✨✧ Black UhuruShowcase ... LP
Taxi (Jamaica), 1979. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Early Black Uhuru sides, in between the Black Sounds OF Freedom LP they cut with Prince Jammy and their later LPs for Island, these are the first recordings they did with Sly & Robbie, a team with whom they'd go on to much greater success with later. Still, we find ourselves coming back to these mighty tracks again and again, some of our all time favorites. 6 tracks in all, in nice extended versions, most clocking in around 7 minutes: "Leaving To Zion", "General Penitentiary", "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?", "Abortion", "Natural Reggae Beat" and "Plastic Smile". LP, Vinyl record album
(Jamaican pressing with white labels and black text. Vinyl has a press flaw that clicks a bit on "Plastic Smile". Cover has a small tape spot on back.)

Jimmy RileyRydim Driven (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Taxi/Music On Vinyl (Netherlands), 1981. New Copy (reissue)... $26.99 28.98
Jimmy Riley's definitely rhythm-driven here – given that the set was issued on the Sly & Robbie label Taxi, and also produced by the heavy rhythm duo themselves! Yet Jimmy's also the main star too – singing here with righteous, uplifting vocals that are very much in the best Island Records mode from a few years before – which, combined with the strong backings on the set, should have made this album as much of a runaway classic as work by Peter Tosh or Jimmy Cliff! Titles include a lot of great remakes of American soul cuts – like "I Wish It Would Rain", "My Woman's Love", "You'll Lose A Precious Love", "The Choking Kind", "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me", and "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" – plus original tunes "Give Me Your Love", "I Try", and "Delicious". LP, Vinyl record album
(40th Anniversary pressing – on 180 gram vinyl!)

The follow up to the burning Showcase set and second LP finding the harmony trio of Michael Rose, Puma Jones and Duckie Simpson under the heavy guidance of Sly & Robbie. While it didn't produce as many singular hits as the preceding set or the following Red LP, this album's still solid from top to bottom, with mighty, might Taxi productions grooves throughout. 10 tracks in all: "Happiness", 'World Is Africa", "Push Push", "There Is Fire", "No Loafing (Sit & Wonder)", "Sinsemilla", "Endurance", and "Vampire". CD
