Simpletones/Rick L Rick/The CrowdBeach Blvd ... LP
Posh Boy, 1978/1979. Very Good+ ... $39.99
A fantastic collection of work from the legendary Posh Boy label – a short-lived, but crucial imprint on the LA punk scene at the start of the 80s – and a company that was always a lot more hardcore than SST! Posh Boy really had a knack for capturing the short, sharp tunes that marked the LA scene at its best – work with blistering intensity, but also a slight dose of humor – maybe a bit of Ramones influence on the west, but always taken to more insane territory in the long run! Posh Boy gems are hard to come by, but this famous compilation offers up a nice full length document of label artists who didn't get much exposure past 45s – with tracks that include "I Have A Date", "Don't Bother Me", "California", and "Tiger Beat Twist" by The Simpletones; "I Got Power", "Atomic Lawn", "Meat House", and "Black & Red" by Rik L Rik; "Modern Machine", "Suzy Is A Surf Rocker", "Living In Madrid", and "Trix Are For Kids" by The Crowd. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear with bumped corners, partially unglued seam.)

Shin Joong Hyun & Yup JunsShin Joong Hyun & Yup Juns ... LP
Jigu (South Korea), 1974. Near Mint- ... Just Sold Out!
A heady set from mid 70s South Korea – the debut album from a mighty edgey little trio! The album's not nearly as psych as some of the other Korean efforts from the period – as the group's got a tight groove on most numbers, with a definite funk influence on the drums and bass – mixed nicely with heavy use of fuzz guitar, and Shin's weirdly soulful vocals! The set's not really a funk album, but it's not really funky rock either – kind of a unique hybrid, and a very original little set – especially when you throw the oddness of the Korean vocals into the mix. Titles include "Lady", "I Do Not Know", "Rising Sun", "I Love You", "Long Long Night", and "I Think There Was Someone Else". (Global Grooves, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album
(Third pressing of the record, from the 80s – matrix JLS 891.)

Iggy & The StoogesRaw Power ... LP
Columbia, 1973. Very Good+ ... $59.99
One of the wildest records of the early 70s – and it's still pretty darn hard to argue with the power of this one – even if the meddling of the producers are nearly as legendary as the album itself! There's still such a manic energy the original release mix – one that clearly inspired, if not altogether gave birth to the punk scene – and make the album one of those quintessential examples of great art being made under compromising circumstances. Fierceness personified! Includes classics like "Search & Destroy", "Death Trip", "Gimme Danger", "Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell (aka Hard To Beat)", "Raw Power", "Shake Appeal", and "Death Trip". LP, Vinyl record album
(Late 70s UK Embassy pressing with red/white gradiant labels, 1A/2B matrix. Cover has lightly bent corners.)

Van Dyke ParksClang Of The Yankee Reaper ... LP
Warner, 1975. Near Mint- ... $14.99
The last of Van Dyke Parks' classic early trio of albums for Warner Brothers – and possibly the straightest of the bunch! Parks continues the exploration of ersatz Americana explored on his previous two records – but his approach here is sometimes a bit gentler, almost sentimental at times – as if he's been pulled more strongly into the matrix of history and geography that's always informed his work. Production is still great – although not handled by Van Dyke this time around – and instrumentation includes a fair bit of steel drums, showing Parks' continuing love of the form. (He was one of the instrument's biggest mainstream champions in the early 70s.) Titles include "Soul Train", "Cannon In D", "You're A Real Sweetheart", "Another Dream", "Pass That Stage", "City On The Hill", "Iron Man", and "Love Is The Answer". LP, Vinyl record album
(Japanese white label promo, with insert. Cover has a Sample sticker, some ringwear, bumped corners, clear tape over a sticker spot at the top right, and a bit of fraying at the spine.)

Red KrayolaGod Bless The Red Krayola & All Who Sail With It ... LP
International Artists, 1967. Near Mint- ... $139.99
A landmark bit of avant prog psych from the American underground of the late 60s – the astral mindblower that is God Bless The Red Krayola & All Who Sail It! This second album is the group's early masterpiece – a brilliant, jarring psychedelic work of genius! It's got the strangeness of the Parable LP, but Mayo & the boys have a way with strange melody that escaped the earlier album. It's often buried under the astral wierdness and abrasive tendancies, but it nevertheless casts a spooky glow throughout! Tracks inclcude "Ravi Shankar: Parachutist", "Leejol", "Night Song", "Green Of My Pants", "The Jewels Of The Madonna", "Tina's Gone To Have A Baby", "Say Hello To Jamie Jones", and "Coconut Hotel". LP, Vinyl record album
(Second pressing with ACH matrix. Cover has a light water stain on the bottom inch or two, but the rest is superb.)

✨✧ Blues MagoosPsychedelic Lollipop ... LP
Mercury, 1966. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Brilliant garage psych from Blues Magoos – a group that's raw and punchy enough to pummel, but pulled off some sweeter numbers and lighter harmonies incredibly well! Walloping drums, excitable vocals and wailing organ grooves – the cracked the charts, but still bring a fully charged proto punk vibe. Totally excellent, the kind of thing we wish were staples of oldies radio, but for whatever reason are left to deeper rock diggers to discover all these years later. Includes "Sometimes I Think About", "Love Seems Doomed", "Worried Life Blues", "Tobacco Road", "One By One" and "I'll Go Crazy". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mis-labeled stereo pressing with 2/6 matrix and deep groove. In a mono cover with light wear, but looks nice overall.)

