A nice little single – despite the name! The a-side is a sleepy blues number, but the flip – "Disco Blues" – is a great groover. The cut begins with a bouncy bass and choppy guitar, all rolling together in a nice funky way while Willie sings and plays harmonica in a bluesy style. The gimmick shouldn't work, but the cut's pretty compelling overall – and that bass is monster dirty! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Never-issued late work from the mighty Sun Ra – a single that features an extended solo piano piece on "Hello Mr Schimmel" – a track that's a really great reminder of how much we love Ra in this format! For anyone who's ever thought of Ra as a trickster, or as an avant musician with no understanding of jazz – we present this wonderful track – a fantastic bit of piano work that links the musician back to the generations of Art Tatum and Erroll Garner, while also demonstrating the kind of personal ideas that always made his own recordings so great. The performance was done for the UK's Jazz FM radio in 1990 – and the flipside features a 12 minute interview with the show's host, Jez Nelson. (Jazz, Funky 45's)7-inch, Vinyl record
One of James Brown's greatest cuts ever – a stone funky monster that never gets old! The tune's got a snapping slow funk beat that's simply incredible, and it builds and builds with a sound that has an intensity that can't be beat! Plus, this 2-part single is actually pretty tough to find – a lot rarer than the album, with a strange spoken announcer over a few parts! 7-inch, Vinyl record
A monster – and one of the most anthemic cuts that James ever cut! Begins with a monster drumbeat, kicks into a stone groove with loads of guitar, horn, and funky bass – while James shouts the whole thing through without faltering! The track became the motto of a generation – and it's a heck of a lot funkier than "We Shall Overcome"! 7-inch, Vinyl record
