The first disc in the set, Train To Skaville, represents an 8 year block during the formative years of the 60s, starting out with some Mento cuts, then a couple of nice Jamaican R& B numbers on through a nice batch of Ska. Disc 2, Do The Reggay, focus on the transition to Rocksteady and early reggae from 1968 to 1970, as the tempos started to get a little more laidback, and the dawn of the 70s gets highlighted with disc 3, Black & White: Reggae Rising. Nice, nice 2 CD set collecting the best work of the great Jamaican crooner Dennis Brown. Working mostly with producer Winston Niney Holness, the pair brought out the best in each other, with Niney coaxing some great performances out of Brown, and Brown getting the best rhythms Niney had to offer. 48 tracks in all, including "He Can't Spell", "Musical Heatwave", "Money In My Pocket (1973)", "Westbound train", "Yagga Yagga (You'll Suffer)", and "Whip Them Jah Jah". The all time classic from Junior Murvin – as essential as any late 70s reggae! Production-wise, Police And Thieves is among Scratch's finest moments, from the most monumental period in Perry's career, during the height of the Black Ark. The title track needs no introduction from us, and the rest of the record is solid, funky roots rock, at a level Murvin would not match again in his career. His sweet falsetto is draped in the dense, murky production that carved a niche in history for Perry. Tracks like "Roots Train" and "False Teaching" are the embodiment of crucial, and the album is filled with other great cuts like the now classic title track, "Rescue Jah Children", "Tedious", "Easy Task" and "I Was Appointed".
