✨✧ DellsNew Beginnings ... LP
ABC, 1978. Very Good+ ... Just Sold Out!
This Dells LP was cut around the time ABC was having some great luck with the Detroit soul of The Dramatics – so they brought the Dells over to Detroit to record, with production work by the likes of Al Perkins, George Clinton, and Eli Fontaine. The tunes have a smoother approach than the group's work at Chess/Cadet – but their vocals are still top notch, with that raspy soul quality that has made them sound consistently strong over the years, no matter what the setting. Includes versions of Clinton's "I Just Wanna Testify" and "All Your Goodies Are Gone" – plus the tracks "Cherish", "Tripped, Slipped, Stumbled & Fell". Lots of nice ballads! LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

SadeLove Deluxe ... LP
Epic/Legacy, 1992. New Copy (reissue)... $33.99 34.99 On September 20, 2024
Sade's last LP from the early 90s before she went into her brief recording and performing hiatus. Like the preceding records, the approach is heavy on the jazz side of things, with a crisp, spare touch on the production and a wonderfully soulful feel to the songwriting. At this point she no longer had to work to break into the charts, but that didn't stop her and her band from coming up with a great batch of material that managed to be easily accessible without losing any of the sublime grace that set her apart. Includes "No Ordinary Love", "Cherish The Day", "Feel No Pain", "I Couldn't Love You More", "Like A Tattoo", "Kiss Of Life", "Pearls", "Bullet Proof Soul" and "Mermaid". LP, Vinyl record album

Jr Walker & The All StarsRoad Runner ... LP
SOUL, 1966. Very Good+ ... $11.99 14.99
A stone cooker from Jr Walker – the kind of hard-driving soul that made his 60s Motown work a key link between the Detroit sound of the time, and R&B sounds of earlier years! Jr's soulful sax is right up in the mix on most numbers – and the overall sound is nicely freewheeling and almost spontaneous – almost a Motown studio jam at times, with vocals and instruments dancing together in joyous formation! Most tracks are instrumentals, but many also have some sort of vocal chorus – and titles include "Anyway You Wanta", "Pucker Up Buttercup", "Twist Lackawanna", "San Ho Zay", "Money", "Last Call", "Ame Cherie", "Mutiny", and "Road Runner". LP, Vinyl record album
(Taiwanese pressing on orange vinyl, still with plastic outer sleeve. Cover has a light stain at the bottom right corner.)

✨✧ Ashford & SimpsonSolid ... LP
Capitol, 1984. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Darn solid work from Ashford & Simpson – one of the duo's biggest albums for Capitol Records, and a great set from their 80s run for the label! The groove here is a bit more heavy on keyboards and beats than before, but the pair still keep things plenty soulful with their positive, upbeat approach to the music – rich, full, and always steeped in soul! The title track, "Solid", is one of the most-remembered tunes from the duo – and other cuts include "Outta The World", "The Jungle", "Honey I Love You", "Babies", "Cherish Forever More", and "Tonight We Escape". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

✨✧ Kool & The GangEmergency ... LP
De-Lite, 1984. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Sweet 80s sounds from the legendary Kool & The Gang – one of the key classics from the second chapter of the group – when their lineup and sound were a lot leaner than before, and they managed to cross over big to a much wider audience than before! The upbeat cuts show that the group were still kings of the funky dancefloor – and the mellower ones are equally great too – showing a rising ballad style that proved to be the group's big crossover card at the time – a way of putting over a laidback track, but with plenty of soul. This approach is heard to great effect on the album's great single "Cherish" – and other tracks include "Bad Woman", "Surrender", "Emergency", "Misled", "Fresh", and "You Are The One". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light wear and a trace of a sticker.)

✨✧ Jr Walker & The All StarsJr Walker & The All Stars Live! (1967) ... LP
SOUL, 1967. Very Good- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Definitely hard wailing stuff from Jr and group – caught here in a smoking live setting, which really lets them open up! The record begins with an introduction by the Velvelettes, and ends with Earl Van Dyke performing "Heartbreak" – but the rest of the album's by Jr and crew, and titles include "Hot Cha", "Shake & Fingerpop", "Cleo's Back", "Shotgun", "Ame Cherie (Soul Darling)", and "Tune Up". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original stereo pressing with deep groove. Cover has split top & bottom seams, light surface wear & aging, name in marker on the back. Labels have name in marker.)

