✨✧ VariousArt That Kills – HHCOMP01 ... LP
Art That Kills (France), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
An excellent batch of tracks from the old school – material that's heavy on stark beats and boogie basslines – of the sort that was being recorded in NYC in the shadow of Sugarhill! There's plenty of cuts here that would be right at home at a South Bronx street party – equally forged from funk and club as from samples and scratching – but definitely topped with early hip hop lyrics all the way through! The set's got lots of great cuts we haven't seen reissued – and titles include "Paranoia Rap" by Appliances, "New Fresh & Ill" by Chipsy, "Love's Calling (inst)" by Opus Ten, "The Pop" by Gary Davis, "Super Jake" by Gee Dee, "The Easton Assassin" by Sunburst Band, and "We Can't Be Held Back (radio mix)" by Brothers Supreme. Temposphere/Easy Tempo (Italy), 2000. New Copy 3LP ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic soundtrack remix madness! The work of some of the greatest Italian composers of the late 60s and early 70s is updated for the modern dancefloor – and this set may well be the best of Easy Tempo's "Experience" series! Tracks include Piero Umiliani's "L'Uomo E La Citta" remixed by Raphael Sebbag, Umiliani's "Lady Magnolia" remixed by Kid Loco, Stefano Torrossi's "Walking In The Dark" remixed by DJ Vadim, Umiliani's "Panoramica" remixed by Cinematic Orchestra, Lesiman's "Messaggio" remixed by Gak Sato, Piero Piccioni's "Colpo Rovente" remixed by Benja & Fatalis, and lots lots more! ✨✧ VariousSpace Funk 2 – Afro Futurist Electro Funk In Space 1976 to 1984 (with bonus download) ... LP
Soul Jazz (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Sun Ra, Parliament, and other soul and jazz acts famously took us into space back in the day – and in the wake of their journeys, countless other artists elected to take the trip too – soaring to the cosmos on a blend of beats, basslines, keyboards, and vocals – all elements that are given an especially electro-tuned vibe in this great second volume of the series! The space age journeys are maybe more akin to the world of Newcleus than Earth Wind & Fire – lots of processing on the vocals, sweet riffing on the keyboards, and basslines that are tightly tied to the rhythms of the grooves – served up here in a way that references sounds of the street, west coast funk, and even earlier hip hop – all brought together in a very well-chosen array of tracks! As always with Soul Jazz, the presentation is as great as the music within – a set list that includes "More Ounce Rap" by Bobby Deemo, "Master Groove (inst)" by Chance, "Shine Your Light" by The Grainers, "Get Right" by Mid City Crew, "Summer Times" by Frank James & Shadow, "Year 2001 Boogie" by Rich Cason & The Galactic Orchestra, "Smurf Trek" by Chapter Three, "Let's Ride" by Junei, "Breakdance" by Command Performance, and "Computer Pop" by Maggotron. LP, Vinyl record album
