Great grooves from Piero Umiliani – a sweet 70s session of sound library material, served up in a warm blend of funky rhythms and mighty nice keyboards! Hammond is in the lead on most numbers – echoing those cool odd phrasing styles that Umiliani used in the late 60s, but given more of a straightforward groove thanks to the backings – which move between cop show funk and some slightly clubbier styles at point. Way more than you'd expect from any sort of typical gangster movie – a set of godlike sounds that could only have come from the hands of the great Piero Umiliani! The music is filled with jazzy touches and these stunning deeper currents – served up in a mix of vibes, flute, Hammond, and tenor – often with floating, open qualities that are completely hypnotic, which are then balanced out by tighter jazz passages that really send the whole thing home!
