For our money, Side Effect's version of "Same Old Feeling" is still the best. It's got some great vocal harmonies, and the jazzy stepping groove comes in just right! "Life Is What You Make It" is no slouch either, with a pumping bottom heavy funk boogie vibe keeping the track plugging along! 7-inch, Vinyl record
"Future Shock" has always been one of our perennial faves from Curtis, and it's paired nicely here with the spacey "Other Side Of Town", from his Curtis LP. Beautiful soul, and very righteous! 7-inch, Vinyl record
A sweet bit of disco, with a wonderful hook! We've never been sure if this Caress is the same group that went onto record later for P&P Records fame, but the tune's got these sweeping strings, falsetto vocals, and a nicely rhythmic pulse that all share real P&P touches – even if Peter Brown or Patrick Adam's names aren't on the credits! Written by Gregg Diamond, and a really nice little tune! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Ok, so it's not the kind of record you'd normally find in a pile of funky 45s – but once Tribe Called Quest called our attention to the great bassline at the beginning, there was no turning back for "Walk On The Wild Side"! "Perfect Day" is nice too – an overlooked number by Lou with a sweet finish, and a really dark center. 7-inch, Vinyl record
A nice little single – despite the name! The a-side is a sleepy blues number, but the flip – "Disco Blues" – is a great groover. The cut begins with a bouncy bass and choppy guitar, all rolling together in a nice funky way while Willie sings and plays harmonica in a bluesy style. The gimmick shouldn't work, but the cut's pretty compelling overall – and that bass is monster dirty! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Forget the a-side, because the b-side's the killer! "Tuck's Theme" is a great instrumental – slow organ bubbling underneath a building bass, horns sliding over the top as the whole thing vamps along, but the groove always staying in the dark corners that make it so compelling! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Beautiful uptempo Philly stuff from Luther Vandross, back when he managed to make stuff with a disco groove, but that also had the feel of a great soul record. 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Promo in an Atlantic/Atco Group sleeve, with bent corners and a small tear in the die-cut. Label on stereo side has an X in pen.)
