✨✧ CharlieNo Second Chance ... LP
Janus, 1977. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
The cover looks cheesy, but the record's a great one for prog fans – a cool evolution of the early 70s mode into the more compressed style that Yes would hit with Trevor Horn, or Asia would unfurl in the 80s! The group features Terry Thomas on guitars and vocals, John Anderson on bass and vocals – often nicely doubled in a Jon Anderson way – with more guitars from Martin Smith, keyboards from Julian Colbeck, and drums from Steve Gadd – not the famous jazz drummer, but equally nice! There's a nice sense of compression in the production – almost 10CC – but the quirkiness of the songs also resonates with some of the Phil Manzanera solo work of the time. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ FallRough Trade Singles ... LP
Rough Trade/Superior Viaduct, Early 80s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic early work from The Fall – some key singles issued by the Rough Trade label as 45s during the first few years of the group – already a great showcase for the mad wit of Mark E Smith! While we love the albums from this time, these singles are maybe the songs we go back to again and again – as they sometimes have surprisingly catchy hooks, even while maintaining an edge – and often resonate with that Smith sense of humor that sometimes takes a few listens to pick up on! Tracks include "Totally Wired", "Putta Block", "How I Wrote Elastic Man", "City Hobgoblins", "The Man Whose Head Expanded", "Ludd Gang", "Kicker Conspiracy", "Wings", "Container Drivers", and "New Puritan". ✨✧ SmithGroup Called Smith ... LP
ABC/Dunhill, 1969. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A groovy little group from the end of the 60s – one who've got a sound that's maybe more in the mode of what you might expect to find in a small club on the Sunset Strip – as Smith have a way of taking hits by other groups, and turning them into songs that are all their own – thanks to a tight little blend of organ, guitar, bass, and drums – often topped with the lead vocals of Gayle McCormick! Gayle later recorded a few solo albums on her own – and she's a great singer with a richly soulful style – one that should have made her huge in the generation of contemporaries like Janis Joplin. There's also a male singer in the group, so the leads get alternated – and the tunes also have some larger production touches from arranger Jimmy Haskell. Titles include "Who Do You Love", "Last Time", "Let's Spend The Night Together", "Baby It's You", "Let's Get Together", "Who Do You Love", and "Tell Him No". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the Dunhill inner sleeve. Cover has light wear and a small cutout hole.)
