Last Poets —
At Last ... LP BlueThumb, Early 70s. Very Good- ...
Temporarily Out Of Stock
Probably the rarest of all albums by the Last Poets – so rare that it often doesn't show up in lists of their work, and that it's never reissued with the frequency of their other early titles. Jalal is firmly in place by this point, and his hip rhyming poetry has brought a new level of musicality to the group that shows up best in the album's jazzier numbers and nice traces of funk. The politics are still as strong as ever – they're just tempered with a bit more concern for phrasing, and a tighter approach to overall delivery. Titles include "Uncle Sam's Lament", "In Search Of Knowledge", "The Courtroom", "African Slave", "Death Row", and "Tranquility". (Soul, Spoken Word)LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover has heavier edge wear with splitting on the spine, and ring wear.)
Wild! This is an excellent compilation of material from Nordine's earlier Word Jazz albums on Dot – repackaged in a very hip version, for the hippie crowd that was rediscovering him at the time. The album includes an incredible selection of Nordine's weird productions, with lots of spacey sounds, odd vocal techniques, and an incredibly compelling approach to sonic narrative. Titles include "Outer Space", "Firefly", "Confessions of 349-18-5171", "Roger", "Looks Like Rain", "Lemming", "Original Sin", and "Smerd". LP, Vinyl record album