✨✧ Steely DanAja ... LP
ABC, 1977. Very Good Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An undisputed masterpiece, and a record we never tire of hearing – unabashedly the inspiration for our years of jazzy exploration as adults, even though it was probably the closest thing we ever got to the genre as wee lads! Walter Becker & Donald Fagan raise their already-high bar to new heights here – creating one of those rare records that flows together so beautifully, it's hard to remember where some songs begin and others end. There's a sense of perfection in everything about the record – the sound, the songs, the instrumentation – all woven together beautifully without any sense of self-consciousness. One majestic flow that starts with "Black Cow", and runs through classics that include "Aja", "Deacon Blues", "Peg", "Home At Last", "I Got The News", and "Josie". LP, Vinyl record album
(70s pressing with AA matrix. Includes the heavy inner sleeve. Cover has light wear.)

✨✧ Clearlight SymphonyClearlight Symphony ... LP
Virgin (France), 1975. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A classic bit of stretched-out spaciness from the early days of Virgin Records – two side-long tracks that are filled with lots of cool keyboards, percussion, and other hip instrumentation! The record's the brainchild of Cyrille Verdeaux – who plays piano, organ, mellotron, and even gong on the set – working with a different group on each side – guitar, vibes, bass, and percussion on side one – and on side two, tenor from Didier Malherbe, guitar from Steve Hillage, and synth from Tim Blake! The sound is a bit too relaxed to be jamming, but definitely has a nice sort of proggish vibe – never sleeping, and always nice and exploratory, even when spacey. LP, Vinyl record album
(70s UK pressing, matrix ending in 2U/3U. Cover looks fantastic, with just a bit of gloss separation on the bottom seam.)

✨✧ Kevin AyersWhatevershebringswesing ... LP
Harvest (UK), 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
One of the most sweetly jazzy albums ever recorded by Kevin Ayers – a set that almost has him moving in the more progressive direction taken by Soft Machine after his departure! As on other solo Ayers albums, David Bedford had a strong hand in the arrangements – but his approach here is more focused, and often more sophisticated than before – less in the playful collaborative style of Ayers immediate post-Soft Machine years, and more in an ambitious style that pushes the elements together with a beautifully honed sound. Players on the album include Mike Oldfield on guitar, Didier Malherbe on sax and flute, Gerry Fields on electric viola, and Bedford on keyboards – and titles include "Oh My", "Margaret", "Song From The Bottom Of A Well", "Lullaby", "Champagne Cowboy Blues", "Stranger In Blue Suede Shoes", and "There Is Loving/Among Us/There Is Loving". ✨✧ Black FlagDamaged ... LP
Unicorn/SST, 1981. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
An unmitigated blast of punk, worthy of setting the stage for the American hard core movement! While punk rock had been firmly established by the time this album came out, no one was prepared for the next level that Black Flag would take things to with this brutal, nihilistic, stripped down assault on the status quo! A classic that will stand up for ages, wit fist in the air anthems like "Rise Above", "Six Pack", "What I See", "TV Party", "Police Story", "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie", "Thirsty & Miserable", "Depression", "Padded Cell", "Damaged I", "Damaged II", "Life Of Pain", "Room 103" and "No More". ✨✧ EggCivil Surface ... LP
Caroline (UK), 1974. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
The third album recorded by British jazz rockers Egg – a set done only after the group had reformed for Virgin Records, and easily their most complicated work to date! By the time of this recording, the members of the core trio – especially keyboardist Dave Stewart – had really honed their skills, and were able to work in a range of jamming, jazzy modes. Much of the focus here is on the instrumentation – especially Stewart's work on organ – and the session adds in extra oboe, bassoon, clarinet, and "germophone" – plus a trio of voices on one number. The sound is progressive without being overindulgent – and titles include "Germ Patrol", "Pielude", "Wind Quartet 1", "Wring Out The Ground Loosely Won", and "Enneagram". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Electric FlagLong Time Comin' ... LP
Columbia, Late 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A wild little record, and one that's got a lot more going on than the usual blues-inspired rock set of the time! Sure, Mike Bloomfield is on guitar, and Barry Goldberg handles keyboards – but the set also features some sitar from Richie Havens, plus moog from Paul Beaver, more guitar from Sivuca, and even a touch of strings – all driven strongly by the drums of Buddy Miles! ✨✧ SeedsWeb Of Sound ... LP
GNP, 1966. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The Seeds are caught in a web of sound on the cover – and the same thing will happen to the listener, too – as the power of this groundbreaking classic reaches out and grabs you right away! The album's not the group's first, but it's definitely the one where everything comes together amazingly – the sneering vocals of Sky Saxon, that hypnotic blend of thin organ and guitar in the grooves, and even the slight use of bottleneck guitar – an early example of taking the instrument to much more way-out territory! The album's got plenty to please both fans of garage and psych, and also has a power that went on to influence generations to come – which you can definitely hear on titles that include "The Farmer", "Rollin Machine", "Just Let Go", "A Faded Picture", "Tripmaker", and the 14 minute jam of "Up In Her Room". ✨✧ DionWonder Where I'm Bound ... LP
Columbia, 1969. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Dion does folk rock – bits of blues, tender balladry, and some sweeping arrangements, too – although folk purists would take a torch to it, of course, the mix of grandly arranged pop with songs from the folk and blues canon is a actually quite his a lot of unselfconscious fun! It's a heck of a fascinating left turn in Dion's career, a decade after his late 50s stardom. The material was recorded in the mid 60s – which makes more sense, given that the 1969 release date was a good few years after the folk rock crossover boom. The folkier numbers were indeed produced by early Dylan producer Tom Wilson, but the grander numbers were arranged by Robert Mersey. Titles include "I Can't Help But Wonder Where I'm Bound", "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue", "Southern Train", "The Seventh Son", "Farewell', "Baby, Please Don't Go" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
