CD
