✨✧ Lou ReedWalk On The Wild Side/Perfect Day ... 7-inch
RCA, 1973. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Ok, so it's not the kind of record you'd normally find in a pile of funky 45s – but once Tribe Called Quest called our attention to the great bassline at the beginning, there was no turning back for "Walk On The Wild Side"! "Perfect Day" is nice too – an overlooked number by Lou with a sweet finish, and a really dark center. 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Carlos Toshiki & Omega DriveNatsuko (blue vinyl pressing) ... LP
Warner/Lawson (Japan), 1990. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
The final album from Carlos Toshiki and the Omega Tribe group – a late bit of city pop from a late incarnation of a Japanese pop act with roots that go back to the 70s! The vocals are nicely soulful, but never overdone – and the set features arrangements from Hiroshi Shinkawa that update the sound slightly, with instrumentation that's definitely on the better side of the late 80s spectrum. Lyrics and titles are in Japanese – but some translate as "Automation", Winner", "Our Way", "Baransu", "Natsu No Wana", and "Seeking Dreams". (Japanese, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album

WarlockWarlock ... LP
Music Merchant, 1972. Very Good+ ... $49.99
One of the stranger chapters of the Holland-Dozier-Holland story of the early 70s – and one of the coolest, too! Warlock are a jazzy rock combo with plenty of soul – a bit like a twisted version of Blood Sweat & Tears, but with all the sinister energy you'd guess from the image on the cover! Most of the numbers have a nasty scratchy sort of vocal – almost Alice Cooper-ish, in keeping with the Warlock name of the group – but a few others get a bit more soulful and funky, belying the HDH connection of the group – sometimes even showing a righteous jazzy vibe, as kind of an odd echo of the Detroit Tribe Records scene. The best tracks have some jazzy phrasing in the mix, and let the guitars go off to the side – and titles include "Love Girl", "You've Been My Rock", "So Can Woman", "Thrills Of Love", and the 14 minute jammer "As You Die/Music Box", which almost has a Colosseum build to it! LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing! Cover has a bump in one corner, which also has a light stain on back – but rest is nice, and vinyl is great.)

✨✧ VariousBurning Britain – A Story Of Independent UK Punk 1980 to 1983 (4CD set) ... CD
Cherry Red (UK), Early 1980s. Used 4 CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A great look at the huge second wave of UK punk after the bigger labels were leaving the music behind at the end of the 70s – a bold surge of independent sounds from the underground, including a fair bit of work that was really pushing the boundaries of the music and its politics at the time! Some of these groups are strongly in the spirit of 1977, others are even more radical, and still others are maybe more rough around the edges with an agenda that's a bit hard to figure out – a bit like the way that the LA hardcore scene was changing at the time too. The package provides a huge amount of detail on the moment – a lavish book-style set with pages of notes on the groups and their music, and lots of great images too – all to support a whopping 117 tracks by the likes of Urban Dogs, Anthrax, Anti Pasti, Poison Girls, Cockney Rejects, The Toy Dolls, Blitz, The Ejected, Chelsea, Rudi, GBH, 4 Skins, Charge, Vice Squad, The Mob, UK Subs, Blitzkrieg, The Insane, Damned, Erazerhead, The Samples, Chaotic Dischord, The Adicts, Anti-Nowhere League, Angelic Upstarts, Rabid, Violators, Crash TV, Icons Of Filth, Ultra Violent, Omega Tribe, Subculture, Criminal Justice, and dozens of others! ✨✧ VariousChild Of Nature ... LP
Forager, Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A record with a vibe that's as spare and lonely as the image on the cover – a set that features all sorts of really cool underground and indie tracks from the late 70s and early 80s – not punk or new wave music at all, but instead these really obscure, ethereal tunes that are kind of an unusual extension of the loner folk world of the generation before! Yet the music isn't folk at all – sometimes acoustic, sometimes electric – sometimes with looser song structures, but sometimes an occasional hook – recorded with nice currents of darkness that really make the collection work well together as a whole! Titles include "The Lost Road" by Doria, "Silvery Waterfalls" by Luellen Reese, "Child Of Earth", "Animal Talk" by Dana Alberts, "Child Of Nature" by The Key Of Creek, "Is This What You Like" by Terra, and "The Tribe" by The Fred Bloggs Band. ✨✧ VariousRevenge Of The She Punks – Compilation Inspired By The Book By Vivien Goldman ... CD
Tapete (Germany), Late 70s/1980s. New Copy 2CDs ... Out Of Stock
A great collection of material that showcases the contributions of female artists in the underground, from the punk years onward – all put together by author Vivien Goldman, who was a big part of that underground at the time! Vivien was partly an artist, but mostly a music journalist – and had ties with many different groups and singers on the UK scene – a good number of whom are included here, alongside American acts, both big and small – in a wonderful collection that's designed to accompany her book of the same name! There's been other sets like this before, but this may well be one of the best we've ever seen – as it features a massive 28 tracks in all, with work from Cherry Vanilla, Crass, Fertil Miseria, The Bags, X Ray Spex, Zuby Nehty, Mo-Dettes, The Selecter, Patti Smith, Tribe 8, Skinny Girl Diet, Big Joanie, Malaria, The Slits, Bush Tetras, Grace Jones, Tanya Stephens, Au Pairs, Neneh Cherry, Sleater Kinney, and even Goldman herself. Thin LizzyShades Of A Blue Orphanage ... LP
Decca (UK), 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $29.99
Wonderful work from the early Thin Lizzy trio lineup – a record that has all the power of their later records, but which also mixes in some airier moments that really help shape the sound! These guys are already setting themselves apart from their psych or blues rock predecessors – thanks to Phil Lynott's wonderful vocals and unique approach to a tune – which gives the record loads of great moments that don't always get their due! Titles include "The Rise And Dear Demise Of The Funky Nomadic Tribes", "Sarah", "Brought Down", "Chatting Today", and "Shades Of A Blue Orphanage". LP, Vinyl record album
(180 gram Future Days reissue fron 2015, with obi and insert. Obi is bent at about 3 inches from the bottom.)
