✨✧ Pink FloydWish You Were Here ... CD
Columbia, 1975. Used ... $5.99
A seminal set from 70s Pink Floyd – a set that took all the energy of Dark Side Of The Moon, and refined it into an even more complex sonic setting! The songs here move out spaciously – still very unified as an overall album, but often with all of these longer-form musical ideas, and mature textural elements that really show the progression the group had made in just a few short years – almost as if they were revisiting the open-ended feel of their immediate records after the departure of Syd Barrett – but with a massive amount of new information about the possibilities of the recording studio, and their own skills as musicians. The whole thing's wonderful – always taken better as a whole than in just small slices – and titles include "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", "Welcome To The Machine", "Have A Cigar", and "Wish You Were Here". ✨✧ Pink FloydSaucerful Of Secrets ... CD
EMI, 1968. Used ... Out Of Stock
Pink Floyd rose out of the same London scene that gave the world a huge amount of psychedelic records in the late 60s – but with a set like this, they're clearly head and shoulders above most of their contemporaries – already working with a boundless sense of imagination and impeccable instrumentation, on a record that's full of delight and surprise at every single twist and turn! The group still sport Syd Barrett vocals and lyrics here, but are also really opening up their guitar spaceship too – soaring to the heavens on the tremendous "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" – and sending the whole thing home with the cuts "Let There Be More Light", "Corporal Clegg", "Jugband Blues", "See Saw", and "A Saucerful Of Secrets". ✨✧ Pink FloydPiper At The Gates Of Dawn ... CD
EMI, 1967. Used ... Out Of Stock
A brilliant bit of psychedelia – still as fresh today as it was many decades back – and the crowning achievement of Pink Floyd during the early Syd Barrett years! The album's got all the best elements of the group firmly in place – the penchant for long-jamming tracks that still manage to always maintain a sharp edge – mixed with some of the wittier, more playful lyrics that Barrett brought to the group – all wrapped up with a sense of depth and darkness that goes way beyond most of their contemporaries. The record's a masterpiece through and through – from its first guitar-heavy jam on "Astronomy Domine", through the strutting, vamping madness of "Bike" – all up and down other gems that include "Lucifer Sam", "The Gnome", "Take Up Thy Stethoscope & Walk", "Interstellar Overdrive", "Chapter 24", and "The Scarecrow". ✨✧ Syd BarrettBarrett ... CD
EMI/Capitol, 1970. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A sublime second solo effort from Syd Barrett – and maybe his most perfectly-formed album ever! There's a sinister balance to the record right from the start – a gentle approach to the offbeat themes that is almost more unsettling than if the matter was undertaken more forcefully – weird little bits just tossed off by Syd as if they're really the ramblings of the madman promised on the cover of his first LP – almost with a deadpan quality that makes the whole thing even more unsettling with repeated listenings! Instrumentation is relatively lean – almost a folksy mix of acoustic guitar, electric, sullen bass, and some haunting keyboards – all as if someone picked apart Pink Floyd, then started to construct a rough sketch from the parts that lay scattered on the floor. The album's had an influence from psych through punk and many years beyond – and titles include "Baby Lemonade", "Gigolo Aunt", "Wolfpack", "Effervescing Elephant", "Winde & Dined", "Rats", and "It Is Obvious". CD

✨✧ HawkwindIn Search Of Space (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
United Artists/Liberty (Japan), 1972. Used ... Out Of Stock
Classic space rock from Hawkwind – a gem from the early years of the legendary group – with long cuts in a proggier, stranger realm than some the more hard rocking records to come! In Search Of Space really sets a mood, with the trippy guitars and overall astral strangeness, and the vocals at this point are indebted to early Pink Floyd – and that is not a complaint! Great stuff! "Master Of The Universe", "Adjust Me", "Children Of The Sun", "You Shouldn't Do That", and "You Know You're Only Dreaming". CD
(Out of print 2010 SHM-CD pressing – includes obi. In the split front fold-out cover, just like the original LP!)

✨✧ Blossom ToesWe Are Ever So Clean (LP style sleeve) ... CD
Sunbeam (UK), 1967. Used Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
One of the key records that helped the British scene leap forward in the mid 60s – even if the group never fully got their due at the tome! This set by Blossom Toes has gone on to become the stuff of legend – a record that fully embraced, the headiest psych modes of the period, but also delivered things with a unique vibe and quality level that really sets the record apart – putting it an elite space that would include debut albums from Pink Floyd and Tomorrow! The group are led by the incredible Brian Godding – a hell of a singer, and one whose voice is perfectly tuned to the offbeat production that really makes the whole thing sparkle – as does the fantastic work on guitar. There's some larger arrangements on the set at time, but they only seem to augment the genius at the core – on titles that include "Look AT Me I'm You", "The Remarkable Saga Of The Frozen Dog", "People Of The Royal Parks", "What On Earth", "The Intrepid Balloonists Handbook Vol 1", "You", and "Mrs Murphy's Budgerigar". ✨✧ Alice CooperPretties For You ... CD
Enigma Retro/Rhino, 1969. Used ... Out Of Stock
Pre-shock rock psychedelia from Alice Cooper – more of a Detroit-reared answer to early Pink Floyd than it is a clue to the early metal horror show to come – and a record that stands stunningly well on its own! Since most people never even heard Pretties For You until long after Alice became a notorious rock star – which has made it unfairly judged in most circles – because if you enter it fresh, and take it for what it is, the whole thing's an incredible record that stands with some of the more revolutionary British albums of the late 60s. We hear rare psychedelia by the bucketful that's not nearly as good as this album, but which celebrated by rare psych diggers purely for its obscurity – and the overall presentation and performance is right up there with some of the coolest material on Harvest or Vertigo. Titles include "10 Minutes Before The Worm", "Sing Low Sweet Cheerio", "Reflected", "Apple Bush", "Earwigs To Eternity", "Titanic Overture", and "No Longer Umpire". CD

✨✧ Anthony MooreFlying Doesn't Help ... CD
Blueprint (UK), 1979. Used ... Out Of Stock
Really striking solo work from Anthony Moore – especially when you consider that he began his career serving up art work in Slapp Happy and Henry Cow, then later collaborated a bit with Pink Floyd in the 80s! Yet here, Moore's in stark, dark territory that's really telegraphed by the cover image – a bit post-punk, but maybe more in the style of the New York downtown scene than you'd guess from Anthony's work on the UK scene – tunes that are well-penned enough to be catchy, but full of all sorts of jagged edges on the guitars – and delivered with a stripped-down vibe that's hardly art rock at all – save maybe for the sound of the more art-driven underground of the NYC scene. At the same time, there's also maybe a bit of a Swell Maps spirit going on here – but only in the way that makes the music so much more individual than so much of its company at the time. Titles include "Time Less Strange", "War", "Just Us", "Caught Being In Love", "Judy Get Down", "Ready Ready", and "Useless Moments". CD
