✨✧ Peggy LeeBlack Coffee/Sea Shells ... CD
Universal (UK), 1953/1956. Used ... Out Of Stock
2 of Peggy's best albums of the 50s – both Decca sides cut with incredibly strong backing! Black Coffee has Peggy singing with some great late night jazz overtones – moving past the gimmicky hits of the Capitol years, and establishing herself as a sensitive jazz vocalist with a real talent for moody expression. Sea Shells is even more compelling – and has Peggy singing with strange spare backing led by a harp – creating a wispy and sad tone that's quite unique for the time – and which seems to bring out even more blue tones in Peggy's voice than any other album we can remember! The set features 28 tracks in all – with titles that include "Black Coffee", "Easy Living", "Love Me Or Leave Me", "When The World Was Young", "Sea Fever", "The Wearing Of The Green", "A Brown Bird Singing", and "Little Old Car". ✨✧ Dory Langdon (Dory Previn)My Heart Is A Hunter (aka Leprechauns Are Upon Me) ... CD
Croydon Municipal (UK), Late 50s. Used ... Out Of Stock
The first ever album by Dory Previn – recorded in the late 50s for Verve, as Dory Langdon! Just a year later, Dory would marry composer and pianist Andre Previn, but their professional relationship had already begun, as Andre plays piano here, along with jazz guitar great Kenny Burrell. It's done in an intimate jazzy style that's stylistically a world away form Dory's singer-songwriter records of the 70s, but it's charming, worthy stuff! Titles include "Can't We Be Enemies", "Lonely Girl In London", "Leprechauns Are Upon Me", "Carefree Love", "No", "Sea Shells", "Gooney Bird", "Just For Now", "Forget Me" and more. CD

Take a trip to the sea with this mighty sweet collection – a whole batch of boat and summer-related tracks from the glory days of the 7" single – served up in a variety of different genres, and with a mix of music that would work pretty darn well for a winter cruise as well! The package has all the great look and groovy vibe as the other excellent entries in the Destination series from Bear Family – detailed notes that match the colorful package, and a set list of 33 tracks we never would have thought to bring together like this – with titles that include "Cool Water" by Jack Scott, "Sippin Soda" by The Shells, "The Breeze" by Helen Scott, "Cool Shade" by Don Drummond, "Magic In A Summer Night" by Myron Lee & the Caddies, "Twistin On A Liner" by Joey Dee & The Starlighters, "Sea Cruise" by The Keil Isles, "It's A Lovely Day Today" by Dick Haymes & Eileen Watson, "Teenie Weenie Bikini" by Mitchell Torok, "There's Gonna Be A Party On The Beach" by Bobby gray, "Rippling Waters" by Speedy West, and "Breaker" by The Polaras.
