Lee —
Maybe Now ... CD Lee, 2022. New Copy 2CDs ...
Out Of Stock
Lee's always been one of the most compelling artists in the neo soul underground – from his early work in Square Egg, to the handful of solo albums he's given us over the years – and although it's been awhile since we heard from his last, the singer seems to have honed his craft even more, to a point where the strength of his music might be more than enough to finally give him a bit of mainstream exposure! The set's a double-length album – and Lee uses all that extra space to move into modes that move between acoustic and electric soul, with some jazzier stops along the way – and a surprising array of catchy tunes delivered with a real depth of style. Titles include "Mr Smith", "Long Way To Go", "Feel Thangs", "Room 101", "It Ain't Fair", "Harrison Bergeron", "Calle", "Good Times", "I Love The Rain", and "Rich Man's War Poor Man's Fight". CD

Nia Andrews —
No Place Is Safe ... CD World Galaxy/Rings (Japan), 2019. New Copy ...
$8.9926.99
A record with a very striking title – and a wonderful sound to match – this warm, fluid blend of the vocals of Nia Andrews and a rich keyboard-heavy environment – one that features a fair bit of contributions from Mark De Clive-Lowe! Nia also plays piano and keyboards, and it's clear that she's an equally comfortable instrumentalist – and often envisions her vocals wrapped around her keys – yet never in a way that's trying to hide her singing, as Andrews is clearly one hell of a vocalist in the making! Titles include "Little Girl", "Linger", "Might Be Eternity", "The Road", "Cleo & The King", "Seems So", and "The Ceiling". CD

Brit Funk Association —
Ancestral Voices ... CD Expansion (UK), 2023. New Copy ...
$18.9921.99
That's almost an Earth Wind & Fire-styled image on the cover – and the Brit Funk Association definitely live up to the spirit of that scene – which is maybe no surprise, given that group members have a legacy that goes way back for many years on the UK soul scene! There's a warmth to the record that's really timeless – an updating of classic 70s modes that's almost in the Incognito mode, but which is often jazzier at times, with some great focus on horn solos over the vocals – a bit like the mix of jazz, soul, and funk that Wayne Henderson brought to his classic production efforts back in the day! The group give a nod to one of those classics with a sweet cover of "Always There", and serve up a nice take on "Pick Up The Pieces" – alongside tracks that include "Freedom Dancin", "Driftin", "Snowfall", "Elevation", "Let It Flow", and "Take It In Stages". Bella Brown & The Jealous Lovers —
Soul Clap ... CD LRK (UK), 2024. New Copy ...
$9.9912.99
A set that's got all the classic soul vibe you might guess from the title and the cover, but one that's also got some more contemporary elements too – as Bella Brown and the group weave together strands of soulful influences from many decades – all with the feeling as if a 60s act on Atlantic Records were brought forward in time to hear a bit of Afro Funk from the 70s, Brand New Heavies from the late 80s, and other sweet bits which they then brought back to influence their sound! Bella's a very strong singer in the lead, able to shift things into her own mode way past standard retro soul approaches – and titles include "Bang Bang Bang", "Lady Time", "What Will You Leave Behind", "Soul Clap", "There Is Love", and "Fast As Lighting". CD features a bonus radio edit of "Soul Clap". (Deep Funk, Neo Soul)CD
The retro-styled font on the cover is a tipoff to the sound of this set – as Tre Burt steps back into the past a bit more and channels some strong influences from 70s soul, while still offering up that more contemporary blend of rock and R&B influences you'd know from his previous records! Production is nice and warm – again maybe nodding back to the past, especially early 70s Hi Records, but with more contemporary execution – on titles that include "Play Stevie Wonder", "Win My Heart", "I'm Aight Pops Just Tired", "Santiago", "Wings For A Butterfly", "To Be A River", "2 For Tha Show", and "Told Ya Then". Lisa Decker with Nautilus/Saturnvybz —
Soliloquise ... CD Oonops Drops (UK), 2023. New Copy ...
$7.9916.99
Singer Lisa Decker shares the set with two different groups – Nautilus on one side, and Saturnvybz on the other – both of whom provide some great grooves for her vocals! Nautilus have a style that's nice and lean – a core funky trio with lots of sweet keyboards that slide in warmly, and resonate strongly alongside Decker's presentation of the lyrics. Saturnvybz are a bit more guitar-based, and bring out a different quality in Lisa's voice – maybe a bit more pointed, yet still as powerful – balancing things out nicely. Nautilus tunes include "Free", "Let's Wake Up", "Rimy Whitewater", and "Summer Child". Saturnvybz tracks include "Stay With Me", "Love & Hope", and "On My Way". CD
