Creedence Clearwater RevivalCreedence Clearwater Revival (40th Anniversary Edition – with bonus tracks) ... CD
Fantasy, 1968. Used ... $6.99
The stunning debut of CCR – a record that still burns with an undeniable fire after all these years! Sure, all the elements here have been copped by many – the fuzzy guitar, lean bluesy groove, and raw soul-inspired vocals of John Fogerty – but the way the group puts them together is tremendous – and there's a lean, raw vibe to the whole record that instantly communicates the urgency the group's music had back in the second half of the 60s! Even the group's take on other artists' songs never sound dated at all – and taken together, the mix of material on the record is even greater than the sum of its parts – with a power that punches more than any of these songs on their own. The whole thing's also a great testament to Fogerty's guitar skills too – with some raw solos that blow away most of the blues rock pretenders of the period – on titles that include "Get Down Woman", "The Working Man", "Gloomy", "Walking On The Water", "Ninety Nine & A Half", "Porterville", and "Susie Q". CD

BandBand (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Capitol, 1969. Used ... $4.99
Maybe not the first album from the legendary Band – but a record in which the group get everything completely right all the way through – and sparkle with that special sound that continues to influence generations of music makers, and music lovers! All the great elements the group were bringing to their work with Bob Dylan are in place here – but the focus is completely different, with this warm glow that really fits the vocals of Levon Helm, and a sense of unified vision that makes it really hard to even come up with a match for the energy of the group on this album. The great John Simon adds a few special touches to the overall sound – and titles include "Rockin Chair", "Across The Great Divide", "When You Awake", "Up On Cripple Creek", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", "Look Out Cleveland", and "King Harvest". Includes 7 bonus tracks. CD
(Includes 7 alternate takes.)

BandLast Waltz ... CD
Warner, 1978. Used 2 CDs ... $6.99
One of the most iconic rock and roll shows of all time – the late 70s farewell to The Band – and quite famously, much more than a final concert by an esteemed band, it's actually a rock, pop, folk, blues and soul summit that features The Band as the house band. This landmark document of the event has always been one of rock's more opulent releases – with appearances by Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Dr. John, The Staples and more. Includes "The From The Last Waltz", "Up On Cripple Creek", "The Shape I'm In", "Down In South New Orleans" with Bobby Charles, "Forever Young" with Bob Dylan, "I Shall Be Released (Finale)", "Rag Mama Rag", "Further Up The Road" with Eric Clapton, "Dry Your Eyes" with Eric Clapton, "Evangeline" with Emmylou Harris, "The Weight" with The Staples and more. Procol HarumSalty Dog (Original Master Recording) ... CD
A&M/Mobile Fidelity, 1969. Used ... $24.99
Maybe our favorite album from Procol Harum – a set that adds in some wonderful use of strings to the group's unique style – almost moving forward on the promise of the earlier single "Whiter Shade Of Pale", moving into much deeper territory overall! There's something about Procol Harum on their early album's that's really indescribable – certainly an influence from blues and roots, but this really striking step forward with their song ideas and overall construction – not into jamming or progressive modes, like some of their contemporaries – although they're certainly never afraid to rock – but almost this balance between personal poetry and brashness, with kind of a slightly creepy current at times – as illustrated beautifully by the image on the cover. Titles include the completely wonderful "A Salty Dog", p0lus "Wreck Of The Hesperus", "Boredom", "The Devil Came To Kansas", "Too Much Between Us", "All This & More", and "The Milk Of Human Kindness". ✨✧ David BowieAladdin Sane ... CD
Virgin, 1973. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of our favorite David Bowie albums ever! Aladdin Sane was a real turning point for Bowie – recorded on the heels of the tremendously popular Ziggy Stardust album, but really pushing the boundaries past the more straight-ahead rock and glam of that record. Instead of just sitting on his laurels, Bowie tripped out into a wilder, weirder world with this one – mixing together elements of some of the baroque arrangements of early records, with the meaner leaner sound of the 70s – populating the songs with freaks, weirdos, and odd characters that gave the whole thing a really creepy edge. The whole thing's an oft-overlooked gem that, to us, is truly one of Bowie's most magical moments – and titles include "Drive In Saturday", "Panic In Detroit", "Aladdin Sane", "Watch That Man", "The Jean Genie", "The Prettiest Star", "Time", and "Lady Grinning Soul". CD
