✨✧ Nancy WilsonI've Never Been To Me ... LP
Capitol, 1977. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Nancy Wilson hits hard on two different levels – some of the mellow, sophisticated numbers that made her mid 70s years so great – and a few more upbeat groovers that aim strongly for the clubs! The blend is carried off well here – thanks to production and arrangements from Gene Page and Garry Sherman – both of whom avoid any too-commercial modes and really help keep the album at a level that works perfect for Wilson's huge legacy in soul music! The sound often has that great Capitol Rare blend of class and soul – and titles include "Love Is Alive", "Flying High", "All By Myself", "Here It Comes", "Moments", "Changes", and "Nobody". Billy EckstineOnce More With Feeling ... LP
Roulette, 1960. Near Mint- ... $1.99 3.99
Later work by Billy Eckstine – a nice little album from the early 60s, recorded in a dark and somber tone that shows a whole new side to his voice! The album features amazingly restrained arrangements by Billy May – a mix of jazz and strings that has a sadder, deeper style than before – one that certainly fits the "with feeling" claim of the title. Tracks include "Once More With Feeling", "Stormy Weather", "I Love You", "With Every Breath I Take", "Secret Love", and "As Time Goes By". CD features 2 bonus tracks – "Like Wow" and "Anything You Wanna Do". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo color bar label pressing, with deep groove. Cover has light wear.)

Accompanied by Joe Newman on trumpet, Houston Person on tenor, Cedar Walton on piano, George Duvivier on bass, and Jimmy Cobb on drums. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Dean MartinFrench Style ... LP
Reprise, Early 60s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A nice one from Dino's early years at Reprise! French Style has Dean working with jazzy Neal Hefti arrangements – and singing the kind of postwar tunes that always evoked at bit of Paris, but which were mostly English language numbers – titles like "Gigi", "I Love Paris", "Mimi", "Darling, Je Vous Aime Beaucoup", "The Last Time I Saw Paris", and "Mam'selle". Despite the gimmick, the album comes off surprisingly well thanks to Dino's sublime vocal work! LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono tri-color steamboat label pressing with deep groove.)

✨✧ Double Six Of ParisSwingin Singin! ... LP
Philips, 1962. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Great early stuff by this swingin' French vocal group! These guys swung as hard as American groups, like Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross – but they stuck to hipper, jazzier material, and had a driving sound that never let up! The group is led by singer Mimi Perrin, who also handed the arrangements – and it features French jazz greats Ward Swingle and Eddy Louiss. Includes some great jazzy versions of "Naima", "Boplicity", "Westwood Walk", and "Early Autumn". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Mark MurphyMark Murphy Sings ... LP
Muse, 1975. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Arguably the best Mark Murphy album ever – a stunningly soulful, and slightly spiritual 70s session that features some of his hippest tunes ever – and backings from a Dave Matthews-arranged group that also includes The Brecker Brothers and Don Grolnick on keyboards! Titles include great vocal versions of "Naima", "Empty Faces", "Red Clay", "Maiden Voyage", and "Canteloupe Island". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Jack JonesJack Jones Sings Michel Legrand ... LP
RCA, 1971. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Proof that Jack Jones is a much better singer than you might think! Forget hits like "Love Boat" or "Wives And Lovers", and check out a record like this – a wonderfully dark batch of tracks composed by French soundtrack genius Michel Legrand, recorded in Paris with arrangements and backings by Legrand himself! The record is one of the few English language albums to truly get the vocal interpretation of Legrand's work right – and it's got a depth of expression that you'd never expect to hear from Jones, a complicated approach to the tunes that's actually not that distant from a singer like Scott Walker (no surprise, as Walker always claimed that Jones was one of his biggest influences!) Titles include "One At A Time", "The Years Of My Youth", "Pieces Of Dreams", "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life", and "Blue Green Grey & Gone". LP, Vinyl record album
