✨✧ Rage Against The MachineRage Against The Machine ... CD
Legacy/Epic, 1992. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The classic agit-rap-rock debut of Rage Against The Machine – with the most fiery political lyricism and imagery of any massively popular record of its time – and as great of a pairing of revolutionary rap and heavy guitars as there ever was! It's hard to imagine now, but there were very few straight up rap rock bands before Rage Against The Machine. Hard rock breaks were ample, of course, but straight up rap rock bands were pretty scarce, pre-Rage. Rage Against The Machine's pop culture revolution was as massive as the social and political revolution that their songs called for! Includes "Bombtrack", "Killing In The Name", "Take The Power Back", "Settle For Nothing", "Bullet In The Head", "Know Your Enemy", "Wake Up", "Fistful Of Steel", "Township Rebellion" and "Freedom". (Rock, Hip Hop) CD

Some of RZA's best production work from the end of the 90s/start of the 00s – and the soundtrack to Jim Jarmusch's underrated samurai/crime flick Ghost Dog! The album features mostly Wu or Wu produced tracks, and lots of nice spoken dialogue bits of Forrest Whitaker reading from the book of samurai wisdom. "Cakes" by Kool G Rap, "Samurai Showdown" by the RZA and "East NY Stamp" by Jeru & Afu Ra were the cuts to us, also includes tracks by Masta Killa, Sunz of Man, Tekitha & North Star. CD

✨✧ DJ ShadowEndtroducing – Deluxe Edition ... CD
Island, 1996. Used 2CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
It seems like when this came out, critics and even DJs liked to drop the then new moniker "trip hop" whenever possible, and this pivotal album was held up as the watershed mark. A number of years down the line, Endtroducing holds up incredibly well, but as an instrumental hip hop LP, and even sort of an avant rock album – giving it a timeless feel that obliterates any trendy pigeonhole! Cinematic and epic in scope, this LP as much as anything else helped resurrect the career of David Axelrod (though some of us were hip to him all along). Josh Davis is clearly a fellow traveler in the coloristic approach he uses – and never forgets the funk! Disc one features the main album – with "Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt", "The Number Song", "Changeling", "What Does Your Soul Look Like (pts 1 & 4)" and "Midnight In A Perfect World". This reverent release features a great second disc of additional Shadow grooves from the era – including alternate versions, remixes, previously unreleased tunes, demo beats and a 12 1/2 minute live mix! Tracks include "Best Foot Forward" (alternate version), "Building Steam WIth A Grain Of Salt" (alternate take w/out overdubs), "Number Song" (Cut Chemist party mix), "Napalm Brain" (original demo beat), and "DJ Shadow Live In Oxford, England, Oct 30 1997". CD

✨✧ Madlib & OthersMadlib's Medicine Show No 3 – Beat Konducta In Africa ... CD
Madlib Invazion, 2010. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Raw crackling hip hop funk beatcraft at its deepest from mighty Madlib – working in his Beat Konducta style for this third entry in the epic Madlib's Medicine Show Series! Beat Konducta In Africa is a hazy hip hop instrumental set from 'Lib (lest you thought it might be a funky compilation of rare African material) with some additional mixing from J Rocc – based on rare African vinyl. The sound is pure Madlib/Beat Konducta heady hip hop funk – recognizable as being spun from and inspired by African material, and impeccably so, with that instantly identifiable, exploratory Madlib sonic stamp. He looks far beyond Afrobeat and funk sources, with some raw funk rock beats, psych, garage and more with some trippy vocal samples – and he's building up from blueprints records originally pressed all over Africa – Zambia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Botswana and Ivory Coast. But too much mention of the source material risks making this sound like a compilation or a mix set, when it's Madlib all the way! Titles include "Motherland", "Raw Introduction To Afreaka", "Warrior's Theme", "Street Hustler", "Afritonic" (Pts 1 & 2), "Tradition", "Blackfire", "Obtaive", "Mtima", "African Bounce", "Freedom Play", "Natural Sound Waves", "Unika (Outro)" and many more. 43 tracks on the CD version, which includes 6 bonus tracks. ✨✧ Madlib & OthersMadlib's Medicine Show Number 12 – Raw Medicine – Madlib Remixes ... CD
Madlib Invazion, 2011. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
The supposed conclusion in the madly epic Medicine Show series from Madlib – Number 12, and it's a hazy, funky, rawly brilliant batch of hip hop remixes from the mid 00s onward – 60+ minutes and 30+ unlisted tracks that's pretty much quintessential Madlib hip hop! We're not going to give away too many of the secrets here, it's best self-discovered – but you'll hear Madlib's unique style as applied to the rhymes of MCs who are famous, some stridently underground, some legendary, some still rising. Great stuff to conclude a surprisingly great series – we've long-loved the 'Lib, but we're really surprised out how masterfully he pulled off such a lengthy, hastily released series, while keeping the quality so high throughout!
