✨✧ Living Guitars/Living StringsJoy Of Christmas/Sound Of Christmas ... CD
RCA/Real Gone, 1969/1970. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Two sweet instrumental Christmas albums – both from the RCA pop paradise of the 60s! First up are the Living Guitars – that instrumental lineup that took 60s guitar modes from the pop world, and set them up with a bit more of a bachelor pad/easy listening motif – guitar out front in the mix, but also set up in larger arrangements – and sometimes more late nite than rocking. In the mode of other "living" series records from the time, many titles are in medley mode – and include "Winter Wonderland/Sleigh Ride", "Oh Christmas Tree/Deck the Halls", "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus/Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", "Jingle Bell Rock/Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", and "Silver Bells/The Real Meaning of Christmas". Next up are the Living Strings – a group who were a bit like the Soulful Strings over at Chess Records, but a lot more mellow overall – although this time around, they've got a bit of an electric bass at the bottom to give them a bump when needed! The group's lush sound is perfect for a Holiday record – especially the kind you play after a big meal, when the evening is winding down – and titles include "The Christmas Waltz", "Winter Wonderland/Jingle Bells/Snow Bells", "Oh Come All Ye Faithful/The First Noel/The Coventry Carol/O Holy Night", "Do You Hear What I Hear", "A Handful of Happy New Years", "Toyland/The Little Drummer Boy/Parade of the Wooden Soldiers", and "Blue Christmas". ✨✧ Soulful StringsGroovin' ... LP
Cadet, 1967. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Seminal instrumental groovers from the Chicago Chi-soul scene! This great group was led by Chess/Cadet soul arranger Richard Evans, and it featured many of the instrumentalists who made Chess records so great – like Cleveland Eaton, Charles Stepney, Morris Jennings, and Phil Upchurch. The tracks have a nice lilting bass-heavy groove – and the set list includes the seminal Chicago classic "Burning Spear", plus "Soul Prelude", "Alfie", "All Blues", and "Within You Without You". (Soul, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing. Cover has light wear.)
