A rare side from Keith Hudson, teaming up with Bullwackie Barnes for a mighty set – two of our favorite producers in one place – and one that's been painfully hard to come by for some time. Issued originally on the Joint International imprint in the early 80s, we can't remember the last time we came across a copy of this set, featuring deep space dub mixes, with gut rumbling bass and murky reverb following hot on the heels of their vocal accompaniment, voiced by Wayne Jarrett, the Lovejoys and Hudson himself. A set that might well also be titled "the birth of reggae" – as it pulls together some of the harder-edged cuts that were really starting to get the music going on the UK scene at the end of the 60s – work that had a leaner, meaner vibe than rocksteady and ska – with a slight uptick in the rhythms, and maybe a more sinister approach to the music overall!
