Ralph BurnsNew York's A Song ... LP
Decca, 1960. Very Good Gatefold ... $6.99 11.99
A beautiful tribute to New York from jazz arranger Ralph Burns – perhaps one of the best of that odd postwar genre – the LP-long salute to the Big Apple! This set's got an unusual approach – great instrumentation from Burns, on a par with his more famous jazz scoring of the 50s – mixed with sound effects from all over the city – bits of voices, traffic, crowds, ships, and more – a wonderful pastiche of music and moments! (Jazz, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Comes with the amazing photo book inside – loads of great images and text. Cover has a gloss bubble on one corner, but looks great overall.)

✨✧ Sammy Davis Jr & Laurindo AlmeidaSammy Davis Jr Sings – Laurindo Almeida Plays ... LP
Reprise, 1966. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The closest thing Sammy D ever came to cutting a bossa album – and a lovely batch of fragile tunes that feature no other instrumentation save for the guitar of Laurindo Almeida. Almeida plays acoustic guitar on the album, in a gentle style that supports Sam's rich voice as it works through a set of ballads and sad songs that includes "Here's That Rainy Day", "Two Different Worlds", "The Shadow Of Your Smile", "Joey Joey Joey", "Speak Low", and "We'll Be Together Again". (Vocalists, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album

Martin DennyBest Of Martin Denny ... LP
Liberty, Late 50s/Early 60s. Near Mint- ... $4.99
Not really "the best", but a pretty nice collection of Denny's early work for Liberty – with a groovy photo on the back that shows him working with the group in action, beating on a big conga, while the rest of the band plays exotic percussion! Titles include "The Enchanted Sea", "Ruby", "Bali Hai", "China Nights", "Moonlight & Shadows", "Ebb Tide", and "Harbor Lights". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing. Cover has some ring and edge wear, light aging, peeled spot from sticker removal at the top left corner, and a small split in the bottom seam.)

Cyril JacksonAfro-Stereo (aka Afro Drums) ... LP
Counterpoint, 1958. Near Mint- ... $14.99
A great little album of percussion grooves – hidden under a package that looks like it's going to be a lot more rootsy, but which ends up sounding like some of the hipper conga-heavy sessions on labels like Liberty or GNP from the late 50s. Jackson plays much of the percussion, but there's other players on the set who kick in with some other percussion instruments – and some occasional piano and flute. Tracks include "Mambo Ricci", "Conga", "Jungla", "Road March", "Shango", and "Guaguanco". (Global Grooves, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Gold label pressing. Cover has light wear and a bumped corner.)

Gary McFarlandSoft Samba ... LP
Verve, 1964. Very Good+ Gatefold ... $6.99
A dream of a record from Gary McFarland – lightly jazzy instrumentals with a warm bossa nova undercurrent! The style is incredible – a sweet blend of vibes, guitar, and even some light whistling – often also featuring wordless jazz vocals – scatting along with the groove in a melodic and lovely kind of way! The whole thing's incredibly charming, and even familiar tunes come across sounding quite different in McFarlands hands. Titles include "From Russia With Love", "More", "Emily", "La Vie En Rose", "The Love Goddess", and even a groovy take on "I Want To Hold Your Hand". For you true swingers, the cover includes directions for mixing a "Soft Samba Cocktail" (courtesy Spanish Sherry Institute)! (Jazz, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(MGM stereo pressing. Cover has light wear, a wavy corner, and a few small strips of clear tape.)

Vincent PriceWitchcraft & Magic – An Adventure In Demonology ... LP
Capitol, Early 70s. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... $59.99 69.99
If you've ever doubted that Vincent Price was a creepy guy, you've got to hear this album! The 2LP set is a mad exploration into the world of the supernatural – with Vincent speaking on topics that include "Witch Tortures", "How To Communicate With The Spirits", "The Magic Bloodstone", "Instruments Of Magic", "Witch Burning", and "How To Make A Pact With The Devil". The script was written by Terry D'Oberoff, with electronics by Douglas Leedy – but it's Price who makes the whole thing really work, reading in a dark, spooky tone, set in a really echoey space – really making us believe that he knows all about this weird stuff! (Spoken Word, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light surface wear and a small split on one corner.)

Clara RockmoreTheremin (aka Art Of The Theremin) ... LP
Delos, Mid 70s. Near Mint- ... $19.99
A groundbreaking album of theremin music – recorded at a time when many people had forgotten about the instrument a bit, but at a level that takes the electronic force to a whole new level! The theremin first rose to fame on 50s sci fi soundtracks and weird mood music records – and although it had gotten use on rock albums during the psychedelic years, it never got the proper treatment it deserved until this groundbreaking set from theremin wizard Clara Rockmore! Rockmore plays the instrument here alongside piano from Nadia Reisenberg – really stripping away sci fi futurist stereotype of the theremin, as she takes on work from serious composers, plus other sources too – using the instrument with a sense of drama, and the virtuosic control of a master instrumentalist – on titles that include "Vocalise", "Song Of Grusia", "The Swan", and "Chant Du Memestrel". (Out Sound, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Mississippi reissue in a non-gatefold cover, with insert. Cover has a small light smudge from sticker removal at the top left corner.)

Spanky & Our GangSpanky & Our Gang ... LP
Mercury, 1967. Very Good+ Gatefold ... $3.99
The first, and perhaps the most conventional album by Spanky & Our Gang – but still pretty darn insane! The group are a strange mix of 60s styles – with bits of We Five, bits of Harpers Bizarre, bits of The Association – but a totally strange and totally fun approach to pop that's very much their own. Cuts on the album are a mix of originals and covers – and highlights include the incredible "5 Definitions Of Love" by Bob Dorough, "Distance" by Joe Renzetti, "Commercial" by the band, and the track "It Ain't Necessarily Bird Avenue". Great groovy stuff – and with arrangements by Renzetti, Dorough, and Stuart Scharf. (Rock, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Red label stereo pressing. Cover has a bent corner and some surface wear.)

Patrick WilliamsTheme ... LP
PA USA, 1977. Near Mint- ... $4.99
A groovy album of slick LA jazz – put together by the great Pat Williams, who did some great arranging work for Verve and MPS in earlier years! The record features a lot of studio jazz players – like Dave Grusin, Toots Thielemans, Gerrry Niewood, Marvin Stamm, and Jerome Richardson – and the tracks are short with kind of an uptempo funky style. Titles include "Barrio", "Blue Light", "Sail On", and versions of the "Bob Newhart" and "Lou Grant" TV Themes! (Jazz, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Early 80s US pressing. Cover is bent a bit at the top left corner.)