✨✧ Quincy JonesMellow Madness ... LP
A&M, 1973. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A really great, oft-overlooked album from the best period of Quincy Jones! This album is quite possibly Quincy's most farthest-reaching – as he works in an array of styles that really shows his growing genius in the studio – not just jazz and soundtrack modes, but more soul-based ones, handled with work from a great array of guest stars who really expand the sound. There's loads of nice bits – like a version of "My Cherie Amour", done with vocals by Leon Ware and Minnie Riperton; a new take on "Bluesette", redone with Toots Thielemans; and the original "Beautiful Black Girl", which features rapping by The Watts Prophets! Other tracks include "Paranoid", "Cry Baby", "Tryin To Find Out About You", and "Listen (What It Is)". (Jazz, Soul) LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ SadeBest Of Sade (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Epic, Late 80s/Early 90s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Has there ever been anyone as lovely as Sade? We think not – and from the time she first hit our ears in the 80s, it was the start of an instant love affair that's continued for decades! Sade really brought something new to music at the time – a return to older styles of acoustic and jazz-based instrumentation, at a time when so many soul singers were mostly working with beats, keyboards, and samples – and a breathy voice that was instantly unique, and which kept on captivating us for years of recordings. This best of collection dates from the mid 90s – and provides an excellent sampling of tracks from Sade's albums Diamond Life, Promise, Stronger Than Pride, and Love Deluxe – titles that include "No Ordinary Love", "Like A Tattoo", "Cherish The Day", "Kiss Of Life", "Your Love Is King", "Hang Onto Your Love", "Sweetest Taboo", "Is It A Crime", and "Nothing Can Come Between Us". ✨✧ Stevie WonderStevie Wonder's Greatest Hits Vol 2 ... LP
Tamla, 1971. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A sweet set of late 60s groovers – some of Stevie's best work for Motown, and proof that even at a young age, his talents were rich enough to warrant a second volume of greatest hits! Titles hardly need introduction – as the album includes classics like "Heaven Help Us All", "My Cherie Amour", "Shoo Be Doo Be Doo Da Day", "Signed Sealed Delivered", "For Once In My Life", "If You Really Love Me", and "Yester Me, Yester You, Yesterday". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Smokey Robinson & The MiraclesWhat Love Has Joined Together ... LP
Tamla, 1970. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Excellent work by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles – recorded with a super-heavy vibe that's very different than his sweeter 60s work! The record has an amazingly large conception of arrangements – mostly handled by Smokey, and done in a complicated baroque harmony style that points forward towards his later Quiet Storm sound – but which isn't as laidback and compressed. Most tracks are covers, but they're redone fantastically – with better vocals than you could imagine – and titles include "What Love Has Joined Together", "My Cherie Amour", "If This World Were Mine", "This Guy's In Love", and "And I Love Her". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousUnder The Influence Volume 10 – A Collection Of Rare Boogie & Disco Compiled By Rahaan ... LP
Z Records (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
An entry in this excellent series that's very near and dear to our heart – as the cuts here were all chosen by Chicgao DJ Rahaan, who's got a mighty nice ear for a rare clubby groove! The collection explores territory that the previous volumes have hit, but with a special sound that's a nice change too – less of the standard disco or boogie, and some nicely unusual tracks that really change things up, and show just how much fresh creative energy was happening in the underground, way past the bigger labels of the time! Many of these cuts are completely new to our ears, which is really saying a lot in favor of the strength of the collection – and titles include "Ticket" by John Lamkin, "Wanna Get Down With You" by Jaze, "He Loves You" by Wings Of Light, "Let's Get It On" by Marini, "Come & Get It" by Santrax, "Shoot Me With Your Love" by Venus Dodson, "One Of These Days" by The 21st Century Singers, "For You" by Cherish, "Super Disco" by Frank Hatchett Dance Explosion, "Count Of Monte Thisgo" by Ship Of The Desert, "Back Fire" by Time Unlimited, "Juicy Fruit My Love" by Boobie Knight, "Go Down Moses" by Porno Disco, and "Catch Your Glow" by Cousin Ice with Zack Sanders. (Funky Compilations, Soul) LP, Vinyl record album
