Aretha FranklinAmazing Grace – The Complete Recordings (180 gram pressing) (4LP set) ... LP
Atlantic/Rhino, 1972. New Copy 4LP ... $92.99 99.99
A legendary album – one that has Aretha Franklin returning to her roots in gospel music – but working with all the strength and power that Atlantic Records had to offer! From early years recording as a young voice alongside her father's congregation, Aretha has matured into a hell of a lead singer – and really knocks it out of the park here alongside the mighty James Cleveland, and the Southern California Community Choir! While it might have been nice to record the set back home in Detroit, the California setting for the material works perfectly to elevate Franklin to a special place in the heavens – tying together her heritage in beautiful ways, and making for another great stride forward in her career during the 70s. One of the best ideas ever for a soul music concept album – with titles that include "Mary Don't You Weep", "How I Got Over", "Precious Memories", "Wholy Holy", "Never Grow Old", "Amazing Grace", and Climbing Higher Mountains". This package really expands past the original album – and adds in all these other tracks recorded during the proceedings, which were done over the course of two different nights in November of 1972 – with a mighty set of long tracks that quadrupalizes the original double album! Marion WilliamsNew Message ... LP
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good ... $9.99
Way more than just a regular gospel album – as Marion Williams is working here in some pretty hip territory – with arrangements by William Fischer, and backing by a small group that includes Richard Tee, Eric Gale, Junior Mance, and Bernard Purdie. The sound is moody, soulful, and contemplative – almost a precursor to the first Roberta Flack album, although with more gospel overtones than jazz. Titles include "Will The Circle Be Unbroken", "I Pity The Poor Immigrant", "People Got To Be Free", "I Shall Be Released", and "The Great Speckled Bird". LP, Vinyl record album

Art Reynolds SingersTellin It Like It Is ... LP
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+ ... $14.99
Sublime work by one of the greatest crossover gospel groups of the 60s – the wonderful Art Reynolds Singers, one of the hippest things to ever hit Capitol Records! The album's based around spiritual tunes, but is recorded with a rolling groove that's got a lot of Atlantic soul in the mix – and which also really gets at the rhythmic delivery of the group, something that's always made the Art Reynolds Singers much more appealing to soul fans than other ensembles of the time. Titles include "How Did You Feel", "He's A Standby God", "Where Is Your Faith In God", "Jesus Is Just Alright", and "I Won't Be Back". LP, Vinyl record album
