✨✧ Roy BuddMan At The Top (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Caldera (Germany), 1973. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
An overlooked score from the great Roy Budd – one that we're not sure ever made it to vinyl back in the day – and which is presented here in a nicely expanded version! The music has that tense quality that made the non-groovy cuts from Budd's Get Carter score so great – and which was followed in some of his other early 70s soundtracks – which, like the music here, really shows a maturation away from the straighter jazz of Roy's roots – but still features the occasional piano solo (including electric) to remind us that he's a performer as much as a composer. There's a darkly moody vibe to many numbers – this current of sadness that's really beautiful, and which flowers often in a subtle way – on titles that include "Change Of Plan", "The Journey Continues", "Opening", "In The Woods", "Peeping Robin", "Mingle With Me", "Swept Up In Memories", "In The Office", and "Bossa Nova". CD features the bonus tracks "Pipe Tobacco", "You Can Never Trust A Friend", and "Demo Jingle". CD

✨✧ Michael NymanPiano – Original Music From The Film By Jane Campion ... CD
Virgin, 1993. Used ... Out Of Stock
The gentle, spare soundtrack to the film "The Piano" by noted UK minimalist Michael Nyman, very much in the vein of his non-soundtrack (and other soundtrack) work. 19 titles in all, including "To The Edge Of The Earth", "A Wild & Distant Shore", "The Heart Asks Pleasure First", "The Promise", "A Bed Of Ferns", "The Scent Of Love", "The Mood That Passes Through You", "The Embrace", "Little Impulse", "I Clipped Your Wing", "The Wounded", "All Imperfect Things" and "Dreams Of A Journey". ✨✧ Terry RileyLes Yeux Fermes/Lifespan – Original Soundtracks ... CD
Elision Fields, 1972/1974. Used ... Out Of Stock
Two rare soundtracks by Terry Riley – unsung examples of his musical genius during one of the the most fruitful periods in his career! Les Yeux Fermes features two very long tracks – each over 18 minutes long, and spun out with a spare, minimal groove that's very much in Riley's Rainbow In Curved Air mode. "Journey From The Death Of A Friend" is especially nice – with extended electric piano parts that flow, dip, and turn wonderfully. And "Happy Ending" builds a bit more slowly – with droning reed parts that almost have an Eastern feel, and remind us at times of something we might hear on Impulse Records! The score for Lifespan features shorter songs throughout – still often quite minimal, with instrumentation that includes organ, tabla, and a bit of electronics – played in a wonderfully spare mode, but always with an inherently rhythmic groove that stretches out in these beautiful patterns in sound. Titles include "G Song", "The Oldtimer", "Delay", "In The Summer", "Slow Melody In Bhairavi", and "Music Inside Curved Entrances". (Out Sound, Soundtracks) CD

✨✧ John BarryMary Queen Of Scots (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Quartet (Spain), 1971. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A wonderful record from a time when John Barry was really perfecting his craft – taking all that amazing sense of sound he learned over the course of many James Bond soundtracks, and turning it towards territory he never could have touched years before! The vibe here is completely different than Bond, but equally mesmerizing – as Barry uses strings and woodwinds with the care of an Italian maestro, then flavors things with just a slight touch of historical elements – yet never in a way that dims the 70s sophistication of the recording. There's a sonic balance here that's mindblowing, and very different than just songs thrown out for a historical film. Titles include "Journey To England", "Black Night", "Escape With Bothwell", "Vivre Et Mourir", "But Not Through My Realm", "Mary At Chartley", and "March To The Castle". CD brings in a stunning 39 bonus tracks – material from the film, cues, and more – all with superb sound! CD

✨✧ Elmer BernsteinReturn Of The Magnificent Seven – Original MGM Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Ryko, 1966. Used ... Out Of Stock
Elmer Bernstein's theme to The Magnificent Seven is one of the standout soundtrack tunes of the 60s – an instantly recognizable number that you'll groove on right away, and which shows up often in Bernstein's soundtrack to this 1966 sequel to the original film. The CD features bonus dialogue from the movie, plus a quicktime version of the trailer – and tracks that include "The Magnificent Seven", "In The Trap", "Battle", "Finale", "Council", "The Journey", and "El Toro".
