✨✧ Miles DavisWarner Years – 1986 to 1991 (Tutu/Siesta/Amandla/Dingo/Doo Bop/Miles & Quincy/Live) 5CD set) ... CD
Warner/Rhino (France), Late 80s/Early 90s. Used 5CD ... Out Of Stock
The final recordings of Miles Davis – and music that shows that the legendary trumpeter was still continuing to grow strongly in his later years! The set features a great scope of sounds – from soundtrack projects with Marcus Miller and Michel Legrand, a live tribute to Gil Evans recorded with Quincy Jones, other excellent live material, and some important records that show the late Davis embracing new rhythms of the 80s, in the same way he worked with funk, soul, and rock styles in the 70s! Includes the albums Tutu, Music From Siesta, Amandla, Dingo, Doo Bop, Miles & Quincy Live At Montreux, and Live Around The World – plus a final CD collecting rarities and guest appearances with Cameo, Kenny Garrett, Chaka Khan, Shirley Horn, and others. ✨✧ Herbie HancockFuture 2 Future ... CD
Transparent, 2001. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Herbie reinvents himself for the 21st Century – and ends up turning out one of his most compelling albums in years! As with his Future Shock years, Herbie's working here with Bill Laswell – but if that scares you a bit (it did us!), don't worry, because Laswell's much more in the background than you'd think, and instead, Herbie relies on some strong work by guests that include Carl Craig, Chaka Khan, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams, and Rob Swift, to help take the groove to a whole new level. Titles include "The Essence", "This Is Rob Swift", "Black Gravity", "Tony Williams", "Ionosphere", "Alphabeta", and "Virtual Hornets". CD

✨✧ Quincy JonesLove, Q – Greatest Love Songs ... CD
Hip-O, 1970s/1980s/1990s. Used ... $6.99
Sweet sweet Quincy! Although the Q's probably best remembered round these parts for his funky 70s work or classic 60s soundtracks, we also have to admit that we love him for his mellow grooves – the sly and seductive tunes that often hid out amidst his albums of the 70s and 80s, and which also featured early work by singers that later went onto much greater fame. This excellent set brings together 17 of those wonderful mellow moments – stretching back to some of Quincy's important collaborative A&M efforts of the 70s, and running up to some of his best work of more recent vintage. Titles include "Superwoman" and "Love Me By Name", with Patti Austin; "Body Heat", with Leon Ware; "I'm Gonna Miss You In The Morning", with Luther Vandross & Patti Austin; "Velas" and "The Getaway", with Toots Thielemans; "How Do You Keep The Music Playing" and "Baby Come To Me", with Patti Austin & James Ingram; "The Places You Find Love", with Siedah Garrett, Chaka Khan, & Herbie Hancock; "The Secret Garden", with El DeBarge, James Ingram, Al B Sure, & Barry White; "Sax In The Garden", with Barry White & Kirk Whalum; "Turn Out The Lamplight", with George Benson; and "Just Once", with James Ingram. ✨✧ SouliveBreak Out ... CD
Concord, 2005. Used ... Out Of Stock
A well-titled set, given that the album is Soulive's first away from the Blue Note label – a surprisingly tight outing done for the mostly-mellow Concord imprint, and a real back-to-basics outing that we totally love! The group's in fine fine form for the record – working with that core classic intensity that we first loved way back in their indie years – an approach that's gotten a bit too overly jamming or muddled up on other records, and which is presented here in a nicely stripped-down approach that only adds in a bit of extra guest work from time to time. Reggie Watts, Chaka Khan, and Ivan Neville all make appearances on the record – but honestly, what we still love best is the record's core grooving from the trio of Evans, Krasno, and Evans. Hate the cover, though – but whaddayagonnado? Titles include some great short "Interlude" tracks, plus "Got Soul", "Reverb", "Break Out", "She's Hooked", "Freedom", "What Can You Do", "Vapor", and "Take It Easy". (Deep Funk, Jazz) CD
