✨✧ ExileBaker's Dozen ... LP
Fat Beats, 2018. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Off-kilter, creative, and always headnodding beats from Exile – one of the most frequently impressive and underrated producers of the past decade and more – and a perfectly apt producer for an entry in the Fat Beats Baker's Dozen series! Exile is is a master of mixing solid soulful bits with stranger, more erratic sounds into a compelling whole that's wholy his own. Excellent stuff – one of the best efforts in the series! Includes "Eggsyle", "Do You Know?", "Bravery", "I Say It's True", "Bopwiddit'", "Do Not Touch", "Heaven's Gates", "Love To The World", "First Thing's Second" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

Masta Ace & Marco PoloBreukelen Story Instrumentals (grey vinyl pressing) (2020 Black Friday Release) ... LP
Fat Beats, 2018. New Copy 2LP ... $16.99 24.99
A rock solid collaboration between classic boombap influenced veteran producer Marco Polo and legendary rhymer Masta Ace – a thoroughly headnodding full length ode to the borough of Brooklyn! As you'd guess, this instrumentals version leaves off the contributions from the Masta, and lets us focus on Polos beats and production – on titles that include "Get Shot", "Still Love Her", "Man Law", "You & I", "American Me", "The Fight Song", "Corporal Punishment", "Wanna Be", and "Sunken Place". Roc MarcianoMarcberg (2LP picture disc) ... LP
Fat Beats, 2010. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... $30.99 31.99
The solo debut of Roc Marciano, and a record that more than shows the MC can stand on his own – serving up edgy rhymes over beats that show a strong NYC tradition – often spare and lean in construction, but with compelling core elements that continue that tradition started by Wu-Tang so many years ago! The whole thing almost feels more 90s than you'd guess from its date of release – and we mean that as a complement – as Roc steps out amidst tracks that include "It's A Crime", "Whateva Whateva", "Raw Deal", "We Do It", "Snow", "Ridin Around", "Panic", "Thug's Prayer", "Marcberg", "Hide My Tears", and "Jungle Fever". LP, Vinyl record album
(10th Anniversary edition – done as a very cool double pic disc pressing!)

✨✧ Roc MarcianoMt Marci ... CD
Fat Beats, 2021. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Roc Marciano's holding a paint-splattered gun on the cover – and it's clear that the weapon's just there for show, as the laidback image of Roc in the driver's seat is the real representation of the sound within! Marciano has a way of delivering a lyric that sounds incredibly casual, yet also tense and urgent at the same time – a quality that's supported here by the production, which is very lean, handled by Roc himself – often with just a key element to resonate alongside his words – maybe a tenor bite here, a female vocal sample there – really just a bit of coloring alongside the main event – on tracks that include "Butterfly Effect", "Pimps Don't Wear Rabbits", "Covid Cough", "Downtown 81", "Garbage Pail Kids", "Trenchcoat Wars", and "Wicked Days". ✨✧ Th1rt3en (Pharoahe Monch)Magnificent Day For An Exorcism ... LP
Fat Beats, 2021. New Copy Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
An album with a dark sort of cover, and a slightly tricky name to write down – both of which let you know that you're in for something different than usual from Pharoahe Monch! The set's heavy on guitar lines – played with plenty of ferocity and fuzz by Marcus Machado – who gives the record a quality that takes us back to some of the hip hop/metal crossover projects from years back – but with a quality that definitely puts the hip hop first, and which seems to push Pharoahe's rhymes even more with the use of the guitar. Titles include "The Magician", "666", "Fight", "Scarecrow", "The Exorcist", "Kill Kill Kill", and "Cult 45" – and the set features guest work from Cypress Hill and Smithsoneon. Your Old DroogDump YOD – Krutoy Edition ... LP
Fat Beats, 2021. New Copy Gatefold ... $31.99 32.99
A pretty fantastic chapter in the career of one of the most unique MCs to emerge in recent years – the Ukraine-born Your Old Droog, spinning out tracks here that echo the struggles of his youth as an immigrant in Brooklyn! The set's got a very freewheeling vocal style – the quick-spun lines that you'd hear in some sort of freestyle battle, but formed into songs that work wonderfully well as a whole – often with production that's so lean, you almost think you're listening to acapellas! The set features guest work from Phonte, Mack Hommy, Black Thought, and others – and titles include "New Religion", "Ukraine", "Odessa", "Uzbekistan", "Pravda", and "Kazakhstan". Diamond & The Psychotic NeuroticsStunts, Blunts, & Hip Hop ... LP
Mercury, 1992. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... $24.99 26.99
A 90s hip hop masterpiece from Diamond D – and like some of the rest of the best of the decade, a set that was slightly slept-on at the time, but which has gone to have massive impact over the decades – still sounding completely fresh in comparison to bigger hits of the time! Diamond D comes from the same DITC underground as Showbiz & AG, Big L, and Lord Finesse – and like those others, when he got his time in the spotlight, he really took off – with beats that had an influence on so much more to come – and a very collaborative spirit that opens the door for contributions from Fat Joe, Mark The 45 King, Brand Nubian, Lakim Shabazz, and some of his old partners in DITC. Titles include the classic "Best Kept Secret" – with its fantastic Kool & The Gang sample – plus "Sally Got A One Track Mind", "I'm Outta Here," "Check One Two", "Freestyle", "Stunts Blunts & Hip Hop", "Pass Dat S**t", "What You Seek", "Confused", "A Day In The Life", "Step To Me", and "Shut The *!*! ✨✧ Diamond DDiam Piece ... LP
Dymond Mine, 2014. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
The first album from legendary producer Diamond D in years – and in a way, he's going back to his roots, in that it's entirely self-produced, unlike the multi-producer collaborative Hugh Hefner Chronicles – and he's in fine form! Diamond D has the cache to get a far-reaching roster of heavyweight emcees on board, and he's crafty enough to tailor his beats to their distinctive skill sets – and those guests include Pharoahe Monch, Talib Kweli, Freddie Foxx, Pharcyde, Kurupt, Fat Joe, Kev Brown and many more. Titles include "Rap Life" with Pharoahe Monch, "Where's The Love" with Talib Kweli, Elzhi & Skyzoo, "It's Nothin" feat Fat Joe, Chi Ali & Freddie Foxxx, "Only Way 2 Go" with Pete Rock, "Hard Days" feat The Pharcyde, "Let The Music Talk" with Kev Brown, "Pain" with AG & Chino XL, "We Are The People Of The World" with Kurupt & Tha Alkaholiks, the bonus track "Superman" with DJ Scratch and more. Ample Soul, 2021. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Spare sounds from Fat Jon, but nicely full as well – with more than enough depth to live up to the "ample soul physician" part of his name! Most of the tracks have a relatively straightforward instrumental vibe – a few key elements, but used with a nice sense of juxtaposition – not really counterpoint, but creating a lot more than you might expect through the balancing of keyboards and beats, classic 70s riffs and rhythms, and some nice use of wider scope on the production. Titles include "Only Friend", "Insert Thoughts Here", "Story Time With The Deez", "Lick My Burden", "Life Goes Swing", "Gamma Ray", "Endure The Truth", and "Unknown's Flow". LP, Vinyl record album

