✨✧ Akira Ishikawa & Count BuffalosAfrican Rock ... LP
Dan/Cinedelic (Italy), 1971. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Don't think "African rock", think spiritual jazz – as the set's a brilliant blend of the funky styles of Akira Ishikawa and his Count Buffalos combo with some deeper percussive elements that bring a whole new global sound to his music! Ishikawa was already a tremendous talent before this point in his career, but this set represents a handful of African-titled records that really had him hitting his stride – taking an older Japanese funky band mode and fitting it to some hipper elements for the 70s – including some sweet electric touches, used in all the right ways! This set may also be the most ambitious of these albums, too – as it's written like a larger suite of tracks – with titles that include "Love", "Hunting", "Animals", "Dawn", "Prayer", and "The Earth". ✨✧ Chisato Yamada/Takeshi TerauchiSuite Nihonkai ... LP
Teichiku/Cinedelic (Italy), 1981. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A totally cool little record from Japan – one that mixes old school acoustic instrumentation on shamisen with these larger arrangements that have a much more contemporary vibe – partly 70s funk, partly soundtrack in scope, and a very cool backdrop for the spare sound of the unique three-stringed instrument! Chisato Yamada plays with plenty of feeling here – often doing a heck of a lot with just a little – as the larger charts from Takeshi Terauchi swell and groove, almost as if the whole thing were some groovy film score from the time! All song titles are in Japanese – and the set features the long "Sea Of Japan" suite, plus a few shorter tracks too. (Japanese, Global Grooves) LP, Vinyl record album
