Brenda Patterson's a hell of a singer – one who emerged from the Memphis scene of the late 60s, and who clearly draws heavily from the soul and blues legacy of that famous southern city! Yet the music isn't slavish to its influences, either – as with some of the hipper Bay Area talents of the time, Patterson's definitely finding a way to craft her own groove – one that gets some especially great help here from Redbone, who are the backup group on the record, and who play with even more soulful currents than on their own great records of the time!
