Machito Orchestra —
Fireworks ... LP Coco, 1977. Very Good ...
Temporarily Out Of Stock
70s work from Machito – still very much in the mode of his classics from earlier years, but with an undeniable punch on a few numbers, thanks to the smoking salsa groove of the Coco Records label! The album's got one really standout track entitled "Macho" – a 13 minute descarga number that spins out with lots of different changes, and which features some nice electric jazzy touches! Harvey Averne produced the entire session, with a nice undercurrent of Latin soul – and the album also features Charlie Palmieri on both organ and piano. Other tracks include "Mi Ritmo Llego", "Soy Salsero", "No Seras Para Mi", and "Desilusion". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

Charlie Palmieri —
Electro Duro ... LP Coco, 1974. Very Good ...
Out Of Stock
A great little record from Charlie Palmieri – and one of his oddest! The "electro" in the title refers to a strange tinny organ that Charlie plays on many cuts on the record, a cool little instrument that gives the songs a nice twist. The backing's pretty great in the classic Coco Records mode – with strong salsa grooving, and a list of players that includes Tito Puente, Manny Oquendo, Roberto Roena, Cortijo, Cachao, and Andy Gonzalez. The record features a groovy little funk number called "The Taxi Driver" – plus Latin numbers like "Para Caracas Me Voy", "Maracaibo Oriental", "Salazon", and "Las Negritas De Carnaval". LP, Vinyl record album

Joe Quijano Y Su Orquesta —
Ahora ... LP Coco, 1975. Near Mint- ...
Out Of Stock
Joe's got some great help here – musical direction from Charlie Palmieri, who also plays piano – and production from Harvey Averne! Titles include "Mapale", "Bailen Y Gozen", "Tema De Broadway", "Juguentes Del Destino", and "Salieron Pocos". LP, Vinyl record album
A fantastic 70s session from Charlie Palmieri – featuring some of his best keyboard solos of the decade, and some very cool work on organ that almost makes us think Sun Ra is in the group! The style is quite unusual, even for Charlie – with a weird sound from his organ that really gives the record an edge – played alongside straighter piano lines, heavy percussion, and lots of warm horn work overall. Charlie's organ really stands out best on the descarga cut "No Esta En Na" and the groovy midtempo "Estoy Friza'o" – but the whole thing's great, and other cuts include "Comelon Hustle", "King Charles", "Dame Tu Corazon", and "Sobando El Piano Merengue". LP, Vinyl record album
Lots of classics from this legendary group – including "Bombele", "Ya Te Olivide", "Cuando Florezcan Las Amapolas", "Mosaico No 1", "El Trago", "Coco Pleao", "Casi Te Muerdo", and "El Hombre Marinero". LP, Vinyl record album
Jazzy mambos from the Decca years of Noro Morales – titles that include "Jungle Bird", "Mambo Mono", "Shawanga Mambo", "Up & Down Mambo", "Mambo Coco", and "Que Problema". LP, Vinyl record album
(Late 80s Spanish pressing on Palladium. Cover has a small name in marker on back.)
A mid 80s studio set from the Fania All Stars – and proof that the group was still going great at this time – almost reverting to their older modes of the early 70s, and shaking free of the more electric, more soul-based styles that group was using during their time at Columbia Records! The style here is very much in the spirit of the group's roots – long tracks that spin out with plenty of space for all the collaboration that made the Fania All Stars not only unique in Latin music, but a real model of artistic cooperation that other genres could certainly share! The group for this date includes vocals by Ismael Miranda, Celia Cruz, Adalberto Santiago, and Hector Lavoe – and titles include "Por Eso Yo Canto Salsa", "Usando El Coco", "El Rey De La Puntulidad", and "La Tierra No Es Pa La Guerra". LP, Vinyl record album
(Back cover and label on Side A have a small name in marker.)

Dave Pike —
Peligrosso ... LP CuBop/Ubiquity, 2000. Near Mint- ...
Out Of Stock
A killer album of Latin jazz – and one of Dave Pike's best recordings in years! The set grooves a lot harder than Pike's previous album for Ubiquity – and no wonder, since he's got Bobby Matos helping him out to maintain a strong Latin jazz sound. Pike's one of those players who's amazingly adaptable, and who in fact always seems to take new strength from new settings. This record shows him pushing past some of the ill-chosen moments of other recordings of the past two decades, to return to his glory as one of the best vibes players around. Titles include "Peligroso", "Bronx Blue", "Cayo Coco", "Sandunga", and "Beauty & The Beast". (Jazz, Latin)LP, Vinyl record album
Killer Latin dancefloor material! Compiled by Brit Latin DJ Gerry Lyesight, and filled with loads of storming cuts that we don't see elsewhere, wrapped up into one lovely package with the usual BBE high standards! There's 14 cuts, and titles include "Tumba El Quinto" by Hector Rivera, "Coco My Way" by Tambu, "Gaviota" by Jimmy Bosch, "Oromi" by Daniel Ponce, "Muneca" by Charlie Palmieri, "Red Onions" by Armando Peraza, "No Que Va A Llora" by Andy Harlow, and "Porque No Me Dices" by Linda Leida. Great stuff all the way through, and mostly slamming instrumentals, with a few tight jazzy vocal cuts thrown in! LP, Vinyl record album
Mongo Santamaria at the height of his Latin Soul years – working on a cool Columbia session titled after an earlier hit, but served up with his new lean sound of the late 60s! The album's got that perfect Santamaria combo from the time – a group that features trumpet and these wonderfully sharp arrangements from the great Marty Sheller – plus very smoking reed work from a young Hubert Laws, wailing away on flute and tenor, and Bobby Capers on alto and baritone – both players who mix jazz and soul instrumental modes, to bring a hell of a lot of feeling to the overall sound of the band – in ways that really get past more familiar use of trumpet or trombone in other Latin combos. The band grooves nicely on original material like "Streak O Lean", "Ricky Tick", "Do It To It", "Fatback", "Coconut Milk", and "Jose Outside" – and they also reprise Mongo's big hit "Watermelon Man". LP, Vinyl record album
