Two 70s funky jazz classics – nicely remade and back to back! "Sun Goddess" has a very cool take on the riffing intro used in the Ramsey Lewis original – followed by keyboards that are a lot moogier overall, and which make for a soulful spacey solo over the beats! "Mister Magic" gets some warmer keyboards but dubbier production – all very different than the Grover Washington hit, while retaining all its charm! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Great 70s harmonies from Classic Example – soaring here over a tune that has so much warmth and charm, it's hard to believe it's about a breakup! The track has these horns that cascade along with the vocals – and this lilting vibe that's completely compelling right away! "I Found Me A Girl" is slower and bluer – perfect sweet soul material, at a level that lets the group hit a more heartbreaking mode! 7-inch, Vinyl record
A killer Mirwood bit of northern soul – solo work from Bobby Garrett, usually heard in a duo but plenty great here on his own – bringing this raspy charm that keeps the tune nicely down to earth, even when the arrangements and backing vocals really soar! Those elements get plenty of play on the flipside – an all instrumental romp that follows the groove of the main track! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Great early work from Laura Lee – recorded in Muscle Shoals before her later work with Hot Wax! "Wanted" is a great little groover – a light bit of funk in the rhythm, and a jumping groove that pushes Laura's vocals over the top, singing a very catchy lyric in the "want ad" mode! "Up Tight Good Man" is her great version of the Penn/Oldham southern soul classic – done in a slowly burning style that brings out all the charm of the tune! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Connie Stevens is best known for pop work early in the 60s – but here, she sounds wonderfully soulful – grooving strongly over the gliding charms of the cool back/forth rhythms of "Tic Toc"! The tune's got strings over a romping groove – one that's maybe more late 60s mod than you'd guess from the date – and which has Connie sounding very different than usual. "Keep Going Strong" is soulful too, but in a slower paced mode – as the tune is a very early reading of the Thom Bell classic "Betcha By Golly Wow"! 7-inch, Vinyl record
