Creedence Clearwater RevivalWilly & The Poor Boys ... LP
Fantasy, 1969. Very Good- ... $24.99
It's hard to get any more classic than this for Creedence Clearwater Revival – as this legendary late 60s album is definitely the place where it all comes together! The pairing of John Fogerty's lead guitar and the scratching rhythm guitar of brother Tom really sounds wonderful here – driven on by tight bass and drums, but always with this rootsy edge that stretches from the Bay Area scene way down to the bayou! Titles include the classic "Down On The Corner" and a great version of "The Midnight Special" – plus "It Came Out Of The Sky", "Side Of The Road", "Effigy", "Don't Look Now", and "Fortunate Son". LP, Vinyl record album
(Blue label pressing. Cover has ringwear, heavy edge wear, half split top seam, mostly split spine, and wide center split in the bottom seam.)
Also available Willy & The Poor Boys (180 gram pressing – half speed master) ... LP 24.99

Debbie HarryKookoo ... LP
Chrysalis, 1981. Near Mint- ... $6.99
A nice change in sound for Debbie Harry – thanks to Chic production from Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards – who really help the solo singer find a groove that's quite different than her work in Blondie! The style's a mixture of the funky club that Chic did so well, with elements that lean a bit more towards an early 80s rockish dancefloor – almost with a vibe that echoes some of the UK imports trickling over to these shores at the time, but with a definite New York vibe underneath! The setting gives Harry's vocals a great way to hit a more playful nature – that sound that was creeping in a bit in Blondie, but which some folks thought was wrong for the group – and Chris Stein is still on hand to bring in some street-sensitive riffing guitar. Titles include "Backfired", "Military Rap", "Oasis", "Surrender", "Chrome", "Jump Jump", and "The Jam Was Moving". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a cut corner.)

Mamie Van DorenMamie Van Doren – The Girl Who Invented Rock & Roll ... LP
Rhino, Late 50s. Sealed ... $14.99
Well, we'd be hard-pressed to say that Mamie Van Doren invented rock music – but her sexy work on screen in the 50s was definitely a part of that generation's aesthetic – as you'll hear here in a selection of songs from the films Beat Generation, Teacher's Pet, Born Reckless, and Untamed Youth! Think of her music as a vocal equivalent of a pulp paperback – and you're halfway there. (Vocalists, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album
(80s pressing. Cover has a cutout notch.)

Frank ZappaZappa In New York ... LP
DiscReet, 1977. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... $24.99
Frank Zappa live in the 70s – working with a surprisingly hip large ensemble, with all the sharp changes and unusual moments of his classic studio albums! Like some of Zappa's other concert performances, there's an approach that steps a few years back – clearly to please the group coming to hear their favorites, but in a way that also offers up a nice sharpening-up of the music too – especially given that the whole thing's happening live on stage! There's some great jazz help here – horns from The Brecker Brothers, Lou Marini, Ronnie Cuber, and Tom Malone – plus wonderful vibes from Dave Samuels and keyboards from Eddie Jobson – and even a bit of narration from Don Pardo. Titles include "I'm The Slime", "Titties & Beer", "Cruisin For Burgers", "The Illinois Enema Bandit", "Punky's Whips", "Big Leg Emma", and "Sofa". LP, Vinyl record album
(Censored version – without "Punky's Whips".)

✨✧ Mamas & PapasDeliver ... LP
Dunhill, 1967. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Wonderfully dark harmonies from The Mamas & The Papas – one of those amazing late 60s albums from the group that was pop on the outside, but something very else underneath – a wonderful blend of modes that was hardly duplicated this well again! There's a slightly spooky feel to some of the music – even their leadoff cover of "Dedicated To The One I Love", which has an eerie quality that's way different than any previous readings – possibly a hint of the trouble between the group members – although maybe that's reading too much into it! Whatever the case, though – there's a special magic here that goes way beyond any understanding of the group you may have from oldies radio, and the set features some great original compositions by the young John Phillips too. Titles include "Creeque Alley", "Boys & Girls Together", "Look Through My Window", "Sing For Your Supper", "Free Advice", "Did You Ever Want To Cry", and "String Man". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing, in a Gold Record cover, with a small cutout hole.)

✨✧ We FiveMake Someone Happy ... LP
A&M, 1967. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Sublime sounds from We Five – and a record that really takes the group past the pop styles of their debut! There's some nicely sinister echoes of the San Francisco scene going on here – more electric guitar than previously, used in edgey ways – and this more "arch" style on the female vocals from Bev Bevins – almost a slight Grace Slick aspect creeping in at the bottom. These elements are subtle, but really transform the sound of the record – and titles include "The First Time", "Our Day Will Come", "What's Goin On", "Poet", "You Let A Love Burn Out", "What Do I Do Now", and "High Flying Bird". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing.)

✨✧ Frank Zappa & The MothersOver-Nite Sensation ... LP
DiscReet, 1973. Very Good- Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of Frank Zappa's biggest-selling albums of the early 70s and it's also one of his best ever! Over-Nite Sensation finds Zappa's leftfield weirdness and sly social satire at play within adventurous, but accessible arrangements. It's got some early fusiony rock bits paired with heavy drums and muscular rock riffs – and it's a hell of a great sound! The songs themselves are sharp here, too. If forced to make a list of favorite Zappa songs, it'd certainly include "Camarillo Brillo", which kicks this record off – and other titles include "I'm The Slime", "Montana", "Dinah-Moe Humm", "Zomby Woof", and "Dirty Love". Features keyboards from George Duke and violin from Jean Luc Ponty – plus horns by Ian Underwood, Sal Marquez, Tom Fowler and Bruce Fowler – plus percussion by Ruth Underwood and amazing drums by Ralph Humphrey. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

✨✧ Thomas DolbyFlat Earth ... LP
Capitol, 1984. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
An overlooked early 80s gem from Thomas Dolby – a beautifully mellow album that comes across with less of the quirky pop touches of his earlier work! The Dolby heard here is almost in an Eno/Green World mode – mixing electronics with evocative lyrics – at a level that's a few notches up from soundscape mode, but which is also as concerned with the overall colors and shapes of the music as it is with the lyrics. But the lyrics themselves are the biggest surprise – often quite personal and intimate, with a Prefab Sprout-esque pop quality from time to time, but stronger soul qualities overall. And to our groove-tuned ears, Dolby's electronics here are really a cut above – echoing with some electro styles, but also in a more sophisticated mode that transforms Kraftwerk into more effective pop. Titles include "Dissidents", "The Flat Earth", "Screen Kiss", "White City", "Mulu The Rain Forest", "I Scare Myself", and "Hyperactive". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

✨✧ SagittariusPresent Tense ... LP
Columbia, Late 60s. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
A wonderful post-Millenium project from godlike California producers Gary Usher and Curt Boettcher – working together here as Sagittarius, and getting help from a whole host of LA hipsters too! The work has a dreamy Sunshine Pop vibe all the way through – even more gentle and personal than Millenium, with a quality that we might well rank up there with Roger Nichols & The Small Circle of Friends – done with a similar echoey vocal approach that's wrapped around some great little songs that you'll be humming long after the album is over! Titles include "Hotel Indiscreet", "My World Fell Down", "The Keeper Of The Games", "Another Time", "Song to The Magic Frog", "Would You Like To Go", and "I'm Not Living Here". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original 360 sound stereo pressing! In a cover with a promo track list sticker on the front, and a few small bits of tape at the bottom.)
