✨✧ EsquivelBest Of Esquivel ... LP
RCA, Late 50s/Early 60s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Nice nice set of some of Esquivel's best moments from his late-50s/early-60s RCA recordings! The cover's got Juan Garcia on the front, looking very cool, and the record includes a dozen groovy numbers that are the epitome of space age bachelor pad chic: "Poinciana", "Guadalajara", "Malaguena", "Bye Bye Blues", "Granada", "Jalousie", "Cherokee", "Take The A Train", "My Reverie", "Adios, Marquita Linda", "Magic Is The Moonlight" and "Estrellita". ✨✧ Hugo MontenegroMusic From A Fistful Of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, & The Good The Bad & The Ugly ... LP
RCA, Late 60s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Hugo's covering all bases here – as he makes his way through a number of late 60s Morricone spaghetti western themes, all done with his groovier than usual twist on the material! The Montenegro touches here include some augmented rhythms – snapping the tunes along with a much modder feel at times than the original – plus a nice use of electric bass at the bottom, and some sunshine-drenched vocal passages have some great harmonies! Titles include "The Vice Of Killing", "For A Few Dollars More", "Story Of A Soldier", "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly", "The Ecstasy Of Gold", "Sixty Seconds To What?", and "March With Hope". ✨✧ Gabor SzaboJazz Raga ... LP
Impulse, 1966. Very Good- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
One of the coolest albums ever cut by guitarist Gabor Szabo – a set that also has him playing sitar as well! The album's got a sound that's as groovy as you'd expect from the title – a mix of Gabor's usual jazz modes, which are already pretty darn great, and some of the Indian music sounds that were bubbling under in the 60s – a wicked little blend that makes for an album we've treasured for years! Rhythms often hit that breezy Spellbinder mode of Gabor's Impulse years, but the addition of sitar and tablas makes for a great change too – one of the best chapters in Szabo's legendary 60s years. Bernard Pretty Purdie plays drums on all cuts, and titles include "Raga Doll", "Search for Nirvana", "Ravi", "Krishna", "Sophisticated Wheels", "Comin Back", "Summertime", "Mizrab", and "Walking On Nails". ✨✧ Cy WalterRodgers Revisited – Cy Walter Plays Richard Rodgers Compositions ... LP
Atlantic, 1956. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Pianist Cy Walters takes on a bakers dozen of songs by composer Richard Rodgers – all familiar tunes from mid-century shows – played here by Cy in spare solo piano readings! The tunes have a warmly crackling feel – of the sort you might expect if you found Walters tinkling the ivories late at night, in the back room of some small lounge. The style's somewhere in a space between cocktail piano and jazz – with the best qualities of both – and titles include "This Can't Be Love", "Soliloquy", "March Of The Siamese Children", "Sing For Your Supper", "Slaughter On 10th Avenue", and "Getting To Know You". ✨✧ Whatitdo Archive GroupPalace Of A Thousand Sounds ... CD
Record Kicks (Italy), 2023. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A really cool shift for this very hip group – a set of sweet exotica numbers, after a previous record of blacksploitation grooves – yet one that's every bit as funky as the previous album, thanks to all the right instrumental touches! At the top, the music has lots of older exotica touches – percussion, vibes, harp, and other exotic elements – but at the bottom, there's some heavier grooves – working with the sounds on the top, all at a level that's maybe somewhere in the territory of a hip kung fu soundtrack – or as if Martin Denny were asked to score a film called Shaft In Hawaii! Titles include "Exotique", "Sun Harp", "Astra-Desia", "Enter The Palace", "Iron Tusk", "Mirage", "Secrets In The Sand", and "The Second Moon". (Deep Funk, Now Sound) CD
