✨✧ Gnarls BarkleySt Elsewhere ... CD
Atlantic/Downtown, 2006. Used ... Out Of Stock
A synthy soul funk project from the team of Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo – a set that's just trippy enough – and it's possibly the best full length from either party, ever! You don't need us to tell you that DM has had a finger in a handful of the best fringe pop/leftfield hip hop projects of the mid 00s, and Cee-Lo has been threatening to deliver a strange soul classic for years – and he brings it with Gnarls Barkley. The sound runs from stuttering synth funk, to bubbling hip hop soul, to funky modern pop in a way that equals any other genre blending cats out there – and probably betters them! Tracks include "Go Go Gadget Gospel", "Crazy", "St. Elsewhere", "Gone Daddy Gone" (Yup, THAT "Gone Daddy Gone"), "Smiley Faces", "The Boogie Monster", "Feng Shui", "Just A Thought", "Transformer", "Who Cares?", "Online", "Necromancer", "Storm Coming" and "The Last Time". ✨✧ MadlibRock Konducta (2CD set) ... CD
Madlib Invazion, 2014. Used 2CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A really great chapter in the career of Madlib, and one that shows the really diverse musical inspirations that have informed his contributions to hip hop – served up here in a set of instrumentals based on samples from rare rock tracks from a hip variety of sources! For the project, Madlib dug deep into the worlds of psych, prog, and other scenes from years back – shuffled, restacked, and presented with that denseness that makes Madlib's production so great – and which likely also hides some of the sources for the music as well! The CD version compiles every track from the Part 1 and Part 2 vinyl releases, and more – no tracklist, but who cares – it's all about the experience. Madlib in mix master mode, blending diverse, seemingly disparate material into a distinctive whole – to put it succinctly, it's Madlib at his best! 48 tracks on 2CDs! CD
(Includes obi, but front panel has been trimmed slightly.)
