✨✧ Gladstone AndersonIt May Sound Silly ... LP
Ashanti (UK), 1972. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of our favorite early 70s Harry Mudie sides, filled with moody instrumental soul reggae numbers from pianist Gladstone Anderson! The sound is great – done with a wonderful rolling soulful vibe that wouldn't be out of place on Brunswick or Cadet soul single from Chicago – and the album grooves along nicely with some sophisticated, soulful arrangements laid over top some easy skanking Jamaican grooves! If you're hip to Jackie Mittoo's funky burning organ, you need to get down with Gladdy's mellow groovin' piano! 10 tracks in all, including "It May Sound Silly", "Portrait Of Inga", "Reggae Delight", "Feel Like Dancing", "Leaving Rome" and "Crazy Skank". LP, Vinyl record album
(Jamaican orange M label pressing on Moodisc, with deep groove! Vinyl is very nice, but has a short click on side two. Cover has light staining in one corner, and some light scratches too.)

✨✧ Ken BootheMr Rock Steady ... LP
Studio One, 1967. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
That's MISTER Rock Steady to you! Ken sings a sweet batch of Jamaican soul tunes in this classic album cut for Clement Dodd – with titles that include "Puppet On A String", "My Heart Is Gone", "Home Home Home", "Give Me Back My Heart", "Give Me The Right", "The Girl I Left Behind", and "Rock Steady". LP, Vinyl record album
(Early pressing – with red Studio One logo and deep groove! Cover has very light wear on the opening edge – but is quite nice overall.)

✨✧ GladiatorsPresenting The Gladiators (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Studio One, Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Essential work from The Gladiators – exactly the kind of group that did so well in the early Studio One approach! The group are in a familiar mode – a Jamaican soul trio with a strong lead, and warm harmony backup – but there's also maybe a bit more of an edge going on here – partly from the deep, dark rhythms on the tunes – which often have a bottom end that really offsets the vocals – but also maybe just because of the overall badass vibe of the group, as you'd guess from their image on the cover! The Gladiators are to Jamaican music what the grittier New Jersey soul acts were to the mainstream soul market in the US at the same time – as you'll hear on titles that include "Hello Carol", "Rainy Night In Georgia", "Love And Meditation", "On The Other Side", "Jah Go Before Us", "Roots Natty Roots", "Peace Truce", "My Thoughts", and "Downtown Rebel". Reissue features bonus tracks – "Serious Thing", "Jah Jah (version)", "Serious (version)", "Culture", "Rearrange", "Peace Truce", and "Roots Natty/Natty Chalawa (disco mix)". CD

Soul Jazz (UK), 1960s. Near Mint- 2LP ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
More burning instrumentals from Coxsone Dodd and his mighty crew at Studio One! Soul Jazz has already established Dodd and Studio One as a near household name in bad, bold island grooves, and this set of fiery instrumentals keeps up the pressure, with 16 burning numbers! All flavors of Jamaican soul get represented here, from spacey, mellow grooves at the hands of Jackie Mittoo, to mellow snapping clavinet numbers from Pablove Black, deep roots from Cedric Brooks or jaunty ska numbers from the Soul Vendors and the Skatalites. As usual, the packaging is in the deluxe vein that has graced previous chapters in the series, and this set includes "Gumbay Jump" by the Dub Specialist, "A Big Car" by Jackie Mittoo, "Joe Grazer" and "Sidewalk Doctor" by VinGordon, "Sound Almighty" by the Soul Defenders, "Black Wax" by Pablove Black, Dick Tracy" by the Skatalites, "Cousin Joe Pt 1" by Sugar Belly, and "Black Is Black" by Im & David, plus many more!
