✨✧ David BowieYoung Americans ... LP
RCA, 1975. Very Good ... $19.99
A brilliant soul album! That's right, we said SOUL album! Bowie was at the height of his Ziggy Stardust fame when this one was recorded – a drastic left-turn in styles, forged during a point in his American tour when he could take a break, head to Philly, plug in at the Sigma Sound Studios, and come up with some fantastic little soul tunes, thanks to help from Luther Vandross! The album sparkles with the best sound of Luther's early work – and you'll hear more than a bit of Luther's work on his own, and his tunes with Gregg Diamond on the set. Features the sublime tracks "Win", "Fascination", "Right", "Somebody Up There Likes Me", and "Can You Hear Me" – as well as the hits "Young Americans" and "Fame". LP, Vinyl record album
(Tan label pressing in the textured cover. Includes the printed inner sleeve, with tears in the top edge. Cover has some surface wear, edge wear, and small splits in the seams and spine.)
Also available Young Americans (180 gram pressing) ... LP 22.99

Tommy Boyce & Bobby HartI Wonder What She's Doing Tonite ... LP
A&M, Late 60s. Near Mint- ... $16.99
Brilliant 60s pop from the team of Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart – best known for their key early songwriting work for The Monkees, but a heck of a great duo on their own! Boyce & Hart have a sparkly, sunshiney sound that's very much a part of The Monkees generation – a beautiful post-folk, post-surf blend of styles, and one that's served up with all the warmth and charm that made The Monkees so great – yet also with some cool twists and turns that make a record like this so great – the kind of chance-taking that A&M sometimes allowed its artists to take at the time! Backings are super-groovy – arranged by Artie Butler and Don McGinis – and titles include "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonite", "Teardrop City", "I Wanna Be Free", "The Countess", "Population", and "Two For The Price Of One" – a great cover of a Larry Williams & Johnny Watson soul tune! LP, Vinyl record album
(Brown label stereo pressing. Includes the A&M inner sleeve. Vinyl is nice. Cover has spotty aging, light wear, and a cutout hole.)

Jose FelicianoFireworks ... LP
RCA, 1970. Very Good+ ... $2.99
Classic work by Jose in the style he forged in LA at the end of the 60s – a mix of 60s pop and soul with that wonderful Latin style he used, the one that made his vocals and guitar cry slightly with the rhythms, taking conventional and familiar songs, and opening them up in a whole new way, with a depth that's quite unexpected! Titles include "Destiny", "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window", "Blackbird", "Once There Was A Love", "Susie Q", "Yesterday", and "Pegao". LP, Vinyl record album
(Orange label pressing in the textured cover, with a few light stains. Includes the insert.)

RedbonePotlatch ... LP
Epic, 1970. Near Mint- ... Just Sold Out!
A killer album from Redbone – one that has the group really hitting on all burners – using that strongly solid groove that Pat and Lolly Vegas first forged through years on the west coast club scene, and turning it into a more powerful message that made the group such a top-shelf act at the time! And sure, most folks remember Redbone as being a crucial first nation group – but there's a quality to the music here that instantly pushes them into competition with the best of the mainstream too – a sharp, soulful sound that comes on strong right from the start – on tunes that include "Without Reservation", "Maggie", "Light As A Feather", "Drinkin & Blo", "Bad News Ain't No News At All", and "Alcatraz". LP, Vinyl record album
(Yellow label pressing. Cover has light wear.)

Mitch RyderAll The Heavy Hits Of Mitch Ryder ... LP
Crewe, Late 60s. Near Mint- ... $9.99
An excellent array of early Mitch Ryder work – all arranged and produced by Bob Crew, with a nicely sock-soul sound! Titles include "Sock It To Me Baby", "Devil With The Blue Dress On", "Good Golly Miss Molly", "Jenny Take A Ride", "Little Latin Lupe Lu", "Come See About Me", and "Three Little Fishes". SugarloafSugarloaf ... LP
Liberty, 1970. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $19.99
A fantastic debut from Sugarloaf – a group who managed to use the Hammond organ in ways that were just as strong as the guitar in most other groups! The approach here seems to draw a lot from all the best changes taking place in soulful jazz – as Jerry Corbetta manages his keyboards with this lean quality that's wonderful, and balanced with the bass, drums, and guitar in this perfect way – almost funky at many moments, and still pretty damn sharp even if not! You'll probably know that quality from the group's classic hit "Green Eyed Lady" – but it really shines through on the whole album, on titles that include "Bach Doors Man", "Chest Fever", "Things Gonna Change Soon", and "Train Kept A Rollin". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing with centered artist/title labels. Cover has light wear and some yellowing from age.)

✨✧ Spiral StarecaseMore Today Than Yesterday ... LP
Columbia, 1969. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A real treasure of sweet harmony pop from the late 60s – and the kind of record that broke big on the blue-eyed soul scene! The title hit – "More Today Than Yesterday" – is a familiar number that still sounds great to our ears. And the rest of the records got a similarly great style – arranged by Al Capps with some warm and jazzy undertones – a bit like Sunshine Pop of the time, but with styles that also seem to borrow a lot from late 60s Philly soul. Titles include "Sweet Little Thing", "More Today Than Yesterday", "The Thought Of Loving You", "Since I Don't Have You", "Our Day Will Come", and "Broken-Hearted Man". LP, Vinyl record album
(360 Sound stereo pressing – 1A/1B. Cover is bumped at the top right corner.)

