Los Golden Boys —
Cumbia De Juventud ... LP Discos Fuentes/Mississippi, Mid 60s. Near Mint- ...
$11.99
Youthful cumbia from Los Golden Boys – a combo with a spirit that really lives up to their name – and which is served up here with some very cool use of organ next to more familiar cumbia rhythms! The instrument is lean and spacey – almost otherworldly – and the quality makes for a record that's very unique, almost as if Saturn Records had decided to do a co-release with Discos Fuentes! In addition to the "boys" in the group, the lineup also features some vocals from female singer Amparo Muniz – on titles that include "Cumbia Y Beso", "Cumbia De Juventud", "Cumbia De La Mariguana", "El Buena Vida", "Si Me Quieres", "A Volar Moscas", "El Ano Viejo", and "Vengan A Baila". LP, Vinyl record album
(Recent 160 gram vinyl.)

We've never known anything about these guys other than their few albums for the Fiesta label, but they're a great little combo with a heavy piano sound! The record is really nice – spare piano, bass, and percussion – laid out over cha cha rhythms that are very to the point, and never too overly complicated. Tunes break out in rhythmic simplicity – really making for a spare and fresh little set. Titles include "Luna Lu", "Un Sueno", "Te Quiero Dijiste", "Cha Cha At The Waldorf", "Playera", and "Chivirico". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono yellow label pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear, mostlhy split top seam, and center splits in the spine and bottom seam.)

A sweet set of 70s Latin Disco – less Afro-Cuban than you might expect, but a great illustration of the way that older Latin modes had filtered down to more mainstream dancefloors at the time! There's definitely still some Latin elements in the mix – but the set's also got Michael Zager arranging and producing, and giving the whole thing more of a disco focus overall – in ways that criss cross nicely throughout the record. Titles include a sweet clubby cover of Joe Cuba's "Bang Bang", a remake of Sly Stone's "Life & Death In G&A", and the titles "Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys", "Once You Get Started", and "Get Dancin". (Soul, Latin)LP, Vinyl record album
