✨✧ CliqueClique ... CD
White Whale/Varese, Late 60s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Slightly easy, slightly baroque, and with a sound that's somewhere near Free Design, The Mamas & The Papas, and other groups of the time – The Clique were one of the many groovy lost pop bands that came out of the west coast during the 60s. The record boasts the original version of the track "Superman", which went to become a big hit for R.E.M. about 20 years later. There's lots of other nice groovy original material, like "Sugar On Sunday", "Shadow Of Your Love", "Judy, Judy, Judy", and a cool version of the Bee Gees "Holiday". 17 tracks, with extra cuts, and good liner notes on the band. ✨✧ Enoch LightSpaced Out ... LP
Project 3, 1969. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Quite possibly the grooviest album ever from Enoch Light – a trippy blend of many 60s styles, all put together with sublime Project 3 Sound! The album's billed as featuring "exploratory trips through the music of Bach, Bacharach, the Beatles – Integrating the Moog, the Guitar Scene, Electronic Harpsichord, Flugelhorns, etc" – and it definitely lives up to that bill, given the range of songs included! Rhythms are strong, and the use of sweetly compressed horn parts is very much in an A&M mode – as is the backing vocals, which are light and wonderful – a bit like Free Design, but more towards the territory of Singers Unlimited, although even groovier. The Beatles and Bacharach material is especially great – but even the Bach tunes come out wonderfully, given that most are re-arranged with a hip 60s soundtrack sort of groove – classical roots, but contemporary execution – especially when there's a bit of moog or electric harpsichord. Titles include "Walk On By", "Norweigan Wood", "What The World Needs Now", "Get Back", "Bond Street", "Petite Paulette", "My Silent Song", and "Lover's Concerto". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Sid BassMoog Espana ... LP
RCA, 1969. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Sid Bass runs through a bunch of moogy versions of tunes in the "Spanish" idiom – either traditional favorites, or more modern pop Latin tracks – with plenty of fast-type moogy work, designed to approximate (we think) a Spanish guitar sort of approach! Cuts include "Granada", "Spanish Flea", "The Peanut Vendor", "Valencia", "Mama Inez", and "Ritual Fire Dance". Noodley and moogy! LP, Vinyl record album

ChainoTemptation – The Exotic Sounds Of Chaino ... CD
Modern Harmonic, 1960. New Copy ... $15.99 16.99
One of the most obscure albums ever issued by exotica king Chaino – a set that was originally only released as a reel to reel tape, and which maybe shows an even wider sonic palette that was designed for that format! All the percussion we love on other Chaino records is firmly in place, but the orchestrations and arrangements are also richer and jazzier – almost more in an RCA Living Stereo mode, and we mean that in the best way possible – as the whole thing is really a top-shelf instrumental exotica album from the bachelor pad generation! There's a few Martin Denny elements here and there, but again the sound is wider and fuller overall – on titles that include "Mambo Italiano", "Mambo Inn", "Cuban Caper", "Caravan", "Cool Mambo", "Temptation", "Eso Es El Amor", and "An Occasional Man". CD

✨✧ Ferrante & TeicherFerrante & Teicher With Percussion ... LP
ABC, 1958. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Another one of their crazy LPs, which are sometimes hard to find amidst the pop stuff they normally did. This one's got them doing some originals and some standards, augmented by a tight little ensemble of three percussionists and one bassist. The added instruments drive their piano stuff – which is already percussive enough, what with weird keys and mallet designs – into a driving new dimension. 12 tracks in all, including "Che Si Dice", "Va Va Voom", "Aflame", "Parade Of The Bobbies", "Cielito Lindo", "Beyond The Blue Horizon", "Three O'Clock In The Morning" and "The Nearness Of You". Pool-PahFlasher (black & white swirl vinyl pressing) ... LP
Greene Bottle/Real Gone, Mid 70s. New Copy (reissue)... $27.99 29.99
Insane! This is a totally weird album of messed-up funky grooves, played by the enigmatic Pool-Pah rock group, with arrangements by Rupert Holmes (of "Pina Colada" fame!) The music is a weird mix of spare moogy instrumentals and flanged-out vocal tracks designed to accompany a strange film called The Flasher – and although the general concept of the film and music seem incredibly stupid, the overall sound is pretty darn great! The album includes the monster slow-moving break track "Sour Soul", plus other nice funky and moogy tracks, like "Flight", "Two Way Road", and "Flasher Theme". Incredibly obscure, and the kind of rare break record you dig for for years! (Soundtracks, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Franck PourcelLes Baxter's La Femme ... LP
Capitol, 1956. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A lush romantic reading of Les Baxter's extended suite "La Femme", a bunch of Frenchy sounding compositions designed to fit nicely with Capitol's "Capitol Of the World" series. Pourcel conducts the work in a rich European style, with the usual overblown number of musicians in the orchestra, and a heavy heavy sound that leaves not a second of silence in the entire work. Titles include "Les Cuisses", "La Nuque", "Les Bras", "Les Yeux", and "Les Doigts". LP, Vinyl record album
(Duophonic stereo rainbow label pressing.)

Morris StoloffThis Is Kim – As Jeanne Eagels ... LP
Decca, Late 50s. Very Good+ ... $24.99
Not actually music with Kim Novak – but a set of musical backdrops by Morris Stoloff – designed as a package for the film Jeanne Eagels! The cover has a great color shot on the front, and smaller images of Kim on the back – and the music is surprisingly dark and moody. (Soundtracks, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Pink label mono promo with deep groove. Cover has wear, aging, and a few small peeled spots.)
