✨✧ Herb Alpert & Hugh MasekelaMain Event Live ... CD
A&M/Herb Alpert, 1978. Used ... Out Of Stock
Masterful live set by Herb Alpert and Hugh Masekela – recorded at The Roxy in LA in 1978! Both their studio record from the same year and this massive live recording work incredibly well – as they're both geniuses at blending distinctive global influences – but they really cook in this live session in a way that's smoothed over a bit in the studio! Herb is on trumpet and Hugh is on flugelhorn – and the group features Mosa Jonas Gwangwa on trombone, with Larry Willis on keys, Arthur Adams and Jeff Sigman on guitars, Manola Badrena on percussion, Buddy WIlliams on drums and David Williams on bass,. Includes "Foreign Natives", "People Make The World Go Round", "Besame Mucho", "Mama Way", "Kalahari Nights", "Shame The Devil", "Mama Way" and "I'm Comin' Home". (Jazz, Soul) CD

✨✧ Jimmy CobbSo Nobody Else Can Hear ... CD
Expansion (UK), 1983. Used ... Out Of Stock
A fantastic album of mellow soul by jazz drummer Jimmy Cobb! Yes, that's right, the same Jimmy Cobb who played with Miles Davis in the 50s. This album's very different than Cobb's jazz work – and is a smooth album of jazzy soul, with a wonderfully warm vibe that sounds like some of the material on the Capitol Rare compilations. Nearly every track has vocals – either by the lovely Marilyn Redfield or by Gregory Hines – and the players on the album include jazz greats like Freddie Hubbard, Dave Liebman, Walter Booker, Larry Willis, Pee Wee Ellis, and others. Includes the jazzy stepper's classic "So Nobody Else Can Hear", plus "Pistachio", "Little Girl", "Remembering The Rain", "Spotlight", and "Cute". The original album is a super-rare vinyl only set, which makes this reissue even better to have! (Jazz, Soul) CD

✨✧ VariousDoing The James Brown – In The Footsteps Of The Godfather Of Funk ... CD
Harmless (UK), 1960s/1970s. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A brilliant batch of James Brown funky covers! This is one of the best compilations we've ever seen on the Harmless label – a collection of obscure version of tracks by James Brown or dedicated to James Brown, all with a funky sound that would make The Godfather himself pretty darn proud! Titles include "Hot Pants" by St Vincent Latinaires, "Mother Popcorn" by Dillard Crume & The Soul Rockers, "Cold Sweat" by Bernard Purdie, "Give It Up Or Turn It Loose" by The Daktaris, "James Brown" by The Last Poets, "Money Won't Change You" by Aretha Franklin, "There Was A Time" by Jerry O, "Ain't It Funky Now" by Grant Green, "Lickin Stick" by Larry Willis, "I Got The Feeling" by Chollo Rivera & The Latin Soul Drives, and "Calm & Cool" by James Brown himself! ✨✧ VariousKeeping The Faith – 40 Years Of Northern Soul – Memories & Souvenirs (4CD box set) ... CD
Sanctuary (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. Used 4CD ... Out Of Stock
An incredible tribute to the legendary Northern Soul scene in the UK – and almost equal parts book and CD collection! The 100-track set is wrapped around a whopping 58 page book penned by Neil Rushton – filled with stories and images from the glory days of the Northern scene of the 60s and 70s – telling the unique meeting of music that often had American soul artists finding much greater supper in England than they ever did at home! The core book really helps illuminate the music in the package – and it's filled with images of clubs, records, and DJs – as well as playlists and interviews alongside notes on the tunes! Think of this as finding one of those earlier books on Northern Soul completed with the addition of 4CDs worth of music – and you'll find that it's a heck of a deal, even at this price! Tracks include "Mr Soul Satisfaction" by Timmy Willis, "That Beatin Rhythm" by Richard Temple, "They're Talking About Me" by Johnny Bragg, "Trouble" by Ronnie Walker, "On The Real Side" by Larry Saunders, "I Need You" by Shane Martin, "Baby Don't Do It" by The United Four, "Let Me Try" by Odds & Ends, "Goose Pimples" by Shirley J Scott, "That Girl" by Porgy & The Monarchs – and obviously, lots lots more! CD
