One of the coolest projects ever from electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani – sounds done for the groundbreaking Xenon pinball machine – released in 1980, and filled with unusual sounds and tones created by Ciani! One of these was her very cool "voice box" – which gave the pinball machine a female identity – heard here, mixed with all sorts of Synclavier and other sounds from the always-great Ciani! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Nice lost one! "Track Down" has a good choppy funk groove, with nice downbeats, weird spacey electronics, and an off-kilter horn finish. "Let's Put It Together" has more of an uptempo groove, with lots of choppy wah wah guitars – and a strong dancefloor groove! Both nice! 7-inch, Vinyl record
One of the harder to find singles by the JBs, and a tasty two-fer of funky tracks from their Breakin Bread album! Both tracks are great, and match the JBs funky jazz sound with some cool electronics bubbling under the mix! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Brilliant! "Summer Madness" is one of those tunes that you could never hope to top – spare, moody, with incredible electronics, and a mad slow funk groove that's never sounded anything less than fresh in all its years! "Spirit Of The Boogie" is a tasty cut that virtually defines the boogie groove in funk – bass slapping its way through a midtempo pace, stepping high and large as the whole thing grooves along! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Rare self-made synth grooves from TRASE – which stands for Tape Recorder And Synthesiser Ensemble – 2 versions of this obscure, should-be electro rock classic from the early 80s! The A-Side is the instrumental version from '83 – a lean, compelling mix of moody, but accessible synth that falls somewhere between Gary Numan (sans vocal) and a spacey synth soundtrack vibe. The earlier LP version on the flip has a rawer, more primitive sound and a bit of a not-so-caustic post punk/No Wave vibe – this one with vocals by Andy Popplewell – who was 17-years-old at the time and the lone member of TRASE! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Moogy magic from the legendary Piero Umiliani – a wicked track that begins with lots of cool electronics, stripped down into an early drum machine rhythm – and delivered with more space energy than you'd expect from the "blues" in the title! "Gadget" is a cool quirky bit of electronics – almost like a robot creating dance music with a moog and an acoustic bass – and "Automa" has a cold feel that's somewhere between early Sheffield electronica and the sound of the German new wave! 7-inch, Vinyl record
