A live set that follows the great format first set out by the trio of guitarists Charlie Byrd, Barney Kessel, and Herb Ellis – a pretty airy approach to jazz guitar swinging that also features a bit of bass from Joe Byrd and some drums from Chuck Redd! As before, the approach seems to work best on older swing-styled numbers – letting one guitar play rhythm while another solos strongly – on titles that include "Where Or When", "New Orleans", "Change Partners", "Opus One", "Get Happy", and "Danielle". A really great later date from pianist Walter Davis – one that was only issued overseas, and is a lot more obscure than some of his other work of the time! The album features great work from Bob Mover on alto – really bringing a lot to the core trio, which also features great work from ron Carter on bass and Kenny Washington on drums – on titles that include the originals "Uranus" and "Illumination". Great 70s trio work from the master of electric jazz guitar tone – working here with Ray Brown on bass and Hank Jones on piano – a cool drum-less group that really lets you get to hear Tal at work! CD

The special guest here is Bobby Hutcherson, whose vibes really make the album sound great – in a quintet with George Cables on piano, Jeff Carney on bass, and Eddie Marshall on drums! CD
David Matthews —
Delta Lady ... CD Bellaphon (Germany), 1980. Used ...
Out Of Stock
Fender Rhodes and tight arrangements from the great David Matthews – a solo set that works in the same sort of vibe as his bigger backings for 70s artists on the CTI/Kudu label! The group's largeish, but still has a nice open vibe – as Matthews works a lot of care into his charts to give some of the stars plenty of room to shine – especially guitarist Earl Klugh, who works on the record in a group that also include Burt Collins and Joe Sheppley on trumpets, and George Young, David Tofani, and Ronnie Cuber on saxes and flute! Titles include "Funky Turkey", "Spanish Heat", "Gosman's Gazebo", and "Westlake Drive". CD