Danny CoxBirth Announcement ... LP
Together Records, 1969. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... $6.99 11.99
Very weird bit of stoner rock with a slight soul edge, and kind of a rock version of the Isaac Hayes baroque approach to pop covers. Danny Cox performs a number of Dylan and Beatles tunes – like "Dear Prudence", "My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Baby Blue", "Hey Jude", "Just Like A Woman", and "Day In The Life" – all with small group backing on guitars and steel guitar, and kind of a "back to the country" rock approach. Not really a soul record, or really our bag, but an obscure oddity, and produced and arranged by Gary Usher. (Soul, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

Spooky ToothTobacco Road (aka Spooky Tooth) ... LP
A&M, 1968. Near Mint- ... $19.99
70s issue of this masterpiece of psychedelic pop – a set that really captures that key shift from R&B-influenced sounds to much headier territory on the UK scene! Spooky Tooth came to this debut with a fair bit of previous activity in other groups – and there's a core energy here that still holds onto the soul-influenced grooves of the mod scene – which makes for some romping cuts that are almost freakbeat tunes, but which are twisted nicely with some fuzzier production and longer-haired expressions! The vocals have a nice undercurrent of soul – unabashedly powerful, but years before such a style would sound cliche – and the drums, bass, and guitar leap into the fray with equally wonderful energy. The approach is a bit like Procol Harum at the start, but more individual – and titles include "Too Much Of Nothing", "Society's Child", "Bubbles", "Forget It I Got It", "It Hurts You So", "Sunshine Help Me", and "Love Really Changed Me". LP, Vinyl record album
(Brown label stereo pressing. Cover has light wear.)

✨✧ Van Morrison & Joey DeFrancescoYou're Driving Me Crazy ... LP
Legacy, 2018. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A mighty nice pairing of talents – the great Van Morrison, working here in a soul jazz setting with plenty of work on Hammond from the equally great Joey DeFrancesco! The album's a lot like the one that Van cut with Georgie Fame years back – and with all that organ, the sound is a bit like Fame's work of the 60s – much more in a soul jazz mode than any of Morrison's work from his early years, and a great setting for his mature vocals – which still have all the charm of before, but have maybe changed in a way that suits a jazz setting more than the albums of his early solo years. The group's also got some strong tenor from Troy Roberts, and Joey plays some trumpet too – on titles that include "Celtic Swing", "Sticks & Stones", "Close Enough For Jazz", "Goldfish Bowl", "Have I Told You Lately", "All Saint's Day", "Hold It Right There", "Miss Otis Regrets", and "Magic Time". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Toad HallToad Hall ... LP
Liberty, 1968. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A very cool set on Liberty – oddly produced by George Goldner, of NYC soul/doo wop/Latin fame! Most tracks are written by the group's Tommy Marcus, who also arranged – and titles include "It Feels Like Friday", "Mr Zig Zag", "A Thousand Years", "Elegy On A Brick Wall", "Christopher Street Story", and "Third Story Window Ledge". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing. Top right corner of cover has a tiny bump – but this is a great copy!)

✨✧ Deirdre Wilson TabacDeirdre Wilson Tabac ... LP
RCA, 1970. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A beautiful bit of funky rocking soul – and the one and only album by the Deirdre Wilson Tabac – a group whose name is as strange as their grooves are funky! The group are best known for their well-compiled track "I Can't Keep From Cryin Sometimes" – an uptempo jazzy gem that mixes skipping Hammond with soaring vocals and some really great horns – and the rest of this set has a very similar feel – one that blends jazz rock with more soulful vocals, in a groove that's totally unique! Sonny Casella wrote, arranged, and produced the record – and he's also the drummer in the group, so there's keen attention to rhythms on all tracks. Titles include "I Can't Keep From Cryin", "Magic One", "I Go To You", "Other Side Of Life", "Angel Baby", "Get Back", "The Last Thing On His Mind", and "Let's All Join Together". (Soul, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited UK Be With reissue from 2018. Cover is bumped at the top right corner.)

✨✧ A Certain RatioI'd Like To See You Again ... LP
Factory (UK), 1982. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A pivotal album for post-punk legends A Certain Ratio – done at a time when the group was really putting a lot of funk and soul into their style – learning to play their instruments a bit more like the soul artists who inspired them, and acting less like the punk musicians they first appeared to be. The change actually makes for a pretty darn nice album – a record of smoother than usual instrumental sides that have some more straight ahead rhythms than before, but still enough darkly-tinged moments to keep things interesting. Titles include "Touch", "Saturn", "Hot Knights", "Sesamo Apriti Corco Vada", "Axis", "Guess Who" and "Show Case". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light edge wear.)
