Goblin/GirodiviteSquadra Antimafia ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1978/2023. New Copy ... $22.99 24.99
A fresh take on one of the most unusual soundtracks ever created by legendary Italian group Goblin – music for a film that's a bit more light-hearted than some of the others they scored, and which gets a great blend of funky and breezy tunes throughout! The film's a cop comedy, and Goblin set things up with lots of great keyboards, but used in ways that are less prog-oriented than their other soundtracks – and more towards funk or sound library modes – styles that are carried out here perfectly by the contemporary group Girodivite, who recreate the music as the tapes have been lost to time – carrying things off so well, the recording really does feel like a late 70s vintage one, even right down to the production. The whole thing is great – and the CD features 14 tracks in all – a great discovery of this rare chapter in the long career of Goblin! CD

Roberto PregadioIl Medico La Studentessa ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1976. New Copy ... Just Sold Out!
A groovy little soundtrack – one scored for a 70s film known as The Doctor & His Sexy Student! The music's got a light and playful kind of feel – partly 70s Euro erotica, but also with some slinkier touches that have a really nice 60s approach at times, and which feature nice little keyboard lines that dance around nicely! The main theme of the film is a bit jaunty, almost cheesy, but the other tracks on the set glide around with a really great feel – and make the soundtrack an excellent discovery from 70s Italy. Titles include "Country Piano", "Claudia In Motoretta", "Indagando", "Strip Tease", "Bi Di Bi Da", "Il Colonello", and "Bossanova Della Sposa". 19 tracks in all, including a few previously unissued numbers, and 4 tracks with vocals by I Cantori Moderni di Alessandro Alessandroni! CD
(Please note that the cover lists 20 tracks but there are 19 on the CD.)

Piero UmilianiAgente X1-7 Operazione Oceano ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1966. Used ... $15.99
Totally wonderful spy soundtrack work from Piero Umiliani – done in his best groovy style of the 60s, with a brilliant mix of jazz and mod elements throughout! Umiliani's extrapolating from the more famous spy sounds of Bond and Barry, and takes things very strongly into his own territory with a blend of light woodwinds, moody Hammond, snapping snare, and a bit of strings as well – interwoven with a really fresh feel that includes a bit of the bossa styles you'd hear in other Italian work of the time! Given the obscurity of the film, the soundtrack's a great discovery – and steps out boldly here on this set of 21 tracks from the movie. CD
Also available Agente X1-7 Operazione Oceano ... CD 16.99

Andrew Lloyd WebberOdessa File ... LP
Decca, 1974. Near Mint- ... $4.99
A strange little soundtrack from Andrew Lloyd Webber – written to accompany this action film starring Jon Voight, based on the spy thriller by Frederick Forsythe. About half the soundtrack is classical tunes or traditional German numbers – but there's also some nice electric funk tunes that more than make the album worth checking out, played by a small combo with some great keyboard work! The slowly funky tunes have a dope soundtrack feel and a bit of a CTI touch – and titles include "Miller's Theme", "Miller Joins The Odessa", and "Odessa Discovery" – all of which are nice weird funky tunes! ✨✧ Gladys Knight & The PipsPipe Dreams – Original Soundtrack ... LP
Buddah, 1976. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
After hitting big as a singer on the soundtrack for Claudine, Gladys Knight finally got her chance in front of the camera for Pipe Dreams – a record that featured her both as the star on film and on the soundtrack! The styles here are a bit more wider-ranging than the usual 70s soundtrack of this type – a bit of ballad soul, mellow numbers, and more – arranged by Dominic Frontiere and Michael Masser in styles that are a bit like some of Knight's own albums of the time. We like especially the jazzy vocalesey number "Pot Of Jazz", a nice number that deserves further discovery on a compilation – and other cuts include "Find A Way", "Follow My Dreams", "So Sad The Song", and "Alaskan Pipeline". ✨✧ Ennio MorriconeSpace 1999 – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Penta/Beat (Italy), 1975. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A really unique little record – one that's a revelation both to lovers of the music of Ennio Morricone, and fans of the sci-fi TV classic Space 1999! The program was famously scored by Barry Gray – in a sweet 70s variation of the best Brit TV modes – but here, the music is provided by Ennio Morricone – who created his own music for a special cinematic release in Italy – sounds that didn't get any global circulation at the time, and which are quite unknown to longtime devotees of the program, too! Morricone's music is extremely moody – an unusual blend of avant jazz, electronics, and other offbeat touches that are lifted from his horror work, but then abstracted in a very different way – and used here in some of his most striking sounds since his performances with the Gruppo D'Improvvisazione Nuova. CD features 70 minutes of music in all – a great discovery – and titles include "Eletronica #1", "Parallasse", "Suoni Di Una Nuova Civilita", "Interposione", "Studio", "Follia Nello Spazio", "Fasi", and "Elettronica #4". ✨✧ Keith EmersonInferno ... LP
Barclay (France), 1980. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Dario Agento hired aging prog rock star Keith Emerson for this 1980 horror soundtrack, and the overall approach used by Emerson is similar to some of his solo instrumental work from the late 70s – with lots of keyboard-heavy tracks (acoustic piano, organ, electric piano) that show off Emerson's virtuosity and classical training. The score has some elements that are similar to some of Argento's other soundtracks – like the contemporary work by Goblin – but it's also much more of an Emerson-driven album. The whole thing's remastered here and presented with a total of 15 tracks that include "Mark's Discovery", "Rose Gets It", "Elisa's Story", "Inferno", and "Taxi Ride". LP, Vinyl record album

Andrzej KorzynskiSekrety Pana Kleska – 1983 to 1988 Lost & Found Film Music ... CD
GAD (Poland), Mid 1980s. New Copy 2CD ... $16.99 19.99
Music that's a definite "sekrety" to most of us western listeners – as the set brings together some rare and overlooked soundtrack material from the great Polish composer Andrezj Korzynski – served up here in a range of modes that really show him going strong well into the 80s! A number of tracks showcase that great ear for odd, offbeat sounds that has made Korzynski such a key rediscovery in recent years – served up both on electric instrumentation with nice variations in styles and techniques, but also with some larger orchestrations that are pretty darn great too. As with other Gad label titles, the presentation here is wonderful – and the 2CD package features 54 tracks in all – titles from the projects Akademia Pana Kleksa, Pan Kleks W Kosmosie, and Podroze Pana Kleksa – plus bonus material too!
