Nenad Jelic & Laza RistovskiOpera ... LP
RTB/Soundway (UK), 1985. New Copy (reissue)... $16.99 29.99
A really unique project from the Serbian underground of the 80s – a record that mixes together global elements, electronics, and some other live instrumentation – all in a way that's as tuneful as it is experimental, and which has a nice sort of post-punk sense of freedom throughout! The music reminds us a lot of some of our favorite work from farther up on the European scene – particularly records on the Crammed label, as this set shares a similar sense of wider sensibilities coming into play with new technologies of the time, yet handled in a way that's very personal and poetic. The duo bring a bit of vocals to the record, but most of the music comes from the interplay between acoustic and electronic elements – on titles that include "Gitanes", "Gajeiro", "Rhinoceros II, "Sometimes At Nine", "In The Sky", and "Rumba Balcana". ✨✧ Joe McPhee/Ken Vandermark/Kent KesslerMeeting In Chicago ... CD
Okka Disk, 1998. Used Gatefold ... Just Sold Out!
A seminal early set on the Okka Disk label – the important Chicago avant imprint who began documenting an important stretch of the career of Joe McPhee – much as the Hat Hut label had begun 20 years before! The set features performances recorded during McPhee's first appearance in Chicago during the mid 90s – the start of a beautiful relationship that would continue for decades to come – and McPhee blows both reeds and trumpet, in a trio with Ken Vandermark on saxes and Kent Kessler on bass – all working together in a very open studio format that has the players shifting between trio work, to solo and duo performances too. The recording is crucial – as McPhee's sensitivity brings out a whole new side of both Chicago players – on titles that include "Heart Of The Matter", "A Meeting In Chicago", "Breakneck Ridge", "Lalibela", "Empty Bottle Blues", "Fourteen Years Later", and "I Leave You Love". (Jazz, Out Sound) CD
(In a nice gatefold sleeve.)

✨✧ Boards of CanadaMusic Has The Right To Children (with bonus track) ... CD
Warp/Skam (UK), 1998. Used ... Out Of Stock
The Warp debut from the Boards of Canada, and only the second full length LP from the duo, though they had issued numerous CDs up to this point in their career. Warm electronics that transcends the IDM tag, and elevates them above the crowded peerage of bedroom laptop wizards. 17 tracks in all, including "Wildlife Analysis", "An Eagle In Your Mind", "The Color Of The Fire", "Telephasic Workshop", "Triangles & Rhombuses", "Sixtyten", "Kaini Industries", "Bocuma", "Roygbiv", "Rue The Whirl", "Aquarius", "Olson", "Pete Standing Alone", "Smoke Quantity", "Open The Light" and "One Very Important Thought". Includes the bonus track "Happy Cycling". (New Grooves, Out Sound) CD

✨✧ Kieran Hebden & Steve ReidNYC ... CD
Domino, 2008. Used ... Out Of Stock
The 4th collaboration between electronics maestro Kieran Hebden & free jazz drum titan Steve Reid – a duo that might have seemed an odd fit at first, but actually makes a lot of sense given their adventurous sensibilities – and their joint body of work keeps growing in surprising ways! NYC is, you guessed it, and ode to the great city – with a pretty diverse approach that builds throughout the six longish tracks. Some find Reid hitting pretty hard and heavy while others are more dexterous and complicated in the rhythms, while Hebden works in both a groove based mode and in artier, Eno-esque experimentation. Truly inspired work from a duo we hope work together for years to come. Titles include "Lyman Place", "1st & 1st" & "25th Street" (both of which work in some avant garde funk), "Arrival", "Between B & C" and "Departure". (Jazz, Out Sound) CD

✨✧ Louis & Bebe BarronForbidden Planet – Original Soundtrack ... LP
Small Planet/Crescendo, 1956. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A postwar sci fi soundtrack, but one that also marks a really important step in electronic music too – as the film features a whole host of amazing constructions from the duo of Louis and Bebe Barron! The pair built a lot of their own early instruments, and it sounds like they're using some theremin here too – all very primitive, but in the best way possible – as there's a stark quality to the analogue sounds here that still holds up all these many years later – every bit as great as creations to come from Tom Dissevelt, Kid Baltan, and all those other giants to come! tracks range from less than a minute to a few minutes each – and titles include "Flurry of Dust", "The Landing", "Invisible Monster Approaches", "Deceleration", "Battle With Invisible Monster", "The Homecoming", and "Ancient Krell Music". ✨✧ Brian Eno & John CaleWrong Way Up ... CD
Opal/Warner, 1990. Used ... Out Of Stock
A surprisingly strong record from an equally surprising duo – both artists who had given the world some real moments of genius in the 70s, then maybe lost their way a bit in the following decade – only to strip things back to a basic appeal here! For Eno, the record is a real return to song-based forms – something he'd really lost during so many of his ambient projects – and for Cale, the record is maybe a bit more focused, with just the right sort of energy to bring his often-strong songwriting back to the fold – as both artists open up with their best instrumental flexibility, and share their strong studio skills too. Titles include "In The Backroom", "Empty Frame", "Spinning Away", "Been There Done That", "Crime In The Desert", "The River", "Cordoba", "Footsteps", "One Word", and "Lay My Love". ✨✧ SunstrokeNothing's Wrong In Paradise ... LP
Copperhead (France), 1985. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A record that really delivers the paradise promised in its title – especially if you dig laidback, keyboard-heavy work with a very mellow vibe! The music is somewhere between some of the best Japanese minimal music of the time, and some of the warmer instrumental experiments from the UK and European scenes – especially that moment in the post-punk years when a few key artists decided that things could be tuneful at the level of some of the best cinematic recordings of the time – but freed from that territory as well, and done at a much more personal, organic level than "serious" music of the concert halls. The duo here work mostly on a range of keyboards, mixed with percussion and cello, all with beautiful results – on titles that include "Boat People", "Dance Of The Prophets", "Re-Incarnation", "Race To The Oasis", and "Nothing's Wrong In Paradise". (Rock, Out Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
