War did the music for this funky soundtrack to an early Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs film, and although most of the stuff on here is just typical War stuff, there's one track called "Flying Machine" that's a long funky chase scene-type track that's worth the price of the album alone! The Buddah soul stable came out in full force for this soundtrack, including Harvy Fuqua, The New Birth, Barbara Mason, and Horace Ott – as well as the little known group Badder Than Evil! They play on the great instrumental track "Hot Wheels", which is the chase theme in the film, and a great sample track! Kind of nutty stuff from this weird Blake Edwards film that starred James Coburn and Dick Shawn. The material's not as jazz-based as some of Mancini's other scores, but it does have a delightfully nutty sound that's in keeping with the kind of mad 60s film it was written for. The postwar memory of the film situates it in Italy, so a fair number of the melodies have slight Italian overtones – including "Sicily Forever", "Gina", "Wine and Women", and "Festa!". Tightly-strung score for this forgotten war flick starring Roger Moore, Richard Burton, and Richard Harris. Budd does a nice job with the orchestra on this one, and most of the themes have a snappy militaristic style, in the vein of The Magnificent Seven or The Great Escape. Not as many jazzy bits as usual, but a nice dramatic score, and still up to Budd's usual high standards. A war soundtrack – but with some different touches that make it nicer than you'd think! The music was written by groovy French composer Georges Garvarentz, and performed in the KPM studios by Roland Shaw's orchestra – so despite the fact that the setting of the film is a military thriller, there's also some nice numbers that have kind of a 60s easy feel to them. A fairly straight orchestral score by John Barry – written for this early 60s film that starred George Segal, Tom Courneay, and Denholm Elliott. The film's a war one, and the themes are pretty typical for that sort of thing – but they do have some nice instrumental touches that push them past the usual bag, and which show that Barry's younger writing was always a treat, no matter what the setting. A great little James Bond soundtrack – written for one of the lesser-remembered Bond films, but filled with nice moments! There's a darker, moodier feel here than on some of Barry's other Bond scores – lots of stretched out tracks that have a bit more space than usual, and odd instruments punctuating the themes with an eerie, other-worldly edge that almost reminds us of some of the best Italian thriller work from the time. Riz Ortolani did the soundtrack for this groovy film about 3 Americans (Peter Lawford, Telly Savalas, and Phil Silvers) returning to Italy after the war in a reunion with the woman who is the mother of a child that belongs to one of them. Sounds odd – and it is (believe us, we've seen the film!) Most of the score kind of has a romantic "vet returning to Italy after the war" feel – but there are some nice groovy moments – including the title theme "Buona Sera Mrs Campbell", a great vocal number by Jimmy Roselli! Totally classic work from John Carpenter – and maybe one of the greatest horror/slasher soundtracks ever! Halloween was already pretty darn great – but here, Carpenter pushes it even further – using all the best elements of the first – including the incredible theme – in ways that go even further, and which shake off any schlocky moments and turn into a total creepfest overall! The keyboards and electronics are wonderful – done with frequent partner Alan Howarth – and the sense of spacing and timing makes every musical moment a horrific delight! A strange little record from the days when the music industry had so much money to throw around, they could make sessions like these! The record is sort of a space rock opera – featuring a huge cast of stars like Cooper, Moon, Hopkins, John Entwistle, Jim Dandy, Eddie Jobson, Elkie Brooks, Justin Hayward, Bill Bruford, and others. The overall feel of the work is a bit like the Rocky Horror Show – a high camp, heavy rock parody of a vintage artform (in this case, the radio space opera.) The musicianship is actually pretty darn strong, even if the overall concept is a bit silly. Tracks include "I'm Flash", "Country Cooking", "What's Happening", "Space Pirates", and "Blast Off". An Italian comedy take on the story of Robinson Crusoe – one that's served up with lots of light musical touches, thanks to the team of Guido and Maurizio DeAngelis! The music here is a blend of tropical themes and some of the comedic 70s modes you'd guess from the cover art – rootsier percussion and a bit of light ukulele to create the "island" elements – and some warmer, fuller passages that evoke the Italian placement of the film – although overall, the music is probably more attuned to the acoustic elements than most of its type from the time.
