A rare 1953 performance by Harry Sweets Edison – presented here in the original by Pacific Jazz on a 10" LP – a real departure from some of Edison's other work of the time! The material was all recorded live at The Haig nightclub – and the 4 tunes feature Edison blowing open and easy with backing from a trio led by pianist Arnold Ross. Titles include "September In The Rain", "Pennies From Heaven", "These Foolish Things", and "Indiana". LP, Vinyl record album
A classic French Vogue recording that has Parisian pianist Henri Renaud playing with a group of American all-stars, like Milt Jackson, Jay Jay Johnson, Al Cohn, and Percy Heath. The set's a prime example of the firey crossover bop that was being laid down on the left bank when American jazz players would meet up with the best that Paris had to offer – and as you'll hear on tracks like "Out Of Nowhere", "The More I See You", "If I Had You", "Indiana", and there's very little lost in the translation! LP, Vinyl record album
A great return to form for the legendary Mel Rhyne – the Hammond player who rose out of the same Indianapolis scene with guitar genius Wes Montgomery, and got a chance to record a bit for Riverside when Wes was at the label – then disappeared from the national scene until this killer comeback album from the early 90s! Rhyne is still very much a giant of the jazz organ – and has a clear, sharp tone here that's wonderful – set up in a quartet with a very young Joshua Redman on tenor, plus Peter Bernstein on guitar, and Kenny Washington on drums – all in a groove that's a great continuation of Rhyne's work of the 60s! The album's a real Hammond standout from the time – and titles include "Shades Of Light", "Jeannine", "Bear's Tune", "Born To Be Blue", "Full House", and "Hattush's Blues". LP, Vinyl record album
