✨✧ Lindberg Hemmer FoundationScandinavian Supermarket Music At Its Very Best ... CD
April (Denmark), 2002. Used ... Out Of Stock
The title gets this one right – as the album's a dreamy batch of instrumental tunes, the kind we'd love to hear coming out of the speakers in our supermarket! As with the group's other work, this album by the Lindberg Hemmer Foundation takes a retro twist – dipping back into a 60s easy bossa mode, blending organ and electric bass, plus a bit of moog – into simple, yet compelling tunes that recall the glory days of French soundtracks, Brazilian summers, and Italian coffee. A real gem all the way through – and one you'll be storming the Safeway just to get to the masses! Titles include "Frank Of Denmark", "Uhm Snacks", "The Buy Buy Song", "Full Auto", and "Party At Tony's Beach". (New Grooves, Now Sound) CD

Marty GoldSoundpower! ... LP
RCA, 1962. Near Mint- ... $1.99 2.99
An album with as much power as you'd expect from the title – and a set that's billed as featuring "Music To The Limits Of Audibility"! The limits explored are the farther ones in sound – not the lower tones at the end of hearing – and Marty Gold does a very good job of hitting the heights with his bold orchestrations, captured here in dramatic RCA sound of the time! Orchestrations are often a bit more complicated than the usual bachelor pad record – with lots of complex horn patterns especially, instead of driving rhythms – and titles include "Stella By Starlight", "The Moon Was Yellow", "I'll Remember April", "A String Of Pearls", "Without A Song", and "Misty". Very dramatic – and bound to make your speakers pop! LP, Vinyl record album
(Living Stereo Dynagroove pressing with deep groove. Cover has some ringwear.)

✨✧ Mike Hurst OrchestraDrivetime ... CD
Angel Air (UK), 1969. Used ... Out Of Stock
A beautiful little album of sweet late 60s easy – originally recorded by British producer Mike Hurts for Phase 4 at the end of the 60s, but never issued until now! The set has a really warm and glowing sort of groove – one that's a fair bit more dynamic than most of the rest of the Phase 4 sets, with evocative qualities that almost push the record more into the soundtrack side of the spectrum. Hurst's arrangements of the tunes are often quite driving, but never too dramatic – and although the set's an orchestral one, there's a great sense of pacing, timing, and rhythm to all the numbers. Titles include "April Fools", "Cool", "Sound Of Silence", "Wednesday's Child", "Good Vibrations", "Image", "Mission Impossible", and "Theme From The Wild Ones". CD

✨✧ Sid Ramin & OrchestraNew Thresholds In Sound ... LP
RCA, 1963. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Sid Ramin at his most dynamic – heard here on this sweet RCA session from the early 60s, in modes that really show the same kind of arrangements that Sid was doing for TV at the time! The feel of the record really lives up to the "new thresholds" title – as Ramin pushes the orchestra in all these colorful, vivid ways – yet still also while keeping things fluid, and a fair bit jazz at times – never letting the album just be one of those tricks for the hi-fi crowd, and still hanging on strongly to a musical mode! Tracks include "Strike Up The Band", "I Believe In You", "Bewitched", "Hernando's Hideaway", and "April In Paris". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Gordon Staples & The String ThingStrung Out ... LP
Motown, 1970. Near Mint- ... Just Sold Out!
A damn funky record – way more so than you might expect from the "string" in the title! The group's kind of an answer to the Soulful Strings ensemble headed by Richard Evans for Cadet/Concept in Chicago – and like that group, it mixes up funky rhythms with some sweet large orchestrations – in a style that's almost a precursor of blacksploitation funk to come in the 70s! Paul Riser handles arrangements – very much in the same spirit of Evans – and he picks up a hip Motown groove that bridges sweeping soul and gritty funk – all played to perfection by an ensemble led by Gordon Staples, and featuring players from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra! There's lots of funky nuggets in the set – and titles include excellent originals like "Strung Out", "Toonie", and "Sounds of the Zodiac" – plus "The April Fools", "The Look Of Love", "Get Down", "If Your Love Were Mine", "Someday We'll Be Together", and "From A Heart That's True To Only You". (Soul, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing! Cover has a slight bump in one corner, but this is a great copy overall.)

✨✧ VariousBlack Lace & Voodoo Drums – Lux & Ivy Dig That Sound ... CD
Righteous (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A wonderful world of weird and wild tracks from the 45rpm underground – exactly the kind of unusual records that first got Lux and Ivy inspired when they were first forming The Cramps! The mix of artists here is great – there's a bit of soul, a bit of rock, a touch of exotica, and plenty other unusual styles too – and cuts are marked both with unusual instrumentation and production techniques, and just an all-out effort to have as much fun as possible in the recording studio! Titles include "Leather Jacket Cowboy" by Pepper Pots, "You Tarzan Me Jane" by Glen Willings, "Mr Cool" by The Leeds, "Sugar Diabetes" by Eddie Banks, "Voo Doo Drums" by Aki Aleong, "Lose My Mind" by Herbert Henson, "Sound Off" by Titus Turner, "Pulp Wood Charley" by Wee Willie, "Pug Nose & Pony Tail" by Wally Hughes, "Atlantis" by The Blue Bells, "Shawnee" by The Premiers, "Cave Man" by The Vibrations, "The Inebriated Surfer" by Tornadoes, and "Black Lace" by April Stevens. Capitol, 1950s/1960s. Used ... Out Of Stock
A very cool little package – filled with excellent loungey tunes pulled from Capitol's Ultra Lounge series! The cover alone is worth the price of admission – faux leopard fur, topped off with a shiny embossed Ultra-Lounge logo – but inside, the CD features 24 very groovy tunes, mostly late 50s and early 60s numbers, recorded in the glory days of mood music and bachelor pad albums! Titles include "Teach Me Tiger" by April Stevens, "Tanya" by Plas Johnson, "Swamp Fire" by Martin Denny, "Cha Cha Cha D'Amour" by Dean Martin, "So Nice" by Billy May, "More" by Bobby Darin, "Route 66" by Nelson Riddle, and "Lonesome Road" by Dean Elliott.