FatlipLoneliest Punk ... LP
Delicious Vinyl/ORG, 2005. New Copy (reissue)... $23.99 24.98
The debut solo set from Fatlip – a record that showed the world that he maybe had even more to offer on his own than as a member of Pharcyde! The title might seem strange, but it's a play on the name Thelonious Monk – and that sort of wordcraft is key to the album's strength – as Fatlip works with self-deprecating wit and occasional heart-on-the-sleeve confessionals – set to production by J Swift, Edy Crahp, and Squeak E Clean – and some occasional beats by the 45 King! Tracks include "Fat Leezy", "First Heat", "The Bassline", "Today's Your Day" feat Chali 2na, "Joe's Turkey", "I Got Sh*t", "Writer's Block", "MIA", "The Story Of Us", "All On A Fly", "Freaky Pumps" feat Shock G & Humpty Hump, and "Dreams". Jazz LiberatorzClin D'Oeil ... CD
Kif/P-Vine (Japan), 2007. New Copy ... $22.99
One of the hippest French albums we've heard in years – a laidback blend of hip hop and jazz that really lives up to the cover's homage to the legendary Black Jazz label! The Jazz Liberatorz have a great way with a groove – a style that's openly flowing and instrumentally jazzy – a bit like the vibe we first came to love in Tribe Called Quest, but almost even better given that much of the instrumentation is played live! Most tracks have warm keyboards rolling along with the beats – and the rhythms are often gently acoustic in nature, with a depth of soul that sets these guys apart from most of their contemporaries. Guests on the record include J Sands, Lizz Fields, Sadat X, Apani B Fly, Fat Lip, and T Love – and titles include "Indonesia", "The Process", "Genius At Work", "I Am Hip Hop", "Ease My Mind", "Clin D'Oeil", "The Return", and "Speak The Language". ✨✧ Handsome Boy Modeling SchoolWhite People (clean version) ... CD
Atlantic, 2004. Used ... Out Of Stock
Just when you thought Prince Paul and Cat Power would never make a record together PRESTO – it's the new Handsome Boy album! HBMS takes a bit more of a chillout tack with this long overdue second opus – with lots of laidback beats and samples, and a surprising amount of live instrumentation! The gleeful, sarcastic comedy of the stellar first album remains intact, with some genuinely amusing skits (including one with Jay Z appearing under the pseudonym Hines Buchanan), and the deep range of guest vocalists isn't as surprising as how strong their work is in the best tunes. It would have been pretty easy for Prince Paul and Automator to find a bunch of interesting names to flesh out their big pop culture frappe, but something else altogether to make trippy hip hop tracks featuring Cat Power and the Hieroglyphics make sense on the same record. A pretty solid set from the most adventurous pseudo duo in the game! Guests include Del The Funky Homosapien, De La Soul, RZA, Lord Finesse, AG, Rahzel, Jazzy Jay, Qbert, Mike Patton, Casual, Hieroglyphics, Grand Wizard Theodore, El-P, John Oates, Pharrell, Kid Koala, and George W. Bush (just kidding). Tracks include "If It Wasn't For You" with De La, "Are You Down With It" with Mike Patton, "The World's Gone Mad" with Del and others, "It's Like That" with Casual, "I've Been Thinking" with Cat Power, "Rock And Roll (Could Never Hip Hop Like This) Pt 2" featuring Lord Finesse, Qbert and others, First. . .And Then" featuring Dres from Black Ship, "A Day In The Life" featuring RZA, AZ and others and more, plus intro/outro by Father Guido Sarducci. Juju Rogers40 Acres N Sum Mula ... LP
Jakarta (Germany), 2019. Sealed ... $19.99
Juju Rogers cut a pretty unique path on his debut album, and this might be even stronger! He has a unique perspective to draw from – born and raised in Germany with an African American GI father and a German mother, his voice and perspective in contemporary hip hop is fresh and distinctive by nature – but the craft is universally relatable. The beats and bass thump, there's nice use of live instrumentation on several tracks, and Juju's charismatic and forthright rhymes and sung vocals are really strong. Includes "89", "Real S**t", "Black Thursday", "Follow Me", "Mula", "10 Yas", "Identity", "God" & "Babalyon". LP, Vinyl record album
