An obscure gospel group, but a great one too – thanks to plenty of secular soul inflections in their music, which gives these classic tracks a real crossover appeal! The group hail from San Diego, maybe a bit farther off the gospel map – and they've got this warm way of blending subtle spiritual messages with groovy modern soul styles – groovers on most of the cuts, which are taken from the two rare albums by the group – one from 1979, the other from 1983. The feel is somewhere in the territory of the Clark Sisters at their best – maybe slightly less clubby overall – and titles include "I Feel The Spirit", "No Need To Worry", "Third Day", "He'll Make Everything Alright", "The Time Is Right", and "Psalms 24". LP, Vinyl record album
A very cool collection of acapella gospel material – with work by The Golden Gate Jubille Quartet, Kings Of Harmony, Blue Jay Singers, Soul Stirrers, Georgia Peach, Marion Williams, Bessie Griffin, and Jeanette Harris & The Golden Harps! LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear, with lightly bent and wavy corners.)
Dang, if it sounded like this at our church, we'd go to mass every Sunday! The album's got a unique crossover appeal that has the Rev kicking things off with a very funky combo in the lead – singing and speaking a spiritual message that's set to some massively heavy backings – so much so you'll forget the religion in the message and just let loose and groove! The record then moves into a sermon, but then goes back to more funky tunes – shifting back and forth with a sound that's incredibly lively! The band's not named on the set, but they're excellent – as jazzily strong as they are funky – and tunes include "The Dope Song", "Rockgospeltime", "Rock Message", and "Share It". (Soul, Gospel)LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover has some light wear – vinyl is nice.)
